Morrowind sounds and graphics overhaul?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:22 pm

Bethesda has only the right.... any other. Is also true that however it needs to ask the permission to use other people's job... but it has been underlined more times that it has been the inexperience of the first time without any subterfuge...

Bethesda does not hold the only right. In fact, to a number of works, they hold no right.
I'm almost positive that in court, I would hold every right to my shaders. Not only can they be used with other games or programs, they were not made using any Bethesda tools. In fact, they've never touched or been loaded by a Bethesda product. MGE loads them, using Microsoft libraries, and MGE is licensed under the GNU GPL. The code to the shaders, then, is not licensed under Bethesda's EULA, nor does that license apply to it. Only my license and permissions do.
For ESPs, then the EULA applies. Unless you make it in MWEdit or Enchanted Editor, then things get sketchy and I don't know who gets what.
With textures and models, Bethesda again doesn't own the textures you make, unless they're based off Bethesda textures. Same with models. Not everything that comes out of Max is owned by Autodesk or Bethesda. The NifTools exporter is a third-party program and works with many non-Bethesda games, so they don't even own the NIF. Plus they don't own the NIF format, that's NetImmerse (who, by not patenting it, doesn't claim exclusive rights to it).

I think I'm right, but my mind is starting to feel fuzzy, so don't take it to court. :P

As I said earlier, there is an easy (well, not as easy to make) solution to this, make a modlist. Sure, the user will have to download everything individually, but this is IMO better because they will have the chance to judge if the mod will fit into the game or not.

I personally don't want my mods in any compilations because I can't control them, and it bugs me to think that the downloader may be downloading the whole pack to get many other author's work, while I may only hold a small amount of space in the compilation. There are plenty other reasons than these to why I hate compilations, but I don't really feel like getting into it.

Now, on a side-note, would you allow your work to be included in an optional compilation?
Say, for example, a program was made allowing users to select a mod for each category (or none if they chose). It downloaded Better Bodies for you, then whichever head mod you picked (say, using radio buttons to select one from a list). Whichever texture replacer (because then, they would be downloading yours for it's qualities). Land masses. Etc.
A module compilation the would download and install what you wanted, but only what you asked for. How do you feel about that?

Going down the "legal this & not legal that" is a slippery slope & I think is beside the point. .....

This whole thing is about respect ...... & for the most part there has always been respect in the Morrowind modding scene (with a few exceptions)

Obviously you guys can choose to to go ahead & release this mod with mine & others content in it against our wishes & technically we can't do anything other than complain about it to every Morrowind forum on earth or quit modding all together.

I for one won't ever quit modding .... I might quit releasing them if it stops being fun ... but it will take more than this little drama to do it.

I know you guys prob put a ton of work in this .... but its "your" fault .... not mine that you choose to go the way you did.

Its always been the policy around here to ask modders "before" using their stuff .... especially in a compilation...... its the descent thing to do & lets be honest no one should of had to tell anybody that.

The justification that not everyone can install these mods is ridicules! How smart do you have to be to copy a file from one place to another ...geez

None of these mods in this in this comp are hard to install ... not one ... not even MGE ... if you bother to read the "Very" explicit instructions.

If My views on this situation means I'm arrogant so be it .... if that mean you won't use My mods .... so be it.

Hi, i' King_Pix, the author of those videos. =D

No, there isn't ENBseries, it's the TrueBloom g5 edited! That's a complete morrowind Graphics & Sounds Overhaul pack that includes over 100 mods of textures/Models and sounds, installable with 3 clicks! Now it's only in italian, soon in english!

PS: Sorry for my english >_>

I was going to do exactly this... but you beat me to it! Well that's fine by me, awesome work I'm sure. It's an awesome idea because even having a ton of experience installing mods doesn't mean I wan't
to go through the whole mess of it, and it would be great for new people.

Though a list of options of what to install would be best. I was thinking along the lines of package that people might like to go along with OpenMw when it came out, so the option of installing MGE or not would be very helpful.

As for the whole permission thing: getting permission from all the authors would be ridiculous if not impossible. Taking out mods on request however is perfectly reasonable.

I was going to point this out too, it isn't hard at all to install mods, searching for them is a different subject, but that's why we have modlists like Mythic mods and Telpheros' list etc. So as I said, a list works, no problems. I have no problem with someone linking to my mod, distributing it is another.

EDIT: What you've done is similar to berry picking, say person A went out and picked a ton of berries, then put them in the fridge. The next day person B decided to take person A's berries and share them with everyone without permission. It's a similar situation, there is work involved, but none of it is worth real money, and someone else takes control of what you've done and you find yourself in a tricky situation, meaning I don't think person A would be very happy.

Anyways that's sort of how I feel about the whole thing, I picked these berries myself and I want control of where they go and what happens to them, meaning I don't want my stuff in any compilations.

Actually, it's more like they decided to clone your berries and share them with other people. You don't lose your berries in any way, and more people get delicious smoothies.

...cut...

Thanks Vality.
As you can see, the list was doing.
I added all the names of the mods and all the authors!
In a couple of days, the list would be included with the setup!
PS: The list is not completely finished

Best regards,
King_Pix

You should also list what versions you intend to include. I'm only seeing three listed with version numbers.

