Most intelligent enemies ever? What about allies?

Post » Thu Nov 25, 2010 2:29 am

Crytek has been marketing the AI of Crysis 2 as the most intelligent and challenging enemies ever. Based on the AI of previous games (trigens and aliens as exceptions), I wouldn't doubt that.

Will Crytek also make AI allies worthwhile?

I would be very happy with basic squad controls such as hold position, take cover and follow. If those aren't feasible, I sure hope the allied AI will at least have decent life preservation programming on par with the enemies. However, the videos against the pinger don't look promising in that regard.

Anyone else interested in decent to good allied AI for rudimentary squad combat and support?

I doubt allied intelligence is really that important to the core gameplay, i mean when you look at it, Crytek want to stress the dominance of the nanosuit over just traditional soldiers, therefore non-nanosuit AI's should be easy pickings for the alien enemies. So either way it just comes down to your allies getting slaughtered intelligently or stupidly :P
That said, from what I saw in Warhead, I'm not to worried about the allied Nanosuit AI. Their actions seemed reasonably intelligent and non-intrusive :)

I found that the Nanosuit guys in Warhead were completely and utterly thick! Just before you fight that big walker alien (which mysteriously has no shield unlike Crysis 1) they always get stuck looking for an alien that doesn't seem to exist, leaving me to fight the walker on my own :(
However, I'm sure they will use similar AI for allies as aliens (why should they make it different, except from that fact that they're on the other side), and I expect they will simply camp in different areas intelligently, using cover etc.

I believe you'll be by yourself more often than sticking with allies, I mean, look at Crysis, in most of the game, you were just 1 man.

Yup, Just one man, first person shoot, thats the whole point, for the most part, its up to you in any FPS, yea some support is a great addition, but If I wanted to start placing platoons and such like, then something like Mass Effect 2 would be more suited, or why not go over to totally strategic games like command and conquer, !!! me I jus wanna rip the **** outa anything that doesnt agree with my carma!!! ----Maximum Game On----

FPS aren't about you fighting alone against all. Think of COD, BF and MoH
FPS aren't about you fighting alone against all. Think of COD, BF and MoH
like I said earlier, some support is great, but look at crysis first guy gets hooked up in the trees, then " since wen did the koreans have themselves a mother of a freeze ray "( gone ) closely followed by sykes escortin the hostage, then Prohpet, taken for an anl probe or some such thing, well his wasnt working when he got back, hence the core of the game even with support is down to you.

Ally AI wasn't good in cry1. look back at the part where some US marines(I guess) were dropped on to the zone in cry1, they took a hell of a beating from the normal korean enemies. I do agree the fact that the nanosuit allies in warhead were pretty good compared to the rest. And as seen in videos, cry2 allies dont look very tough. But what the hell, since the whole "NY protection thing" rests on the N2, I dont really expect much from our allies!!! unless prophet decides to show up.

Now I've thought about what I've heard about the story-line, in the first half they think you're Alcatraz, then they realize you're not, and because you have a Nanosuit 2 when you shouldn't, your allies also turn on you. This means that you will enjoy a reasonable amount of backup at the start, then get left on your own for the rest of the game. I suppose it's a bit like how for the first half of Crysis 1 you're fighting Koreans, then it switches to aliens. They're trying to give their games as much variation as they can to keep them interesting.

There may be bots in Crysis 2's multiplayer because it is being done by Crytek UK, who included bots in almost all of their past multiplayer games.
If this happens then there could be some really high quality AI (both ally and enemy) in the game.

Well, Crysis 1 did start off with you and your team in the plane, but you all got split up after that. If that alien never got in the way of Nomad and the others, this game would of ended up being all about working together.

So it's like an alternative reality, what happened if Aztec or Jester never died? What about the first quick encounter with the scout from the sky?

It makes me wonder.

Im pretty sure that if the A.I. and the ragdolls are amazing and kick ass for the enemies, then so would the allies. Logic
