There are also games where you http://tale-of-tales.com/TheGraveyard/

Buying the full version of The Graveyard adds only one feature, the possibility of death. The full version of the game is exactly the same as the trial, except, every time you play she may die.

Different strokes for different folks.

Is this real?!?!?!

At last, the game I've been waiting for! For all these years I've been thinking, "Who needs games where you actually accomplish something? I mean, constructivity? What the hell does that mean?!"

This is what people like me were born to experience.

It actually seems really good to me. I've been thinking about picking it up.

I realize that it's not all that long or enthralling or anything, but there's just something about it that I find charming. :)

It's almost like a living painting, if you will. A fully interactive one.

I have to tentatively agree that this game of sorts has likewise piqued my interest. Thanks for pointing it out.

i remember that one........but at least you can move around and stuff. maybe someone can mod guns and put some AI bots in there or something. dinner date is just........WTF!

im actually thinking that someone made a bet with someone else.

game maker: "i bet i can make a game about anything and find people that will buy it, in fact i bet i can get an award for it at some indie festival. ill even let some random person pick the subject"

best buddy: "alright i bet you $20. go ask that guy over there"

game maker: "say there fella, how you would like to help me out with my new game."

random person at a diner: "huh.......what. i dont care about your stupid game i just got stood up by my date."

game maker: "perfect, thanks for the idea"

I think this is more of an artistic project, than a game.

More like an interactive painting as MorrowindFan said.

I saw a video of someone playing this. It's pretentious BS at it's worst. Not all original ideas are good ideas.

I wouldn't dismiss it off hand based on the concept. Some books are high fantasy, some books are low fantasy, some are trashy romances, some books are soft sci-fi, some hard, some are well researched thrillers, one is about a bloke adopting his aunt, some are thinly veiled gore-porm, some are deep stories about people changing the world, annnnddddd some are about 'little' people. Any of the aforementioned can be good or bad, depending on writer and reader.

Dear Esther is a highly regarded game which is somewhat related to this; it tell a man's story, gives an experience, and that is all. This one may not be as well executed, but it's chosen subject matter is not intrinsically worthless or boring.

If you want games to be accepted as art and as an integral part of culture, you have to accept that some of them are going to be about something other than winning or getting a high score. Games are as much about interactive storytelling as anything else, and this seems like an interesting application of the media to me.

AN ORIGINAL IDEA !
Well congrats to the game maker. He made a small game with something different for a change. Kinda reminds me in Heavy Rain when you could read the thoughts of the characters but the thoughts didn't add much to the game.

Lack of appreciation for abstract concepts.

I haven't seen anything about this game outside of the trailer linked, it might be terrible, but it's not an innately terrible idea like what the OP is suggesting.

I've played a game where you do two things: Walk around and walk into things. And that is literally the whole game. A bunch of nonsense is going on around you. And there's no ending. It's called LSD Dream Emulator and it's actually pretty artistic and quite a fun experience.

Seems interesting, and I support developers taking the risk to try something new regardless of whether the result is good or not, but I'd be hesitant to pay anything, even $5, for a 25-minute game.

I wouldn't say that this is a game. Neither is The Graveyard, or anything else from Tale of Tales, for that matter. Even the page doesn't declare it as one.