Some of those mods haven't made it past beta versions, and really have no business going into a compilation.

Hi Darknut, the description contested of the video has been removed... you can check.

It seems me that up to this moment is respected the ideas of everybody. The respect first of all.

The discourse that you do on the rights is acceptable
and King pix it seems me that youhas given you a test.

To: Kingpix & company:

At this point ... I don't want you to use My stuff ... connary has posted that he doesn't want his stuff used & you stated in your own forum that Vality7 is not on board either.

Why don't you guys just release the installer by itself with a list of all the mods required & where to get them:

Benefits from this method:

1: Permission from modders is a non issue as your not actually redistributing anybodies stuff.
2: When various mods get updated to a new version it would be a non issue because, again your not actually redistributing anybodies stuff.
3: No one has to download an try to run a ridiculously big 1.5 gig .exe file ... that frankly severely limits who can use this compilation in its current form.

4: everybody wins ...

the internet is full of list of mods, anf this is not the intention.

the purpose of this package is to don't bother people with the installation of 100+ mods by downloading, copying and checking compatibilities for everyone of them. with a package like this you don't have to bother.

that's not true that every morrowind player likes to install mods. some of them just don't want to spend time by doing that, so they don't appreciate the awesome-looking morrowind that you have created in 7 years. I think that's not right... everyone should see what the community did and enjoy it...

People don't want to be bothered with Dl'ing & installation of mods?! ..... Geez ... Have we reached the Pinnacle of stupidity & laziness? ..... If this was the attitude from the start ..... all the 1000's of MW mods would have never been made ....... If this is truly where Morrowind modding is headed Maybe I am done.

you don't seem to understand... many mw fans like to mod their game installation, I like to do that, but there are also many gamers that are too lazy to do that. you know, not only the users of this forum play morrowind and many of them just dind't know the existence of mods.
so you think that if someone is to lazy to learn how to properly install mods they don't deserve to use them?

IMO people who want to use mods simply will have to invest a little time in learning how to install them. It's not rocket science. Plus, it helps if you ever want to mod other games as well. If someone is unwilling to spend more than 10 minutes on installing mods, well, then I think mods are simply not for him.

People who are lazy and want to use mods need to get less lazy so they can.

I also think that with a pack like this people have no idea what the hell they're adding to their game, having only a vague list with a 1 line description. This can cause problems with things like ENBSeries. There isn't a magic configuration of ENBSeries that is compatible with all systems, so people are going to have to tweak it most likely, which they probably can't. And perhaps they don't even want ENBSeries: It can take away quite a bit of FPS.

Erm... people will still need to download the equivalent of mods with your compilation and install 1000's+ of files.

If someone doesn't want to spend time downloading mods, why would they spend time downloading yours?

People are going to see YOUR choice of what the community has created due to what you've selected for the compilation. Many modders are not represented. If people really want to see what the community has done over the years, they're better off downloading for themselves and trying a greater variety of mods. With a tool like Bain (part of Wrye Mash v0.84), mod management and texture mixing is vastly simplified.

I can't believe, so you create mods just for the people that want to install them?
it's a small part of morrowind players, you know that? I had to explain to a huge number of people how install and use your mods just because they were to lazy to figure how to do that.

so I assume that you don't want your works to be know from a larger mass of people?

I don't want My mods kept secret & they're not ... they're all over the place DNGDR has been translated to 4 languages I think at this point. ( each one of those "ask" my permission 1st by the way )

I just don't want my stuff in this mod & neither does connary or vality7.

ok, I won't discuss your decision, I was just trying to understand your reasons, and you don't seem to have any logical one.

No logical reasons? .... they have been stated over & over

I'm tired of this ....... Kingpix & company can either abide by Mine, connary & Vality7 wishes or not ..... if they choose to ignore us it will be a set a very said precedent indeed & will change Morrowind modding forever .... at least for me.

The numbers of mods produced til now, are so many that it would be impossible for the most of us, to know at least good part of them, test them for compatibility etc...
I know someone said the modlist could resolve the problem, but how many links have you clicked recently, just to realize that gave you a 404 error?

Have you checked recently the links to the download of The Underground?
I am talking about one of the greatest mod ever released, and this is what happened to the download links of the several sites that hosted it

http://beta.thelys.org/THE_UNDERGROUND.zip

http://telesphoros.tesmods.net/THE_UNDERGROUND.zip

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Listmod.asp

http://www.ufrealms.net/downloads2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=1499

You may find here the original page where these links come from

http://qarl.rpgmods2.com/download.html

I just don't want my stuff in this mod

I think that people say no, because they scare that after all their efforts, they'll be only a name in the credits, at the bottom of the readme, and that only the name of who compiled the new work will be recalled. Am I right? ;)
I am also like this, but then I think that if someone has considered my work worth enough to be included into another work, is someone else will enjoy playing what I have done, this will be a proper reward.

If my name a day will be forgotten, and Google will not return any result anymore by typing "Arcimaestro Antares", at least I'd like my works survived to me and people continue to enjoy them. After all, this is the reason I have made them. :)

So people, reuse them, reupload them and, above all, enjoy them :)
