Most OP Guns End Game

Post » Tue Feb 23, 2016 7:52 am

I was wondering what people are using for guns past level 65. Like many, I have situational guns that differ by enemy and, more importantly, help conserve ammunition (even though money isn't scarce). Do you use unique weapons? Legendaries? A combination? What are your favorite mods?

This is for both conversation and advice.

For those browsing this is what we have been discussing:

Gatling Laser - Incredibly powerful siege that has one of the better per shot averages late game. The charging barrel is an essential mod for best results. "Heavy Gunner" incrementally increases the damage, a fully maxed out perk of 5 stars will double whatever the base damage is. Nuclear Physicist & "Repair Bobblehead" will increase the fusion cores capabiltiies by 500 and 100 respectively (for a total of 1100 shots per core).

Most OP guns? Shotguns with the bleeding effect, because it applies on every pellet and stacks with itself.

I'm partial to a Gatling laser with the charging barrels mod and the RoF legendary mod. Probably the best all rounder in the game.

Gatling w/ charging barrels is what I have been using. Definitely OP and mows down everything I have encountered w/ ease. Mind you, I have zero points in Heavy Gunner. Can't imagine the devastation with the double damage. Also was reading on Reddit that despite using fusion cores, it one of the best per shot cost averages in the game.

Forget the double shot, unless you're running low on cores and trying to ration them. What you want is the RoF effect. The game seems to calculate the bonus based on the standard gatling laser's RoF, so it ends up doubling it compared to being a 25% boost. It absolutely murders things and effectively eliminates the primary weakness of charging barrels.

The way double shot is calculated doesn't give you double damage, but rather splits the combined damage of the modded weapon and it's base damage between two projectiles. So the effect on a charging barrel gatling laser would be very minimal and actually result in a worse performance against armoured targets I believe.

And yeah, a core sets you back about 378 caps for 500 shots. Less than a cap a shot and you're still doing hunting rifle levels of damage.

It's a beautiful weapon alright.

Gauss rifle. Either two-shot, instigating, or junky's.

RoF = Rate of fire? I'll have to take a look at that one. Thanks for the tip. On another note, 500 shots turns into 1000 with nuclear physicist. You can add on another 100 with the repair bobble head = 1100 shots for 378 (which you can whittle down with charisma, perks, magazines). Definitely a beauty.

explosive mini-gun is bar none the most op weapon i have ever used. nothing in the glowing sea survived more than 1 burst in vats.

i don't actually use it because

-it crashes my xbox

-it's too easy

-it explodes mobs into tiny little pcs and looting gets tedious

-in vats, if the 3rd shot kills it, the gun finishes the burst. it tends to send corpses into a high orbit

Is that the one called "Spray & Pray" that's on sale in Bunker Hill?

I may be going back for that. I already have a heavily modded SMG (powerful receiver, modded stock, sights, etc.) so I can just swap out most of the goodies.

I've been accumulating so much 10mm ammo that I can basically use it as cash, 1 round= 1 cap for trading. My pistol doesn't get much use these days.

I use it on my Power Armor Tony Stark build, with all 3 ranks in Nuclear Physicist and 2 ranks in Heavy Gunner it is mind bogglingly good without being game breaking level

At level 68 I use my deliverer in some situations (like when I'm burning through AP). It was my favorite weapon up until Macready got nerfed. Even with the incredibly fast critical build, I still find its damage to be meh against really tough opponents. That being said, still one of my most used weapons throughout my playthrough. Same goes for the overseers, I built that thing for long range takedowns and its still incredible.

I usually sell any legendary weapons I find, they seem to be mostly melee weapons, and I haven't built a character geared towards melee, yet.
If I do get legendary ranged weapons, I keep them as a trophy, but don't really use them.

I have one character who's a rifleman. So it's calibrated powerful receivers and reflex sights with ported barrels.
These are on a combat shotgun and a combat rifle.
Then I have a suppressed .50 cal hunting rifle with a medium scope.

My other character is being built into an unarmed and pistols character. I'm not able to mod anything too useful yet with her, so I've got something like an advanced 10mm pistol, a pipe auto pistol and some bladed knuckles.

I'm sure at some point I'll play with the legendary weapons. But I don't want to spoil the game by being any OP than I already am using non-legendary weapons.

Having both of those AND an explosive minigun I'd say the minigun is more op. Besides, Instigating missle launcher...

I see your point. The legendary weapons in and of themselves aren't very good. The mods are where the money is. I still use my core unique's that I played with at level 40 @ level 68 (Deliverer, Overseers, etc). I didn't end up getting some of the truly OP weapons until late into my playthrough (after the main story). As I was talking about earlier in the thread, the Gatling is perhaps the quintessential post-game weapon for those leveling up. It's both cost effective and damage effective. This is especially true if you are perked properly in big guns and some of the more economic related stuff. There are plenty of solid guns out there, but this one takes the cake.

Gat Laser. I don't even have any of the fancy legendary stuff mentioned earlier (though it'd be nice).

Just charging barrels and a couple big gun perks as it stands now, and I could probably kill a God with it.

Explosive pipe machine gun. Lol.

I`ve been using this weapon and it feels good and works good. Extremely powerful and versatile.

Better than Explosive minigun actually..

Explosive pipe gun can kill everything within one magazine & handle all fasting moving melee creatures better than explosive minigun.

Gauss rifle is better if using certain set up and using sneak, but not in general fight.

Yeah, I haven't seen that RoF Mod, even though it looks interesting. As far as I'm concerned, all you need is the charging barrels and you're pretty much set. I didn't perk "Big Guns" until several levels after acquiring it and only really notice a difference on the higher tier enemies (which even at my level were few and far between). There are obviously plenty of good guns out there, I just find the Gat to be the most reliable all around.

On another note, I only wear my ballistic weave armor and helmet and almost never my power armor (full X-01, naturally). I literally take no damage with the ballistic weave, why not save the cores for the gun?
