Morrowind - Where did you get yours?

Shouldn′t the poll have a retail option? Cause that′s where I got my copy which btw was GotY.

That's great news, thanks! Now I will more than likely buy the steam version. It's actually on sale right now.

I guess the "where" part is misleading. This is probably more of a "how" question.

Considering the answer options, it′s more of a "What version" question.

Close to ten years ago I bought my PC Morrowind copy at a local retail game store, shortly after that I purchased Tribunal. Never did buy Bloodmooncause Nords and werewolves just didn't thrill me at the time, still don't. Been using the original CD's until last year when I found and bought the GOTY set in a retail store.

I got My first copy in 2009 from an obscure Video Game Shop that took me about an hour of wandering around the city to find but have also recently bought it on steam just incase my disc ever decides to die.

Seriously? Wow I'm extremely lucky then, my GoTY edition had everything included.

Last year (2011) I was casually browsing the gaming section of my local Wal-Mart when I noticed a Morrowind GoTY edition box on the shelf. After examining the box it seemed to have been previously opened and then resealed. But I decided to take a gamble on it anyways; how often do you see a GoTY? in Wal-Mart especially? Of course Morrowind wasn't in the store's system so it was manually inserted for a price of $5 . The real surprise was inside the box however........

Not only did the box contain all 4 disks and the case in mint condition; but the manual, random 2002/2003 Bethesda literature, and the map. All of which was in mint condition as well. I'll have to take a picture of what I got in the box when I have a chance.

Haha I'm sure Skyrim's announcement was a huge disappointment to you then.

For the record, I didn′t get the map either in my GotY edition. Had to find it online and print it out

Personally, I think this is just as good. I got a map with my copy and, frankly, it's nothing special. It's just paper.

Back in 2003, I got an OEM version of Morrowind bundled with a graphics card from MSI. The game came without any paper map or printed manual.

But still, ya know? Also I would have liked a manual even though I technically don′t need one. But I′m side-tracking here, sorry

IIRC, I got no PDF manual either. That made me search UESP a lot, which spoiled a significant part of the game for me.

Would have been nice to have had a cloth map with some editions. Those little game "souvenirs" that sometimes showed up in the fat old game boxes were kind of nice. Really added some flavor.

The first edtion of Neverwinter Nights 1 had a cloth map that I thought was very nice. I still have it. It felt like a genuine artifact from the world my character was adventuring in.

I don't think they sell that edition anymore. But you might be able to find a copy on Ebay. As far as I know the Diamond edtion does not come with a map and it does not come with a manual either. The manual is available as a .pdf but it's not the same. There's nothing quite as exciting as holding the physical copy of a 224-page manual in your hands.

224 pages!? I hope it has lots of pictures in it

I definitely agree about the manual thing. I hate online or pdf. manuals, I want to hold it and flip through the pages goddamnit!

goty box in 2005. split up with first serious gf (was together for 6-7 years altogether), so was pretty bummed out. the local game shop had always done deals for pc games. i got morrowind and a game called freedom force for £10. ended up giving freedom force away and forgetting how miserable i was

(as a sidenote, that was just the initial purchase. since bought 3 more boxes. my favourite game ever.)

edit. all came with maps btw. very handy fr the first few playthroughs they were too

As you know, Dungeons and Dragons is chock full of what Todd Howard likes to call "spreadsheety" numbers. There are page after page of numbers relating to classes and gear and abilities. And a lot of pages explaining spells.

I seem to recall the Baldur's Gate 2 manual being even longer than that.
