[RELz] Morrowind Overhaul - Sounds & Graphics

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 12:08 pm

Waiting on v2.0 ...

Me too! After seeing on youtube what the Overhaul does for this game, I can't wait to get it installed again and start exploring again! Yesterday I downloaded all the other mods I'm going to use -- this is the last (and probably most important) one that I need. But I'm holding off until 2.0 comes out, since I understand from Kingpix's earlier posts that it is right around the corner, and it doesn't seem like there will be a clean upgrade path from 1.3. Best to wait, although hopefully not for too much longer :) Anyway, thanks in advance Kingpix for putting this together, and thanks to all the modders whose work is going into this magnificent compilation!

Hi everyone,

I just downloaded 3 texture mods & the better bodies 2.2 mod along with the MGE.

I understand that the MOSG 2.0 mod is to come out soon.

Question please: Does MGE & MOSG go together or not? If not, Does MOSG allow fog (original Morrowind) & does it leave the creature base alone, as in
not adding new creatures and does it leave Morrowind as presented in the GOTY edition?

Thank you kindly!

P.S. I'm not playing Morrowind until I understand MOSG and if it does the above. I like the original Morrowind concept and don't want a different world.

Update:
I guess MOSG IS compatible with MGE! Sorry & please correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks...

MOSG includes MGE, man. It leaves Morrowind pretty close to what's in the GOTY edition. It's all graphics and sound improvements, bug fixes, and a few minor additions.

Hi guys,

Error at the first hurdle! I was following the installation video tutorial and got to 'Step 8'. Unfortunately I just get an error message saying 'unable to locate TES Morrowind installation' or something along those lines. Any idea why this is happening? Is it going to prevent the mod from working?

Thanks.

If using windows Vista , windows 7 and/or the steam version of Morrowind then installation procedures are slightly different than for the standard cd version with windows XP which sounds like that may be the problem you have. Steam installs Morrowind in a different directory than the CD version , you just need to install the mod into the right location and it will work. If you need more help , then let us know what version of windows steam or CD and someone will be able to advise you further.

Thanks for the help! Managed to get everything installed including all the patches, however, when I click new game, the intro movie doesn't skip even though I selected 'skip movie' in MGE and all I get is a black screen when the game starts. I can hear Jiub speaking but I can't see anything. The settings I've used are as advised in the installation video on YouTube.

And yes I'm on Windows 7 and Morrowind was downloaded from Steam.

If you only followed the video-guide and didn't read the info posted there telling you to read section 3.4 of the written readme, you missed some stuff that is specific for Steam users,

Thanks Peste. Is it easy to just uninstall and start again?

I don't think you'll need to reinstall anything, just make the change in Steam settings that is mentioned there and it should be fine methinks.

Edit: And re-date the BSA's ofcourse!

Thanks again, this sorted things out for me nicely!

Is there a way to disable that weird focusing/blurring effect when looking directly at an object?

It's the Depth of Field shader, just go to the shaders section of MGE again and remove it

I'm having trouble, people.

Trying to install the Overhaul, got as far as step 22... and that's where things stop as I try to open MGEgui. "This program has stopped working, blah blah blah". I've got .Net framework and everything, that's okay, but as I check regedit, the only thing the registry holds is (Default). Nothing else. I've changed the resolution through the launcher several times, even changed other options - nothing works. No added entries. And when I try to start Morrowind to see if that helps, I of course get a message about MGEgui not being configured.

So what can I do, guys? Is there a registry somewhere that I can get? Or do I have to uninstall the whole thing and start over again (this time launching the game first at least once, which I didn't do this time as I went straight from installing the game to installing MGSO)?

Pleeeease tell me I don't have to do it all over again!

If you're using Windows 7 or Vista 64-bit and have Morrowind installed to the Program Files (x86) folder, create a new folder called Bethesda on your drive and move the Morrowind folder and all of its contents to the new folder. If you don't have a 64-bit OS, or if that doesn't help, temporarily remove or rename the d3d8.dll and dinput8.dll in your main Morrowind folder, change the resolution via the launcher and start the game. After it loads, exit, then restore those two files. Morrowind *should* work properly after that. If none of this helps, check the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1240985-morrowind-graphics-extender-mge/ for more tips.

As the instructions clearly said NOT to install Morrowind in Program Files, I didn't. I usually put all games somewhere else. Anyway, moving those files fixed it. Thank you!

I haven't used the overhaul, so I don't know what the readme says, but I'm glad you got it working. :)

Erm, how does this overhaul work with Tamriel Expanded and Morrowind Rebirth? I really don't see much point in starting my billionth play-through of Morrowind without playing with those new/expanded areas. I'm guessing everything works fine but just entertain a modding noob here someone who knows more about these projects..does the graphics overhaul affect them too? As in, are their terrains, textures etc afffected by this mod as well (being built upon the original MW assets that are getting overhauled in this graphics&sound mod) or will these two mods look really outdated compared to the rest of MW?

It works with Tamriel Rebuilt. For Morrowind Rebirth, I know that a compatibility patch will be done, but I don't know much about it.

I have a few questions wrt modularity. I am very used to the usual modding method of install->test->tweak for each addition. It is, as you know, extremely time-consuming so this Overhaul program seems to be a godsend. However, after using install->test->tweak system for so long I've arranged a rather particular setup that I enjoy playing with. From what I can tell by reading the installation/personalization/credit pdfs, there are options for trees and grasses. Are there other options for buildings, environments (dirt, rocks etc), clothing? Does the Overhaul handle plugin-less replacers okay or will something bungle up if it's expecting an .esp/.esm? Would using the Overhaul and then installing an alternative option (e.g. one of Connary's texture packs) have any adverse effects other than possibly bloating the Data Files folder? The Overhaul looks like a fantastic project; I'd like to use it but am not sure if it's "for me".

I'm sorry to ask, but I too have a question.

When installing Morrowind and this mod, is it best to install all the content mods I wish to use (such as TR or Creatures for example) before installing the overhaul, or should the content mods come after that?

Hi guys,

Got some major performance issues. I've set the MGE options EXACTLY as per the installation video, but I'm getting major freezing issues when I'm outside. It'll lock up for up to 10 seconds at a time before letting me continue. Noticed this in all outside areas so far - sometimes indoors too.

Oblivion/Skyrim run perfectly on standard settings so not sure why I'm having this problem. I've also followed all the additional instructions for steam users - including the installation of the latest Direct X / Net Framework etc...

My system as per dxdiag -

Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.110622-1506)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
System Model: GA-73PVM-S2H
BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
Processor: Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU E6750 @ 2.66GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
Memory: 2048MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 2046MB RAM
Page File: 1125MB used, 2967MB available
Windows Dir: C:\Windows
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
User DPI Setting: Using System DPI
System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent)
DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled
DxDiag Version: 6.01.7601.17514 32bit Unicode

Any help would be appreciated! Many thanks.

Just to add to the above... the problems seem to be at their worst in the Bitter Coast region and Balmora.
