Morrowind sounds and graphics overhaul?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 11:37 am

I wasn't contacted about this nor have I given permission for my work to be included in any compilation. I would assume they didn't bother to seek permissions to release this compilation.

Even if they didn't I realy hope you'll allow them to continue as what I've seen in those videos is realy amazing and it would be a shame not to release such a great mod. I realy hope you'll accept :D

I think doing so would only tell them that their behavior in not contacting original authors is ok, which is it not IMO. I will not dl or try it until they redeem their faults.
It looks good, but it's not worth it if they have not bothered asking people.

Altho Pushkatu, everything you see in the video is avaliable right now, you just have to put it together. Not a big deal, take a day or so and enjoy it! =)

They said something about a 3 clicks installation. That helps me a lot considering I'm such a noob when it comes to installing such complex and time consuming mods. I'd probably end up making a topic and ask for help, like I used to when I had problems installing FCOM for Oblivion. If I'd be a modder I'd let them do it, if it's for the comunity.

Anyway I realy hope they'll came to an agrement as I'd realy, realy like to get my hands on that installer :P

I wholeheartedly agree.
It's for the community's sake.
The compilation is very useful for many people, especially those who can't afford to spend a lot of days downloading and installing mods, let alone configuring complex utilities and stuff, plus troubleshooting.
I sincerely hope the project will keep alive.

Also, I'd like info on what it includes. It's a 1,3 GB file so it would be a good idea to have access to the readme/info beforehand IMO. Perhaps I'm missing it as I don't understand italian, but I can't find the info either in the official thread or on the download page.

Hi,
My goal has been to help people get the opportunity to enjoy such marvellous mods produced by the great community of Morrowind modders in the most user-friendly way.
My work came down to assembling the many mods and building a user-friendly quick installer with a videotutorial guide to make it possible for people to appreciate the outstanding jewel that modded Morrowind is.
I have expressedly mentioned in the readme's the mods contained in the compilation and the authors who created them, as well as mentioning that ALL I DID was to build the installer and the guide in order to make the compilation work, nothing more than that.

Sincerely, King_Pix.

Sure your intentions are good, but you didn't ask for permission to redistribute other people's mods.

Why didn't you just make a modlist? That would've worked fine...

All intentions well. but what happens when an author wants to update his mod etc? If the readme says you can use it, surly you can, however in some of those readmes it's written in their own words about permissions etc. It's a great compilation and I agree it is time consuming to put things together yourself so It will surly help many new people however please do go through all neccesary trouble to ask permissions first, not only include readme.

That you credit people is one thing, that's all good. Permission on the other hand has to do with a lot of other things. There has been so much hiahatus about this through the history of the forums, modders quitting because of it.

If you feel that it is truly worth releasing something when you know it can damage so many who helped contribute to modding, then go ahead, but I know that I would not feel good at all if I used someone else's work without permission.

I hope you see the reason behind this because I believe your intentions are good. It's a good idea =)

Keep it up =) and respect others if they would not give permission. I'm sure if you ask you'd get mostly OKs. But if you don't ask, people will get angry, I don't think you want that.

I doubt it, I've seen the opposite most of the time, and I don't like compilations myself, one should be able to choose what they want in their game.

I think that all the informations about the project they will be available to brief.
That's an immense job, as you can imagine, and also the simple operation of translation time is needed.

As it regards the credits, I think that everything will systematize it, considering that it will revolutionize the game and that it will bring benefits to the whole community that loves Morrowind.

Does this mean your ignoring My request for removal of My mods from this project?

I can't find a single thing on the website even mentioning any of the modders that made all the stuff in this compilation. ..... The more I think about the more uncool I think this project is.

Helping the community? .... do you think pissing off modders helps the community?

I think that kingpix was trying to say that he is going to ask for permissions very soon. to not ask them sooner was sure a mistake, but he admitted his fault... so don't be so pissed and just wait, it's not in the intentions of anyone to piss off the community :P

I also believe the modders should have gotten should have been notified of this, and it is all for a good cause. I hope this project can still go through as planned, many people would really appreciate the simplicity in installing such a huge list of mods.

The graphic pack has been released... they will follow others.. gameplay and atmosphere.. it will be a different game... anything else other than oblivion.

According to me Darknut has to understand that it has been done everything bona fide... I hope thath he consider us.

they will follow the excuses to Vality and everybody the modders that are felt offended in this sad story that I confirm the guilt it is to impute to the inexperience.

I'm afraid that an apology may be too little too late, especially if you go on releasing things that you have been expressly requested not to do so.

Thats not to say you have a bad idea with this compilation, on the contrary I think its a cool idea, however I feel that you would have been better off releasing the installer standalone with an html document linking to mods that would work with it, rather then releasing the mods without authorization from the original modders.

Respect is all that an artist has to go by when it comes to having control over their intellectual properties, ignoring readme's and requests regarding an artist's wishes, is like burning a dvd to give to your friend, its unethical if not illegal, that alone should at the very least postpone any further development untill proper permissions can be obtained in my humble opinion.

It's not really the same as piracy, since stuff can be downloaded for free in the first place. So if someone wanted a mod they would look up it's page on PES or whatever, not search it on a torrent/warez etc. site.

I realize that it is not exactly the same, which why I included the line on ethics rather than legality, regardless, I am not trying to dampen anyone's spirits, I was merely expressing my opinion on the subject, I think I'll drop it now though as there is no sense in throwing salt on a wound.
