Most Important Factor of Fallout

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 10:47 pm

I wanted to see what the most important part of Fallout was to you. I suppose this could be applied to RPGs in general, but what is the one feature you could absolutely not go without.

Immersive open world is what Bethesda is most famous for.

I think adhering to the lore is the single biggest factor in ... most game series. You can retcon things, sure, but even then those changes need to make sense in the grander setting.

It doesn't need to even be an RPG to be a Fallout game (I'm speaking technically of course ) ... I see no reason why we couldn't have a fantastic RTS set in the Fallout universe and be considered part of the (wider) series, as long as it fits in with the lore, setting and tone of the other games. I thought Halo Wars was great, for example. Even though it wasn't a shooter, it fits into the Halo series just fine.

I voted for Large open world, though I actually mean a good open world, which is what Beth does well.

I chose other, so letme explain.. The most important factor is shootin. Lots and lots of shootin. Wall to wall shootin. This game is a shooter, so the most vital thing is shootin! Nothing BUT, shootin. The more shootin Bethesda can squeeze in the better shooter it will be. And that's what we all want more than anything. Shootin!

Not expecting owt after Skyrim, but consequences. Let our choices matter. A dynamic world, not just a big map with lots of dungeons.

Character skills and abilities and how they work. Those are what first and foremost created the gameplay experience within the setting and its storylines (on a broader scale it is the interaction between the character system, setting and stories, but the system still holds the top position because it delivers the game); not anymore, though, now it is just the world and the pressure to deliver is almost solely on that so the world is filled to the brim with just stuff to keep the player occupied.

I vote character skills & abilities as well. Skills affect dialogue and story as well as combat so its pretty important.

Indeed, and unfortunately Bethesda don't really look to make that a very improtant part of the game and improve on making that very interesting.

I would say it's a toss up between lore and actually being an RPG. I don't mean it needs to be top down or turn-based, but it needs the mechanics of an RPG.

It's pretty disappointing for me to see Large Open World get the majority of the votes

Me as well. People forget it says most important factor of a FALLOUT game, not a Bethesda game.

Lol I wrote exactly this in my original post, but decided to remove it before posting. I'm glad I'm not the only one who seemed to notice that too.

I understand that Bethesda owns the IP now, but they did not make all of the Fallout games and that certainly wasn't as integral to any of the games except Fallout 3. Bethesda also doesn't need to make all of their games exactly the same, otherwise they could have just made more TES if that was what they intended.

Exactly, I want a FALLOUT game, not a game featuring Bethesda's typical game characteristics.

It seems to me the people who want the Large Open World as a priority are people who are Bethesda fans and just want another "Bethesda" game.

Fallout was it's own game long before Bethesda had it, they should focus on Fallout's priorities, not the priorities of Bethesda's past games and what they are known for.

To me it just seems lazy of them, so that they can easily change production between TES and Fallout, instead of making the best unique game possible.

I want a game that I can enjoy, and has either a lot of core content for the amount of hours in it, or is engaging enough that I want to replay it several times. Fallout 3, New Vegas, and the Elder Scrolls games hit the first part well in my mind. Games like the Ratchet & Clank series nail the second one.

You can always try to buy the IP from Bethesda and make Fallout your way. Otherwise it's what most people find fun in that sells the most and make the most people happy.

It isn't about what makes most people happy. Otherwise, every game would be the same.

That would be games like Minecraft, Mario and Wii sports. The best selling BGS game, Skyrim, is below CoD, GTA, Mario, Minecraft, Pokemon and Tetris.

An IP is an intellectual property. It's the design of the game. It's art.

Take Hideo Kojima for example, he isn't interested in the best selling game he can make. He outright said that he would make a game he is proud of and that is his creation. He also said that there would be controversial material in his latest game, regardless of how it will negatively impact his sales.

If Bethesda really cares about what gets in the most people's hands, then they would start making Flappy Bird instead, after all it got more than twice the downloads of Skyrim purchases.

I'm not saying you're wrong; if it's what you find most important that's fine.
