Morrowind - Where did you get yours?

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 12:03 am

First I downloaded it. It was 2004 and this game has never been released officialy in my country, so it was really impossible to get here. Then in a trip on Germany I finally bought it, the regular edition and cost 3 euros and a couple of months ago I bought it again, this time the GOTY on Steam.

I hope the GOTY version you bought is the english and not the german one. Due to the devs criminal stupidity a localized game cannot run most of the english mods. The problem stems from the fact that there's no Unique-ID system for cells and topics. Instead the game uses the clear-text name which, if translated, will differ from the english one.

While I technically voted "Steam", I actually bought a retail copy (just Morrowind, no expansions) several years ago. I found that I could not get in to it (found it hard to do quests and such), so I let it go for a great while.

I also bought the XBox copy of the game for whatever reason (hey, I was getting an XBox, why not something to play to go with it?). Still couldn't get in to it (and it was too dang dark!).

So fast forward to 2012, December. After playing Oblivion and Skyrim, I decided to give this game a try again. Only I gave my PC copy of Morrowind to my bro, who is a bigger Elder Scrolls fan than I am (or so I thought), but he seemed to have misplaced the copy of Morrowind. So I ended up just buying it off Steam. For the best, I suppose. Was on sale, and comes with the expansions.

I got the english one. if the game is not available in spanish Steam installs it in english. The one I got in Germany (which is in german, of course) was simply because I wanted to have it on a real CD, never used it lol.

Bought the original release packages at GameStop when they released.

More recently I bought a second copy used on the X-Box at a local used game store when I was having computer problems and couldnt play my PC version.

But happily I have since replaced my busted laptop and cBoughtan play my PC version again

I bought my first copy of Morrowind with my first Xbox back in 2002/03? That was the vanilla game with no expansions. Then I got the PC GOTY version a few years later, after the discs died I bought GOTY on Steam last year . Morrowind is still one of my favourite games of all time.

I actually own 5 copies of the game. Two GOTY for Xbox and 2 for PC. One PC and xbox copy is sealed and a copy of the original release for Xbox. When I was introduced to this game it blew my mind, epic compared to the shooters and JRPGs I was playing at the time.
To this day I still hold a special place for this game. I literally lost a year's time playing just this game, my grades suffered.

GOTY box set. But the interesting part is how I came about to own it.

I was at the computer store place (cant remember which) looking to replace my copy of Neverwinter Nights, which had been damaged in a flood. Well I was looking at the box, when suddenly, a big golden box with "Morrowind" written on it caught my eye. I picked it up, read the back and thought "...This looks neat, and its not too expensive. Plus I can always download NWN...I did already pay for it once..."

I had no idea what I was getting. None. I didnt know what Elder Scrolls games were, and had never heard of them. Any of them.

The rest of that year is kinda a blur. I started playing well before Oblivion was even announced, and kept playing.

And here I am today. Due to sheer random chance.
