UK Morrowind PC-CD ROM box art is gorgeous!

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 10:36 am

Most American Morrowind players haven't seen this. In the days of digital gaming where the art of game box design is being forgotten, I give you one more reason to Love Morrowind. I just scanned all this in. Enjoy!

http://www.automatichamster.com/keening/scans/pccdrom.html

I'm posting this to archive what is rarely seen in the states, and to prove a point that sometimes it really is nice to actually buy a game rather than to download it, for those that care about owning this kind of art. Yes, I'm an artist and an art collector.

I love it! Especially the scroll insert design. Very warm and inviting like a camp fire... Or a damn great video game. Almost the same thing, right?

Never even seen it myself. Looks awesome! Yes, especially the (Elder?) scroll. All the screenshots are neat as well. I'm kinda surprised they've still kept that one Dunmer in every box I've seen...

Spoiler
Is he the canonical Nerevarine? Always thought he is.

Reminds me of when I first got the game. I remember reading and lookin at the pictures in a game magazine felt as exciting as actually playing the game :D
The same feeling I get lookin at this box art

You might enjoy this collection of various localized editions of Morrowind cases, covers, etc.

And yes, I kinda miss ye olden days when PC games came in boxes as big as a med student's textbook. Maunauls of 40 pages, maps, gorgeous art and sketches... Heck, I still miss the cover art of vinyl music albums and even the short-lived laser discs. Its just not the same with CDs/DVDs, they can't be very generous or expressive on such a small space. What will we cover-lovers do when such entertainment mediums are no larger than a small button? *sigh*

Lyriel - that's pretty cool that Moby Games has that section, but I dont see the black collectors edition there... Maybe it's on a different page. Still, my own presentation is thankfully different and therefore not entirely redundant....

Heck, I remember the days of Ultima II, Ultima IV, where you actually got several detailed books and an ACTUAL cloth map, not a textured paper map that you had to pre-order in order to get. Granted, expensive special edition games may help games like planescape financially justify a sequel with modern interface, but when people buy digitally, it further solidifies the message that gamers don't want to own anything, and those of us who like the manuals and companion books and other extras won't get that stuff when we buy it in a store unless we pay extra.

It's an era of gaming that was pretty awesome, and I'm glad it's being archived by multiple sources.

I'm from the UK, and my copies look like this:

http://cdn3.spong.com/pack/t/h/theeldersc256783l/_-The-Elder-Scrolls-III-Morrowind-Game-of-the-Year-Edition-PC-_.jpg

I'd love to find a version without the advert :(

Actually, the 10th anniversary i coming up - I wouldn't put it past them to do a re-release, like with Oblivion! I'd certainly buy it!

Yeah, I'd love the map too. Currently I've only got Skyrim and the Shivering Isles on the board next to my PC, it would be great to have Vvardenfell!

Thank Zenithar for eBay, I guess :P

I got mine on ebay or amazon, I forget, but I didn't pay too much for it, and it came with a map. I already had the GOTY and collectors edition for the US, plus the original US releases of Morrowind, Tribunal, and Bloodmoon. That other version with PC GAMER PRESENTS makes me want to stab my knee with an arrow. :( But at least you have the game and expansions....

I'm lucky enough to have that original UK version, plus the GOTY editionwithout the PC Gamer banner on it. It came with a map too which sounds like that is unusual??

My original US box has the artwork, 15 pics inside the fold over flap and 6 on the back of the box. Not as big and gorgeous as some of the Europeans packages but still nice. My recently purchased GOTY box is black, twice the size with less than half the number of pictures. Thanks for sharing.

BTW, I too believe that the Dunmer on the back cover is the quintessential Nerevarine

Yeah, the black-themed GotY edition with both extensions, a manual and a paper map here, too. Without any additional third party banners or adds. :) Except a few RPG and Game of the Year mentions with logos.

Yeah, I've never seen that before. That's pretty damn cool, and I'm somewhat jealous I'm stuck with the "battlechest" esque version. One of these days I'm going to try and snag a collector's edition...

I absolutley love it! Beautiful pics on both the cover and the discs and the layout is awesome! I got the GotY and I didn′t even get a paper manual, and you can definitely forget about the map! Had to look one up online and print it out :yuck:

Please, pretty please, send me your copy!!

My first version of Morrowind was given to me by my friend, and he only had the book with it (no case or map, must've lost it), and then I bought my next one on Steam to get the expansions. I really want a physical copy, with the map too.

Love the scroll on the back of this one BTW.

Pretty boring (but not as bad as xSaiko's that completely ruins the art) and inside it were only the 4 CDs (Morrowind, Tribunal, Bloodmoon, Construction Set) and nothing else. At all. The manual was a PDF on the Morrowind disc I believe.

I wish I had the map too!

Exactly the same, but I've got the paper manual AND the map. Strange.

Same here, but I only have one disc. Everything is on it though. But I also wish they had the decency to include a paper map and manual. Why being so cheap!? :swear:

I picked up the Edition that came bundled with the Tribunal disk, It had the both maps, Vvardenfell on one side and Mournhold on the other.
Never saw that one though, looks lovely.

I have the original box with the book and map plus each of the original expansions. No Mournhold map but I have the Solstheim map from Bloodmoon.
