Heads up. Several people have been considering buying MW and it's on sale for $9.99 until May 7. This is the time to get it.

Cheers for that. I've been toying with the idea of buying it on Steam as a backup to my (very well-loved) DVD copy. It would save further wear and tear on said DVD when I pick MW back up again.

Anyone know how the Steam version plays with mods? I assume well, since Oblivion does. I know you have to turn off the Steam in-game community to get MGE to work, but any other quirks I need to know about? Also, I know the Steam version of the game doesn't come with the Construction Set...I assume that can just be installed off the DVD I've already got, though.

Edit: Oh, and the Morrowind Code Patch works with Steam, right? That's a deal breaker right there if it doesn't.

If you have Steam version and want mods to work correctly, MCP is the right answer. It fixes a crucial issue(probably the only difference of Steam version, wrong bsa dates) with Steam version of Morrowind.

No problem with mods using MCP and MGE.
The CS issue is a pain for new players but if you have a normal install already, just copy the CS application to your new Steam location. I didn't have to do anything else, it just worked.

Nice. I'm going to buy the Steam version as a back up to my very well worn CD version. The only drawback to the Steam version, at least in my opinion, is the lack of the Construction Set. But since I have the CS from my disk version installed I'm going to assume it won't be a problem.

Bought it. Just finished playing my ancient GOTY edition on console, and decided to finally get a PC copy. Spent a couple hours getting the overhaul up and running and I am absolutely blown away. And I haven't left Census and Excise yet....

and he is probably going to be regretting that discision because I have found that the steam verision of oblivion to be unusually laggy,

what is also funny how a ten year old game has less technical issues then a game released 6 years ago, obilvion makes me want to tear my hear out with all its engine and technical problems.

but oblivion still is a good game though

anyways nice too know morrowind is on steam, not sure I want to buy it on steam since I am having so many problems with oblivion

I know Morrowind has been ranked as one of the greatest RPGs of all time, but has it aged well? Does the steam version have any major glitches or issues? Considering getting it, but in doubt as if its still worth a playthrough of the vanilla.

Bought it last time it was on sale on Steam for the same price. Maybe one day they'll sell it for 4,99 Whatever-your-currency, as they once did for Oblivion. :)

Get morrowind and then get the morrowind overhaul by kingpix. I played for the first time after I put 400 hours into skyrim and I was blown away. Its gorgous and im still amazed by how well the game looks 100 hours later.

As has been stated get it and the overhaul. It won't look as good as skyrim but graphics don't make the game. The only other thing I would add is if you've not played it before make sure you know what you're getting into. There's a page somewhere that explains the differences between morrowind, oblivion and skyrim. I'd read that first if you can find it. But ultimately, graphics aside, it's a superior game.

I notice a bunch of people are getting the Steam version as a backup... ah, is there anything I should know here? I too have an "ancient" copy on CDs that I bought used to begin with and have since played the hell out of. It never occured to me that CDs aren't forever. I always treat mine nicely and do not generally leave them around where I'd have to worry about stepping on one. Unless the Morrowind CDs have an unknown tendency to simply explode in the drive after years, it wouldn't occur to me to purchase the game again?

Well, I bought a Steam copy for about $8 on sale last year. I did it mainly so I didn't have to have a CD in the drive to play. That has two benefits: first, the obvious simplicity and second, not having to handle the CD means less chance of dropping or scratching it. (I've ruined a few CDs, it happens)
In addition, if you already have a CD version, you can use the CS from that in the Steam install, getting around the only defect in the Steam version.

Ah, okay then. I was just wondering if perhaps the original Morrowind CDs had a notorious tendency to corrupt or some such after a couple years of hard use. I first started playing the game on console, and when I realized the world would be a happier place if I could mod, I bought the PC version on eBay. So my Morrowind CDs were already used for who knows how long before they came to me, and I continued playing them obsessively. I'm just one of those people who likes to have a drawerful of games lined up with their boxes and manuals. Somehow it's more satisfying to me than a folder full of icons. I've got the folders too, of course... all together it's scary how large a backlog of games I've purchased and sometimes even installed but never played.

I'm currently downloading it simply because of the expansions. 10 bucks for the whole thing is a steal.

I have oblivion on steam and on xbox, it is not laggy on either, it must be your graphics card or something.
