[RELz] Morrowind Overhaul - Sounds & Graphics

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 2:10 pm

One, this mod is incredible. The instructions are so well done and thorough to boot!

Two, when is 1.2 coming out? Will you be using MGE XE in any version or give us the option to use it?

Three, please don't only use MCA <_< Starfire's NPC additions is my preference

I feel positive both will be options based on the way the Overhaul was done when you consider comparable things (Trees).

And I use both of'em honestly....the more NPCs in town, the better.

Most people's negative opinions of MCA seem based on the 5.1/5.2 version which had overkill on the bandits in town, which was significantly reduced in the 6.0/6.1 version, especially when considering starting level (they only come after you at level 4 now)

The install seems to work all the way up until I have to run MGEgui, I run as an admin, but all it says is that it has failed to respond. How can I fix this? I can't play the game until I run MGEgui.

- Be sure to have ALL the required components, especially the LASTEST DirectX 9.0c linked in the guide
- Run Morrowind Launcher as administrator, click Options and change the resolution
- Run MGEgui as administrator

Mortle - Go back to the first page in this thread and you can see the full install instructions (google doc) and then read thru it. The mod package is fully compatible with Steam versions but you will have to take a few small extra steps.

Kingpix - Got 1.1 up and working but have a few questions for ya:

1 - Is MCA compatible with MGSO 1.1 ?
2 - What is the best mod you recommend to add Oblivion like combat overhaul to Morrowind ? I feel Oblivion is inferior to Morrowind in most aspects except the better combat/melee system.
3 - Is there a more modern version of Abigails Pet Shop that is compatible with MGSO out ?

Also a few recommendations for your next big project:

1 - BTB's game improvements
2 - Abots Water life
3 - MCA (if possible)
4 - Some type of economy adjustor
5 - Some type of combat adjustor mod that does not make melee combat feel like a tree chopping contest :)

Great work though (takes hat off in Kingpix Team's direction) - enjoying 1.1 so far. - Jay

1.1) Yes
1.2) There are a lot of possibilities, but for Oblivion-like combat you can try something like http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8355.
1.2) No, you have to delete some trees to make it compatible I guess.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.1,2.2,2.3,2.4,2.5) Thanks for the suggestions, all those plugin were plannet to be included. Only thing is that I'll probably include Starfires mod and not MCA.

I'm waiting for the MGE XE final version to be included.

I really don't know right now.
At the moment I'm asking for permissions.

CAUTION:
For some reasons the patch on fileplanet wasn't the correct version. Please re-download it now from the 4shared link. Thanks for the attention.

I downloaded and patched to 1.1 on March 13th. I didn't notice any problems or bug so far but I will download again and re-apply the patch. Thank you for the warning :goodjob:

This looks amazing, I've been away from the Morrowind community for a long time and its nice to see how much work has been done to make the graphics up to date.

Hey KingPix,

Any chance you could upload the 1.1 patch file to another host? Me and it seems quite a few others are having trouble downloading from 4share. The site doesn't like letting you redownload, goes into a constant timer loop.

This mod is great except the game seems to be a bit unstable. It always freeze on exit(don't care that much) and during testing I have had a 3 or 4 crashes(all freezes I think, then screen goes black). I am also using the official plug ins and for 1 of the crashes had Connarys textures(beast and everything else) installed.

Phenom X2 3.0
4870 1GB, I think I might have gotten an error message that the other dude got with the 4870.

Oh and one more question, Did Connary not give you permission to use his stuff? Its much truer to the vanilla look of the game than some of the stuff in the pack, like Balmora looks a lot different, but with Connarys pack it looks like an enhanced(very enhanced) version of vanilla.

As you say, Connary's is just insane. Used Visual Pack until some weeks ago. Then I installed Connary's West Gash/Bittercoast ( found his grazeland already earlier). In Balmora you hardly see any tiling with that ground texture and West Gash just looks naturally with his stone textures & Vurt's trees (somehow it reminds me of autumn now). But well...I don't think Connary wants to see his textures included in this overhaul.

Edit: King, what would you recommend or what is out there for darker nights? I could not even tell it was night at one point I thought it was just cloudy! Its as bad as FNV! I use %50 dakernights for NV, so somthing along that line would be good for me, I don't like anything too dark.

Everything seemed to install correctly until I got to the point where I had to load up shaders and create distant land on MGE. Apparently, there are some files that are missing. The whole distantland folder and the active.sav file are nowhere to be found. Should I just re-download the whole thing, or can I get these files somewhere?

That too bad, I find it sad when a modder acts like some of the big companies refusing permission to use there mod(like when SquareEnix shuts down fan made game remakes, no you can't use that, because I say so!). Beth has let modder use there assents as they see fit but other modders won't let other modders?

At least its really easy to Use Connary stuff, 2 BSA(beasts and everything else) in your data folder, use the BSA tool included in MW overhaul and your done, so easy and such a huge improvement. For those who want the best quality and look most similar to vanilla you can't go wrong with Connary.

Do you use "The Lighting Mod". In the readme it is recommended to half the values in the ini (Weather) for night settings iirc. Might be helpful, I don't use it myself.

I only use what came with MW overhaul and the official plug in. I am not playing MW now nor player to till I get bored with FNV. Do you use any darker night mods?

What about my question regarding the crashes? Do you have any help to offer? (I have edited my post as per your wishes).

Oh, sorry, didn't see that post.
Anyway, I don't know the exact reason of your crashes, I myself used to have a 4870 and had no problems at all.
Be sure to disable all the forced graphics options from the ATi Catalyst control panel, if you are using a 64 bit OS use the 4GB Patch that comes with the Overhaul.
And try to save soon. Saving can reduce crashes (at least for me did).
You could also try to use the rev 178 of MGE instead of the 186.

I don't remember if you mentioned checking out out or not, but there's two magic sound effect mods you might want to look at:

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7574

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=1990

My personal favorite is Excellent Magic Sounds.
