Guns n Roses, as well as Metallica. Never really got what people saw in those guys. Outside of that, I would have to say this Lady Gaga and Bieber craze that has been going around.

Agreed. This thread should be called, "Bands that are or have been popular in the past that I personally don't like," or alternatively, "My music taste is awesome and if you don't like the bands I do your music taste is bad."

I think people forget that good music can be over-rated.

I like U2, but they are over-rated by a looooong way.

Bach.

I don't even care to listen to his music that much, but having studied his music, I would have a hard time calling him overrated just because of the absolute mastery of detail in his music.

U2. About three good songs in 30+ years hardly merits their messianic treatment by Q, NME, Rolling Stone et al. It's not that they're even a bad band, just so... moribund.

I disagree, not because they are not over-rated, but come on, only 3 good songs? You must be kidding me, I'm not a big fan of theirs but they must have more than 20 good songs for sure. And Achtung Baby was huge!

I've seen U2 two years ago in Boston and have tickets again for Chicago this summer and can tell you this: I don't care how many gigs they sell or how many magazine appearances or how many grammy they grab, in the stadium they still put an amazing rock show, that's all that matters to me.

i feel that some take past bands popularity out of context.
some shouldnt bee seen as musicians alone, rather entertainers.

I call him overrated because I hate his music, and all my other friends that listen to classical and baroque music never stop talking about him.

Which is why threads like this one tend to be far from enlightening. It's impossible to judge whether or not a band is overrated, because ratings are subjective. It comes down to, "other people like this music, but I don't." That doesn't mean it's 'overrated.'

Back in the day it seemed like everyone was into them at least where I live, I couldnt stand it!!! Hated their music ><
I dont listen to crap they play on the radio anymore and havnt for some time. I use lastfm to find artists I like and if I like them I like them. No radio to shove crap into my brain forcing me to listen to the stuff they have on their limited playlists.

There is no such thing as "overrated" or "underrated". Just things you hate that others love, and things you love that others hate.
You're telling me that your personal opinion denotes that *insert band that you hate that 90% of the world loves* is "overrated/bad" simply because..you don't like them? Is your personal opinion that important, that it supersedes 90% of the world, thus making said band "overrated"? Lol?
I've not the faintest clue how you people take yourselves seriously.
Music is nothing more than personal opinion, sorry. Either you like it or you don't. Anything other "emotion" associated with the classification of musical taste is irrelevant.

Whats wrong with this? When 90% of people like something and someone doesnt, of course they are probably going to call it overrated, and others will agree. Yeah its opinion, but that doesnt make calling things 'underated' and 'overrated' meaninless, its just a way to express your personal opinion on said topic.

Almost everything comes down to personal opinion, you can make this argument with a lot of things especially morals and the existence of good and evil. But that doesnt make it wrong to call something good or evil.
