[RELz] Morrowind Overhaul - Sounds & Graphics

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:02 pm

This is what my night sky looks like http://www.imagehosting.com/

most of the sky is nebula but big chunks are stars. Its really jarring to see large geometric shapes in an otherwise beutiful sky.

Thread #3
Old threads: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1156204-betawipz-morrowind-overhaul-sounds-graphics/, http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1158688-betawipz-morrowind-overhaul-sounds-graphics-2/

KingPix and the Morrowind Overhaul Team are proud to present the first package of the project “Morrowind Overhaul”! It’s an Italian project started 2 years ago.

FIRST THINGS FIRST:
The mods included in this package were NOT created by KingPix. The credits list that you can find here includes every single modder who made this possible! I also want to thank the morrowind modding community for the huge work they did in those past 8 (almost 9!) years. I have personally contacted mod authors and received approval to use their mods in this package. I was unable to contact some mod authors, and have done my best to abide by their wishes as specified in their mod's readmes.

"Morrowind Sounds and Graphics Overhaul" is the first pack. It contains mods that will alter and enhance the visual graphics and the sounds of the game.

The aim of this project is to make more people around the world appreciate this huge game by giving them a simple installation file which includes everything they will need to play Morrowind with gorgeous graphics and sounds. I’ve tried to keep Morrowind’s “feeling”; therefore, the mods/meshes/textures I chose are the ones that I think are most faithful to the original colours and environment.

A benefit of this compilations is that players don’t need to go through the “download every single mod out there and try it” phase of customizing Morrowind. The pack is intended for people who would prefer not to hand-pick mods out of the thousands of mods available. Modding Morrowind can be overwhelming for some people, and they might want to start out with a compilation before they feel comfortable picking and choosing mods on their own.

UPDATES:
Please note that this pack will be often updated with new versions of the mod included, bugfixes, and so on. These updates will be available as patches. After 3 or 4 patches, I will create a new version of this compilation package.

MUCH MORE IMPORTANTLY:
Please tell me as soon as possible if there are issues like “oh no, you didn’t credited [modder_name’s_here]!” or “no, you can’t include my mod in this package.” If you do not want your content in this package, let me know, and I will remove it right away.

Oh, and just to be correct, here's the Morrowind Overhaul Team behind this project:

Kingpix - Project Leader and pack building/ tweaking
Fafolo - Italian Install Guide (wonderful)

Where do the rugs come from? first thought it's vp, but now unsure after checking the textures... No rug textures in the credit - so from where/who are they? Looking great!

I'm not sure if anybody has already had a problem like this but I'm a little late in heading to bed as is, so I only read the first couple thread pages.

The mod compilation is working beautifully on my main character, however I am having a serious error when trying to create a new character. After the Dream from Azura cutscene, I am getting a terrible inaudible noise that plain and simply sounds like hell. Accompanying it, my FPS inside the prison boat continues to drop extremely fast quickly becoming unplayable and freezing. (Muting all in-game volume in the menu doesn't avoid the latter part.) I did not receive any new error warnings when loading up the new Morrowind except for the shield spell mesh that there's already a patch for, and the installation went smoothly except for the exeOpt program, which I ended up skipping as the instructions told me to do in case of multiple failures.

This is still truly amazing work tough, I already love it!

I had the same problem in the past Deadra Lord, the problem appeared to be a conflict between one of the TLM plugins and Expanded Sounds, but only if you are using Expanded Sounds 1.2 (as found http://www.pirates.retreat.btinternet.co.uk/Sounds.htm) without the 1.3 update (as found http://z13.invisionfree.com/Pirate_Lords_Mods/index.php?showtopic=35.)

That problem persisted in my game, even when I updated to 1.3. I simply enable the mod once I'm off the boat.
Probably some compatibility issue...

Updated the file and also tried running with the TLM mods disabled. (Game refuses to start if I have Expanded Sounds disabled instead.)

No dice. :(

I know this is a dumb question but what is a good FPS with this mod? Outside I am around 15 FPS and inside around 30 FPS. Is this OK? If not, what is the best way to increase FPS? I followed the tutorial by Kingpin (I think thats the modders name) and all my settings are like his. I am running Bootcamp with my imac i7 with ATI Radeon 4850 graphics....

Any ideas? Thanks to everyone in advance for the help!

This looks like for some reason you don't have the update sky mesh.
Dunno how you managed this...

But here, DL and install this: http://www.2shared.com/file/6922846/3ce2f1b7/sky_night_02.html And report back, soldier! :toughninja:

First, stop quoting the whole page! Its a pain to browse all waaaaaaaay down every time.

As for the Frames, It depends, Morro is an old game, even if the Mod makes it look like new.
It is still taxing for a new system, because the lack of modern code!

I personally have a similar PC like you, I play full details. But I have the Grass set at 70%; and in Distant Land at 17 Cells!

Play around with the settings.

________
Grass at 70% and Distant Land at 17 Cells...where is that located exactly in the mod? Again, I am new at this and need a bit of direction...Sorry about the quoting!!

In your Morrwind folder Start MGEgui.exe

Click on Tab, Distant Land:

Draw Distance: xx ( The Number says how far you can see. More Cells, farther sight, less frames!)

Reflection: xx ( If you have bad frames, try using only Sky and landscape )

About the grass; This option is only available if you use the Distant Land File creation wizard. ( under the Tools Tab)
But you have to run the wizard again and create another distant land file with less grass, though.

Don't worry, we're all new here

This looks great, I use a modified superpack by Fliggerty which has served me well over th last couple of years, and this looks like the best new option...although I will have to wait till I get a new PC that can haddle that many shaders and grass models...but looks magnificent anyways

Myxale---

Thank you so much! Any other specific tips for improving FPS? I saw that Antialiasing (sp?) should be turned off too? What is a decent FPS for the game to perform "smooth"? Thanks!!!

Tips are plenty. It depends how much you are willing to make the game look less pretty :whistling:

Try AA and AF low or off. Or Reduce Screen Resolution.

In game menu try Ai Distance lower. Turn off Shadows.
Or turn off grass completely. Or use no Trees. There are many things.

But the thing is, it will never run as smooth as Vanilla! But it'll look bad.

Smooth is around 25 and above if you ask me. I do not always have a smooth frame-rate. But the i can live with it! :icecream:

Smooth to me is more about consistency than actual FPS. A constant stable 30 is better than constant fluctuations between 20 and 50.

I agree that around 20-25 is needed to be somewhat playable. It can go down to 15 or so in crowded areas like Balmora but any less and it becomes a slideshow.

I am Murphy's Law incarnate when it comes to modding, so it's no surprise to me. However adding that fixed it perfectly and it is now running smoothily.

ps: is there supposed to be green smoke coming out of the caldera mages guilds chimney? If so, it's a nice little touch of detail that took me by surprise.

Is there a way to force the game to allow us to use all of the hairstyles that originally were available with Morrowind/Tribunal/Bloodmoon. I have tried enableracemenu in the console and I am still stuck with a very limited selction of vanilla hairstyles. So far this is the only real complaint I have on an otherwise great overhaul compilation.
