Morrowind Remake, Anyone?

Post » Sun Oct 31, 2010 2:41 am

I think that there should be a game that combines Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim (Maybe with some new provinces) all in one game and let's you roam freely between the three and do quests. But they could up the graphics on Morrowind and Oblivion to match Skyrim or even better. That would be like an uber Elder scrolls game... The only problem would be deciding what to call it...

Given how much vitriol tends to fly whenever Morrowind is brought into a discussion with another game, any difference is enough of a difference to invoke ire. People will complain that it's casual and a mindless hack-and-slash or that the bosmer don't have horns and completily black eyes or whatever other pathetic excuse they'll drum up to justify snubbing it.

That is all.

Not a total remake. I'd like to see a spinoff game set in the province Morrowind ( 2k? Perhaps more of a straightforward action/ adventure title as opposed to an RPG?), but leave the game itself alone.

The fact that the game is still playable, or the fact that there is a gazillion mods out there for Morrowind to improve itself many times over, or the fact that there is actually a project to move it to different engine, I don't think Morrowind need to be remade by Official hands.

So they're going to pull a Black Mesa: Source kinda thing with it?

I'd like for the Tribunal expansion to finally do the Tribunal justice. You got five bad asses - Almsivi, Sharmat, and Nerevar - in the same province, and the plot is a freaking goblin army and a weather dominator?

[censored]tiest expansion in TES history. Below horse armor. Never again, Bethesda. Please.

Not really. Black Mesa: Source takes the Source engine and builds Half Life 1 in it. For Morrowind a new engine is written that the original game can be played on. They're not going to have to rebuild the whole world.

I think Beth may just continue until all of the provinces have been done. Then remake Arena and Daggerfall. And then combine them all into one big game.

I'm sure the computers and consoles will be able to handle it by then, or maybe that far into the future we'll all just have alternate reality chips installed into our brains.

Curse you youngsters! I'll be long gone by then!

If they decided to remake Morrowind, I would cry tears of impossible joy.

I would cry, laugh, puke, crap, and [censored] my pants all at once.

I'd love it, but it'll be a waste of time, energy, money, and won't ever happen, nor will be taken seriously if it's released at full game value.

I think you are wrong. If they remade MW, and didn't change anything but the combat system and graphics, I'm sure a million TES [censored] (myself included) would be more than happy to shell out $60 for a PS3 or XB360 version of the game.

Ha ha since when id the word Fan Boys a curse word?

No point in remaking Morrowind, honestly - if compatibility and aesthetics are what you're after, the OpenMW project will hopefully help to ensure the game remains stable and playable for generations of computers to come. And when modded sufficiently, Morrowind can look very impressive, comparable to Oblivion and sometimes beyond that.

You have to consider that much of the fan love for Morrowind is from nostalgia, and remaking a game will just come off as a drain on Bethesda's production team as well as an uncanny valley sort of scenario between the original game's atmosphere and new technology. Let's just get Skyrim out the door already. :P

Nah.

As cool as it would be, I think it's better for Bethesda to use their time making something new and shiny for us rather than rehashing old stuff.

Besides, Morrowind ain't that old yet! Give it another decade or so - virtual reality Morrowind!! Dohoho...

That would be the biggest waste of time Bethesda would ever do. You know, if people want a MW remake so bad, Skyrim will most likely include a brand new spankin' CS! :hubbahubba:

Ehhh... on paper it sounds like a cool idea, but I think that I want good 'ol Morrowind to stay the way it is. I think that if it was "modernized" it wouldn't be as special to me. It has its flaws, but they kind of add to its personality, and as was pointed out earlier, it can be modded to have amazing graphics. Just my $0.02. :)

It's already amazing, why release it again, when they could focus on future titles?

Remaking classics is very rarely a good idea. With video games its a little different - Sierra did it well many years ago.

Even though I can't recall what classics Sierra did, the question is, if they did such a great idea with them, where are they now? Gone, finished, so let Bethesda continue on the future, not the past.

No, the game is good the way it is. Besides, as it stands now, each Elder Scroll is focusing on a separate province so making a remake would just get in the way of us seeing new regions of Tamriel.

I'd like to Revisit Morrowind , Thats where I lost My Elderscrolls-Ginity  . As long as people put a lot of detail in with quests and items , I don't really Care what people say the book "Infernal City" said happened . There is no reason not to Revisit, and if yah Don't want to go then Don't download the mod, and if you want an "Up to Date" Wasteland go make it yourself no sense in complaining , right? Edit: didn't Figure ya'll were talking about a whole New game , thought it was talking bout' mods .

No, morrowind doen't need to remade. I would love a re-made user friendly daggerfell for my 360 though.

Yeah, they should definitely have a team work on Daggerfall for an Xbox Arcade release or something someday.

Yeah maybe a remake when Morrowind becomes 20 years old. And still, it would be pretty playable without being too oldish.

But I would definitely love a Daggerfall remake. I'm not talking redoing the exact same game again with the graphics of TES5, but add the unfinished features Daggerfall was supposed to have, and a little graphic and interface overhaul.

Definitely. I can't play Daggerfall, I really hate the interface for dungeon maps and the leveled way the Main Quest is done, but it really interests me.
