Most expensive weapon armour item....

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 9:24 am

Simple question really, what's the most expensive weapon and armour in the game or that you've bought - whether self-enchanted at the university or bought or looted?

My current character, Twyla Dovig is a Breton Battlemage, and she generally uses weightless bound armour and weapons, but she loves to shop! (100 mercantile) so I'm trying to think of what she could buy that she would need to really save up for - she's been spending a lot of cash on skill training recently, and is quite broke at the moment, but maybe a new shiny weapon or pair of greaves might be just the thing to get her saving again?

Thanks!

Mmmm... let me see.... without looking it up on the wiki (which would really be the easiest thing to do) and not counting houses....

If you're on PC and have the UOP installed, the Nord jeweler in the IC Market District sells a fairly pricey ring - can't remember the name of it right off. It's geared toward a stealth character. Without the UOP though, it's not for sale. Rohssan's Battle Axe of Hatred is kind of pricey too.

Can't think of anything else right off that struck me as particularly expensive, or at least not in the vanilla game.

Nothing for sale at a vendor is ever better than Orcish (for heavy) or Mithril (for light) except for perhaps 1 or 2 of the unique enchanted items some of them sell... but speaking of those, that's what I'd do. Collect all of those unique pieces from the vendors. As gpstr said, though, without the UOP it's impossible to get them all without using the console, because of some bugs Bethesda left in the game with a few vendors (like the Nord jeweler).

The druid's cowl is fairly expensive, at 7000ish, Rosshada's Special, was i think around 11,100, And there's a bow around 10,000 for sale from the Khajiit in the Cheydinhal Dark Brotherhhod Sanctuary.

Thanks all, I should've said I'm on PS3, so vanilla only I'll check out the bow though - been trying for ages to get the right Oblivion world for Hatred's Soul.

Is there a specific expensive items page on the wiki ? I couldn't find one...

I also really like the idea of collecting all the specials from the vendors - I think I'm going to do some dungeon diving and get some cash right now in fact!

Thanks!

I don't see a list of expensive items. The closest is this - http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Unique_Items - which includes all the unique weapon, armor and clothing items that the various vendors sell, but also the ones that are quest rewards and such, so you'll just have to sort through it to find the stuff that's for sale. Or just go to each store. Some of the items are available from the beginning, but some of them are only available after you reach 50 mercantile and the specialized vendors start dealing in things that aren't their specialty, but once you reach that point, pretty much all of the vendors have at least one unique item.

Many of the shops spread around Cyrodiil have unique items for sale. They are quite expensive and many have interesting effect combinations. If you check most of the smiths, general stores, magic-shops you will find quite a selection of unique items. If you have more than 50 on mercantile(without fortify) it is even more of them for sale.

Hey gpsr, what is "UOP". My steathy rogue assassin noob is dieing to know. :ahhh:

Also, I've amassed 17k gold but haven't really seen a vendor item that turns me on. As I'm only level 12, there are a lot of places I haven't been to yet. Like the OP, I'm looking for ways to spend my money as well. :hehe:

@suzzi

Have you purchased a house? My favorite is Benirus Manor in Anvil. It's cheap :) and has TONS of storage. That's $5,000, then you can visit my buddy the Armorer and purchase stuff from him. It's a great time!

I have not bought a house and am still using the Abby near the first quest (Weylan? sp). Not knowing whether or not gold had importance in this game I haven't been spending much. That guy in Anvil approached me about his home but there isn't enough bathrooms and no sun deck (for the jacuzzi of course) so I'm still shopping. :lmao:

Seriously, I probably will buy a house soon as it does appear my rouge really won't find great items at vendors and will only spend on lesser items such as spells and level ups. The first store I went into had a 2 handed axe at 14K gold so immediately I figured that I'd better loot like crazy and save money.

Hey suzzi, UOP is the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5296, an... unofficial umm... patch. It's a thing that the community put together that fixes a lot of the minor things that Beth never got around to fixing, like putting the ring that the Nord jeweler in the Market District theoretically sells in his inventory so that he actually sells it (in the original, it's mistakenly placed in someone else's inventory).

Gold is fairly important early in the game, especially if you pay for training, but later in the game, you'll probably have more than you'll be able to spend.

The house in Anvil is a pretty good deal... after you clean it up a bit. :whistling:

When you're in the Imperial City Market District, go into the Office of Imperial Commerce and talk to the woman there. She's got a good deal on a house. It's not much, but it's conveniently located (especially for a rogue) and inexpensive.

Your enthusiasm is infectious. Just saying.... :D

Today I buy a house and download the official unofficial patch. How can I be certain my game is updated (the rev I see is 1.1.425 after the UOP is supposedly installed)?

Bethesda continues to win the award for "Most Uncompleted Games".

Hey Suzzi, getting a house is fun, cos you can get all the furniture and accessories too - my fave place is Rosethorn Hall, which your rogue may like once they're ready to retire??? There's also a quest in Leyawin which leads to a gifted house which I used loads when I first started playing Oblivion - it was free, and out of town so like the Priory its easy to access.

Money's useful for enchanting weapons, buying spells and making spells and skill training... apart from that I find that once you've played the game for a while, you can amass a fortune - one of my old characters had got so much she grew tired of her materialism, so she bought expensive stuff and sold it for hardly anything, until she had nothing left, and then she went and lived off the land in the wilds - loads of RP potential when it comes to money and charity!

The absolute latest (and last - Beth announced a while back that they're doing nothing more with Oblivion) version is 1.2.0416. Here's a http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Patch on all the official patches, what they do and where to get them.

You'll still want to use the UOP, since it fixes stuff that Beth never fixed.

Actually though - I thought to ask before and forgot, so I'll ask now (maybe a bit late) - what platform are you on? The UOP only works with the PC version.

Enjoy the house. :D

I should have checked my rev version before I d/l'd the official unofficial patch because I immediately crashed while approaching Shady Sam the Lockpick Man. I've gotten accustomed (lazy) to these sites that patch you automatically. I am on a PC.

Bethesda did the same thing with Fallout 3. There's no profit in fixing bugs but plenty in creating DLC's. I am always greatful for the bastion of customers with the knowledge and talent who go to work on creating the fixes that game companies will ignore.

The official patch fixes the game engine (and most of that was really adding things in to make SI work), whereas the UOP's fix things in the scripts and forms, so they're not really the same kind of "patch".

You need to have the official patch to enable anything made with the current construction set. The game will check the patch level any plug-in was built for, and if the game is at a lower level, it won't load that content. That means you need the official patch to make the UOP's work.

If you really want to spend some septims, go to the Arcane University. Making a few spells and enchanted armor/weapons will definitely burn away some gold :)
