Morrowind at the end of the 3rd Era.

Post » Tue Feb 08, 2011 10:14 pm

Ok so maybe these questions have been asked before, but:

First off, is the third era officially over? I really didn't know, it was said these were the closing days of the 3rd era in both TES3: Morrowind and TES4: Oblivion and I never really knew if it ended and a "fourth era" has started.

And what about my lovely Morrowind? I remember in TES3 that it was talked about different parts of the empire wanting to leave it, Morrowind being one of them. Has anything happened?

Maybe these answers have not been answered in any way and if they haven't feel free to "speculate."

Thanks guys.

Well, both the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Fourth_Era and the http://www.imperial-library.info/history/3.shtml say the third era has ended.

As for what happened to Morrowind, there's a rumor that the neravarine has left Morrowind to go to Akavir though this is still just a rumor. Meanwhile House Indoril has been destroyed due to the fall of the Tribunal and house Redoran has had major casualties from fighting the daedra, ald'ruhn has been completely http://www.imperial-library.info/obscure_text/fallofaldruhn.shtml.
House Telvanni is being besieged by Orc and Nord mercaneries.
House Dres has decided to ban slavery under pressure of king Helseth, they have also formed an alliance against the Nords.
The province is at the moment very unstable and Helseth tries to maintain it as properly as possible but it's just a question of how long he can maintain it.

I thought Redoran, not Telvanni, was attacked by the Nords and orc mercenaries, because they occupy most of the land near Skyrim.

I thought it was Telvanni since Redoran was being besieged by the daedra, but I might be wrong. Ask any of the other lore buffs around here.

It was Redoran.

I have heard that the Great Houses of Morrowind are in upheaval. Indoril is in ruins, and Redoran is besieged by the Nords of Skyrim.

They say that slavery has been abolished in Morrowind. House Dres and Hlaalu have renounced the slave trade, and freed the beastfolk from servitude.

I have heard things are bad in Vvardenfell. The Telvanni do their best to close the gates, but it is to no avail.

I've heard nothing good. In Morrowind, they say the man-god Vivec has gone missing. Some believe he has been taken by the daedra.

Many are dead in the land of the Dunmer. Even St. Jiub, who drove the cliffracers from Vvardenfell, has fallen to the daedra hordes.

The news has not been good. I've heard it said that the daedra have overrun the town of Ald'ruhn. The entire town has been destroyed.

Rumor has it the Nerevarine has left Morrowind on an expedition to Akavir, and has not been heard from since.

They say that King Helseth has made an alliance with House Dres. Together they pick apart the carcass of ruined Indoril.

I hear that the Nords of Skyrim have been warring with the Redoran of Morrowind.

I have heard that Nord warriors have travelled from Skyrim with Orc mercenaries to assault the Redoran of Morrowind.

There are rumors that the Nords are attempting to capture the whole of Solstheim, and remove the Imperial fort on the island.

I don't recall any definitive sources stating the Third Era had ended. It's likely, though.

By the way, have a look at the http://www.imperial-library.info/pge3/morrowind.shtml for the state of Morrowind just prior to the events of Oblivion.

The Telvanni did their best to close the gates, but to no avail...until, you know, Martin summoned Akatosh.

So it seems Daedra are overrunning Morrowind, is that because of the plotline of TES IV? Or is there another reason random Daedra are popping out of nowhere.

Too bad we could have all these casualties with Daedra in TES IV :)

Martin sacrificed himself so Akatosh could appear.

...What? If the Mehrunes Dagon wants all of Nirn back, then he's not going to attacking just Cyrodiil, but all over Tamriel, such as Morrowind, and Ald' Ruhn was/is a major trading point and of strategic importance. Personally, I think there should of been more news from the other provinces; we hear quite a lot from Morrowind, but almost none from the others, I mean, shouldn't they be under the siege of the Daedra as well?

The others probably fared much better than Morrowind which was clearly in a state of chaos without the daedra attacking.

It would seem that things have gone back to crap there. They don't call them cursed for nothing.

At least they no longer have to worry about crazy people running around in their underwear clubbing people and mumbling to themselves anymore.

We probably just hear about morrowind the most since, well, there was a game about that province. :P

We could listen to a bunch of rumors about cities in summerset isles or something being destroyed, and it would be more realistic--just not particularly meaningful to an elder scrolls player.

We can assume that the gates opened throughout Tamriel, but have been closed since Martin's apotheosis.

I thought I'd just point out that the Heart of Lorkhan was NOT destroyed at the end of TES3. What happened was that the mythopoeic enchantments that Kagrenac placed upon the heart were broken by straining them to the point of collapse. The Heart itself cannot be destroyed.

Could you expand more on exactly what the heart is? Or would that be too off topic?

Lorkhan's heart is his divine spark and part of the special divinity that keeps Mundus in existence without the full presence of the gods. In some myths he gave it freely, in others he was forced.

Here is some reading, allot actually.

The simple stuff first:

http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/lunar_lorkhan.shtml

From the Monomyth, the introduction and the Heart of the World parts are relevant.

http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/monomyth.shtml

This is additional information but not directly relevant.
