[BETA/WIPz] Morrowind Overhaul - Sounds & Graphics

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 7:24 am

KingPix and the Morrowind Overhaul Team are proud to present the first package of the project “Morrowind Overhaul”! It’s an Italian project started 2 years ago.
The final release will be uploaded only if there is the approval of the modding community.

FIRST THINGS FIRST:
The mods included in this package were NOT created by KingPix. The credits list that you can find here includes every single modder who made this possible! I also want to thank the morrowind modding community for the huge work they did in those past 8 (almost 9!) years. I have personally contacted mod authors and received approval to use their mods in this package. I was unable to contact some mod authors, and have done my best to abide by their wishes as specified in their mod's readmes.

"Morrowind Sounds and Graphics Overhaul" is the first pack. It contains mods that will alter and enhance the visual graphics and the sounds of the game.

The aim of this project is to make more people around the world appreciate this huge game by giving them a simple installation file which includes everything they will need to play Morrowind with gorgeous graphics and sounds. I’ve tried to keep Morrowind’s “feeling”; therefore, the mods/meshes/textures I chose are the ones that I think are most faithful to the original colours and environment.

A benefit of this compilations is that players don’t need to go through the “download every single mod out there and try it” phase of customizing Morrowind. The pack is intended for people who would prefer not to hand-pick mods out of the thousands of mods available. Modding Morrowind can be overwhelming for some people, and they might want to start out with a compilation before they feel comfortable picking and choosing mods on their own.

UPDATES:
Please note that this pack will be often updated with new versions of the mod included, bugfixes, and so on. These updates will be available as patches. After 3 or 4 patches, I will create a new version of this compilation package.

CONTACT:
Please leave feedback: I want to hear your comments, suggestions, advice, and criticism.
By sending me an e-mail (dedicated e-mail adress): morrowindoverhaul@gmail.com
By sending me a Personal Message on gamesas Forums under my nickname “KINGPIX”
Or by posting on this thread!

MUCH MORE IMPORTANTLY:
Please tell me as soon as possible if there are issues like “oh no, you didn’t credited [modder_name’s_here]!” or “no, you can’t include my mod in this package.” If you do not want your content in this package, let me know, and I will remove it right away.

Oh, and just to be correct, here's the Morrowind Overhaul Team behind this project:

Kingpix - Project Leader and pack building/ tweaking
Fafolo - Install Guide (wonderful)
Yoae (and his girlfrend XD) & Darkvalca - Guide translation and general help
Nick93 - Screens & videos
Tumore - Betatesting
no1 - Morrowind Overhaul Mascotte
Julianross - So much help with mods and modlist
Andracos, Tumore & Chantalion - Plugin translation (English -> Italian)

I'm glad you've been apparently so diligent on permissions. :)
You even had to try twice before I remembered to reply to your request. ;)

I'm glad you've been apparently so diligent on permissions. :)

 Me, too!

I don't tend to use mod-packages - I like to hand-pick my mods. But, I remember when I first started modding my game, and I was like "OMG, there are 10 bazillion thousand mods to choose from, where do I start!?!" And this was before ES Search, too. :bonk: It's nice to have some packs up that new players and players new to modding can use on their game (especially to give it a bit of a face-lift) - and rest easy knowing that the pack has the general approval of the community.

I know, personally, I'll be giving a good look at the shader's on KINGPIX's list. That's a whole new modding area for me, and I like to start out with recommendations before I start experimenting.

When I saw the thread title, I first thought, oh no...

Then I read the post. This is exactly how it should be done. A compilation project with full support from the community, and an accurate list of credits. And no bugs. A compilation might not be what many people here are looking for, but it's good for all those people disappointed with the (taking down of the) Morrowind 2011 compilation.

I think it would be better if it would leave out things like the Graphics Extender, or the Morrowind Code Patch. There are too many MGE versions to just drop 1 into the compilation, unless you take the last stable one but that doesn't have the most features, and it requires certain software to be up to date that wouldnt be in the compilation. Better to ensure that people have the latest MGE info available when they get it, it's not exactly a simple program. And the MCP is too frequently updated to be useful in a compilation, unless you want to keep on updating it. You could just link to them instead.

