[BETA/WIPz] Morrowind Overhaul - Sounds & Graphics

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 12:07 pm

Its working nicely fully maxed out with 8x AA on a GTX 460 and a 4 Ghz I7 920. I actually have two 460s in SLI, but Morrowind is too old a game and it slows down to 15-20 fps with SLI enabled, but runs at 25-50 fps with SLI turned off (fully modded ofc). I just made a seperate profile for it with the SLI option set to single GPU so I dont need to keep on changing the settings for other games.

One problem I still have is that MGEgui 3.8.2 wont open, and I have to use 3.8.0 which doesnt have the SM 3.0 options for the water.

So try to delete mgegui.exe and d3d8.dll, and re-copy them.
You can find them in the Installer_Data.7z archive.

Or maybe:
If you installed everything then you probably need to run MorrowindLauncher.exe as administrator, set the screen resolution from the options and then run MGEgui.exe as administrator.
In order to run a program as administrator you need to right-click on the executable and choose Run as administrator.

Thanks for your reviews!
I'm glad that you liked it :)

At this point, mods like this are what the community really needs. The number of people who keep up with mods intensely and know the intricacies of installing and making them compatible on their own are thinning out. I've done my own take on this for personal use and backed up my data files folder to DVD so I never have to mess with it again, and my friends love it. They enjoy my Morrowind, but either cannot or will not spend literally DAYS hammering out all the incompatibilities and errors - and who can blame them?

I think city expansions are not Graphics mods.
So they will fit better in a second pack, for the Atmosphere :)
Yes, we planned something like that ^^

Exactly what I think!

One problem with city expansion mods and the graphics compilation is the grass: Any city expansion that alters the terrain can cause the placed grass to float.

Yeah this is another problem.
In fact I think that in the future I will modify the grass mods included in MGSO to make them compatibles with an (ipotetic) second Atmospheric pack :)

that's a fact that we're aware of :D but our righteous and majestic King pix will, in case of deciding to add those mods on a future release, work on a fixed glass placement :liplick:

edit: he answered before i could send the reply hihi :)

On the graphics mod side of things, I've noticed that normal clothes arent looking as nice as they were with the 2011 compilation. I have reinstalled better clothes several times and they all still look like a really low res and blurry textures.

Also, I would still recommend adding the MCA mod to this compilation because of how much it improves the faces and hair in the game. Everything is fine for me apart from the clothes (Im trying to play an unarmored High Elf Atronach mage), and not being able to select SM 3.0 (cant get HDR or more water effects working).

Can you do some screens?

And for MCA: No.
MCA doesn't improve Morrowind heads, it adds new NPCs. Old NPCs will remain the same.
It isn't a graphics mod so I will not include it.

Have you tried this?

The problem with city expansion mods is that they tend to be opinion-based. I think any atmosphere/gameplay patch should try to stick close to lore and some of these mods tend to be very lore-breaking. I've tried both Balmora Expanded and Suran Extended (can't remember the correct name of the Suran one) I know both are/have been popular but I didn't like either because they just didn't feel like they fit in with the game world. Also tried the old Seyda Neen Extended mod and didn't like it either for similar reasons. And Balmora had some annoying additions IMO and also can be a very big FPS hit.

If/when you start to think about the next pack of this mod I would recommend checking out the New Cities project (I believe there's currently New Seyda Neen, New Gnisis and New Caldera).

Yes New Cities are included in my beta-modlist of the second pack :)
I will test them soon

It adds lots of new hairstyles that you can use on your character though. I spent ages trying to figure out how to get that hair back.

Heres a clothes picture, I dont know if this is how they are meant to be, but they looks a lot sharper and better before with morrowind 2011 than they do here:

http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/5261/morrowind20110111132938.png

I also just tried turning the better clothes mods off, and it looks exactly the same.

Actually, it doesnt, I accidentally left one of the better clothes ESMs on. It just seems to be missing some sharpness on the clothes that I had before :(

By the way, that hair is part of the MCA mod along with a lot of other styles.

The new airstiles I think that they are from Westly's master headpack. In the installation guide you can find the link.
Maybe I forgot Darknut's Textures? Hmmm... possible... maybe I forgot to insert them in this beta version.
Try this: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=7401
How are they now?
Thanks.

Yes, those textures seem to be the right ones, I can tell from the skirt on the left picture here which is the same design as the robe you get from the levitating mage:

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/fms/Image.php?id=88444

I'll install it and check now.

The Westleys pack doesnt have the hairstyles from the MCA pack, it only has the faces. I've tried enabling / disabling each mod to check.

When I turn MCA off, my head dissapears.

Sorry I forgot to re-include Dn's BC textures in this Beta, thanks for reporting it.
Also no, I will not include MCA, maybe I will put a link or something like that :)

This is yet another are where you guys succeed where the Morrowind 2011 guy failed, you're actually testing it with the community before you go public with it. There were so many wierd thigns going on with that mod that even though it included most of the graphics mods I use it was poorly compiled and there were problems with it.

Do you guys plan on setting up a website for this? I think it would be a good idea if you guys can find the time to do it, you could post various screenshots of the finished package, have a news section, link to the forum thread. I would also recommend if somebody has the time to make one or two gameplay videos showing off the finished product (this would of course wait until the mod is ready for primetime).

Also, might I recommend changing the name of the project to something a little more catchy, something like Morrowind Remastered Part 1: Sounds and Graphics?

We already have one, but it is in Italian only.
We are planning an English section these days :D

We also are making a video so far, it will come up soon, with the final release :D
Regarding the name: I'll think about that :)

Thanks.

The only problem I had was with the exeOptimizer, whenever I tried to use this damn thing after some time I just got an error saying that "acces to the fpu.exe is refused" or something like that. I heard that it helps with FPS a little, I really could use some since I'm getting pretty low 17-25 outside. I just cant force myself to turn off any shaders beside SSAO ^_^.

If I may quote myself, can someone look at my problem ^_^?

Try to delete exeopt.exe, then take it from Installer_Data.7z.
Put it in another folder (NOT MW directory). Take Morrowind.exe and put it in the same folder as exeopt.exe.
Run exeopt as administrator (if you own 7/vista) and try to patch Morrowind.exe

However it works. The cities just need something more. Cities have always been lacking in the Elder Scrolls series.
