Morrowind - Where did you get yours?

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 3:09 pm

Since Morrowind became available on Steam, I thought it would be interesting to see how everyone obtained their copy of the game.

I got the original boxes years ago but I also got the Steam version on sale to have a back up and to play without a disc.

I bought Morrowind years ago back in 2004 or so, but my discs were damaged in 2008 or so and I had them fixed in 2010 or so (I borrowed my friend's copy for a while).

EDIT: Bought the GoTY version by the way.

I bought Morrowind from a game shop in 2005,a day or two later after sampling the game and deciding that it was good enough to warrant investing in the expansions i bought the GOTY version because it was considerably cheaper than buying the 2 expansions separately.

First the retail version of Morrowind GOTY (pretty soon after that first came out), then the Steam version last year because my MW disc was scratched.

I think I was 14 years old at the time. I asked my mum if she could buy it for me so she ordered it from Ebay for me (the sixy game of the year edition). I come home from school one day and it was sitting on my bed. Needless to say, 2004-2005 was thousands of hours of Morrowind from the comfort of my bed, small crt bedroom tv, and the Morrowind map beside me

Was the Morrowind map in the GoTY edition, because I never got the map.

I pre-ordered the game in 2001 from Amazon dot com. I paid for overnight shipping so it arrived the morning the game was released in North America.

Me neither. Mine had nothing but 4 CDs in a box. No manual or map or anything. I think they put it in a PDF on the main disc.

There were several releases of the GOTY and I think only the ones from the first year had paper maps.

Ah, tough luck for me. I cannot even find a .pdf of the map on the disc, though I can find one of the manual.

I don't remember getting a paper map with mine either (even though the box claimed there was one inside). I think I did get a paper manual though. But where that has gone to I have no idea.

Bought the original box years ago and the expansions separately as well. After returning from oblivion I found the GOTY version in my local game shop.

I bought my first (used) copy of the original game from a closeout bin in front of a Software Boutique (now Gamestop), just the CD in a clear case with a price sticker, no paperwork at all. Within a year or so I bought the full GotY set, but it didn't have a map or a full manual, just a little pamphlet for installation and basic controls. Later, I picked up a leftover copy of the Tribunal expansion (new) for a buck or two for the paperwork.

That initial used Morrowind CD for $4.99 was well worth every penny, and the additional $19.99 for the GotY edition was also well spent. Not certain, but I don't think I ever opened the seperate Tribunal box.

I ordered an ugly ubisoft exclusive GOTY edition from internet back in 2007 maybe. Still working.
I have thought about buying the game from steam, so I can easily install it to any computer I want and I don't have to carry my Morrowind copy always with me, but I have heard that you can't use the Construction Set with the steam version, which is quite bothersome.

You can use the CS with the Steam version, it just doesn't come with it. If you already have a CS from your old GOTY, you can copy it. That's what I did and it works fine.

From gamesas, when I reviewed it upon its initial release. The game blew me away, frankly. And though some aspects of the graphics (but not all) have dated, the depth of the game still greatly impresses. I've got that and Oblivion up, never took them off over the years. Heavily modded these days, but the games are great, regardless.