Same for the mods that you didn't get permission for, like Connary's. Just a link. That one is just one big download anyway, not much trouble. It's the best solution. If I understand it right this was your plan for the ones you couldn't include?

It would take a little more effort to install than the Morrowind 2011 compilation, but much less than installing everything individually. And the results are better. :)

Slof is active on Nexus, you should be able to contact her there if you still can't contact her (I take it that's what you mean with contact issues). Alternatively there's Liztail who you could ask about his http://www.liztail.com/view_project.php?prj_id=2§ion=info&media=65 mod.

You have my support! :goodjob:

I am pleased to see that some mods of mine have been choosen to be included in this Overhaul. :foodndrink:
Let me know if there is any incompatibility and I'll make a compatible version.

By the way, I noticed that at the bottom of the list, there are some creature mods suggested....

I made some http://arcimaestroantares.webs.com/antarescreatures.htm too... just in case... :whistling:

I was afraid this would be another mod compilation that would be shot down by the community but am pleasantly surprised. After installing the Morrowind 2011 and running into all sorts of problems that the author somehow missed I went to Povuholu's (did I spell that right?) list and set up a Morrowind install based on that and my own preferences...of course right after I do that this is announced. Perhaps I'll check it out next time I have to set up a Morrowind install though. Congrats on this!

Oh, absolutely!
The link has been added!
Thanks! :D

Also thank you all for your support!

I will upload a "test version" only for test purposes soon, before releasing the final version.

As you can see, this project is trying to keep the original Morrowind's Feeling!

We are also working on a video, and a veeeery (very :D) detailed guide (that includes MGE guide, Code Patch Guide, Morrowind Install guide, and so on)!

Hope you like those!

Very nice. I don't recognize all the trees and grass, are those from modders from other forums?

This is exactly what I have been looking for from the start. You are doing a spendid job in giving credit where credit is due to the modders. I hope this gets released at some point in future.

I'd love to see more detailed shots of Seyda Neen, Balmora, Ald-ruhn, Sadrith Mora, and Vivec, so I have some idea of the textures everywhere.
That said, the wilderness looks damned good.

Very nice. I don't recognize all the trees and grass, are those from modders from other forums?

So:
1), 2) (No trees) :P
3) Vurt Ashtrees & Vurt's Ascadian Isles mods
4) Vurt's Grazelands
5) Vurt's Ashtrees
6) Vurt's Grazelands
7) Vurt's Grazelands

Also note, that I modified these mods:
- Vurt's Ascadian Isles
I deleted the new fungi-parasols to keep them vannilla-style. Then I deleted the new flora like Chomberry and so on for the same reason. I also replaced the big firs (those on the right in http://pnmedia.gamespy.com/planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/fms/images/mods/8190/1279334882_fullres.jpg image , with other smaller and animated trees. Every tree is still from Vurt. I just tweaked it a little to catch Morrowind's original feeling.

- Vurt's Leafy West Gash
I replaced big (enormous) trees (the first ones in http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/fms/Image.php?id=100192) with smaller trees and I changed the colours of the red, white and pink trees.

These changes I made are for keeping Morrowind like it was intended to be.

I'd love to see more detailed shots of Seyda Neen, Balmora, Ald-ruhn, Sadrith Mora, and Vivec, so I have some idea of the textures everywhere.
That said, the wilderness looks damned good.

Yes, screens are coming! :D

I don't recognize all the grass?

Oh I forgot the grass :D
Grass in Ascadian Isles is from Vality (the classic grass). I think it fits very very well with Morrowind's colours.
The grass in Grazelands is a texture from Vurt (Grass retexture mod), applied to Vality's grass.
Vurt's Groundcover is also included and optional for those who prefer a "more vivid" grass :)

I really don't hope anybody have any issues with this...
It's like the first time in 6 years I have wanted to go back to playing Morrowind, my previously favorite game

EDIT: How is the fps hit btw? I have an Phenom X3 440, 4GB Ram and an GTX 460 768mb card. Do you think I will be able to run it on max everything with 1680x1050?
