the best description ive seen is that its an interactive "book". and no, not all literature is art. this may indeed be art to some people but then again so was dipping a statue of the virgin mary in urin. most sane people dont look at that as art. i take the approach that the supreme court justice took with porm. "i cant put my finger on it but when i see it i know it."
the biggest thing for me is that if its something that prettty much anyone can do then its value as art is questionable. take a look at alot of modern art like throwing paint up in the air and letting a jet engine splatter it over a big canvas..............thats not art. that is something that i could do at an airport and it literally only takes seconds to do. even though picassos stuff looks goofy to me its something that most people wouldnt be able to emulate so i consider it art. its overrated in my view but i certainly couldnt do it.
the best art is art that tries to replicate real life which is why think davincies stuff was the best. his anatomy and engineering drawings were second to none.
i find that there is a parallel between paris fashion and alot of art. people make a big deal about those god awful garments (like the ones made out of garbage) of course you never see anyone wear have this stuff. all modern art and alot of modern fashion is a display in snobbery pure and simple. people say things or create things and tell snobs that its unique and that only people of their caliber could possibly understand it and that common people "dont get it". its nothing more than a con job to get stupid insecure people to pay thousands of dollars for an ugly dress (queue the dresses celebrities wear at awards shows) or modern art.
Must. Resist.
That is a very weak argument. So basically art is only what really talented people can make? Try telling that to a kid for starters. Tell him that the drawing he just did for you is just a bunch of talentless scribbles.
Art is/can be anything that any one person finds beautiful. A prime example of this is a piece of splintered wood I found in the wake of a tornado that passed near my house. Is it art? Not to you, to you it's just a stick. To me? It's an awe-inspiring reminder that nature is a very VERY scary thing. I also look of it, the way that one side is splintered and the other side is perfectly smooth, the bark stripped off of it by the wind.
The point is that art isn't just an object, or a picture. Rather, it's an idea. All art has some form of an idea behind it, it's just that some people either don't know how to recognize it or just don't care.
It's Da Vinci by the way.
Edit: And the best art being that which tries to replicate real life the best? If I want to look at something that resembles real life I'll just look in a mirror, or look outside for that matter. Art is a medium which is used to convey an
original idea. By that logic, the best fantasy stories are the ones which mimic Lord of the Rings the best.
Grrr. And I promised myself I wouldn't get riled up tonight. :toughninja:
