Yes I do.
It ranks amount the ranks of "most useless and expensive RPG shop weapon".
Turn up your difficulty or tell me your magic recipe for killing a deathclaw with a single sneak attack critical with a varmint rifle. I actually hold with me a fully modded varmint rifle. I have better criticals and hollow points. Since sneak attacks ignore DT that's the best damage you can do with a varmint rifle. Compare that to a AMR. That's 360 damage on a sneak attack critical. Deathclaws go bye-bye.

Actually, I think Sneak only bypass DR and DT still in effect; but it is apply after critical (but not sneak bonus).

I think you can sneak kill a BLIND DeathClaw with Varmint Rifle; although I haven't try to use AP rounds yet.

I few come to mind.

Ballistic Fist - Unarmed is my fav weapon skill, and the ballistic fist is awesome to use. Every punch is accompanied by a loud bang, and often sends body parts flying. VATS is especially cool, performing an uppercut and watching their head fly into orbit!

Love and Hate - Just something badass about beating someone to bloody pulp with spiked brass knuckles!

Ranger Sequoia - Not only does the gun look cool with its black and gold, its very powerfull and can often kill enemies in 1-2 shots on very hard difficulty.

Whilst it isn't a very good gun, I have to say I love That-gun. It's just so cool, I love the way it just opens and closes itself as you use it and I love all the cool noises it makes.

Now, if only it could kill anything....

Turn up that difficulty, because if you can kill a Deathclaw with a varmint rifle sneak attack, your on easy at the least. I can't get one to half health with a trail carbine sneak attack on very hard.

And why should I do that? "Normal" is what the actual game is balanced around, and that is the setting I'm judging the mechanics, not on "bullet sponge mode".
And no, I wasn't implying a one hit kill, but you'll have it near death with a weapon made for rat hunting....
Anyway, what I wanted to say is not, that the Varmint rifle is overpowered, it is the actual concept of sneak attacks I was referring to, as well as the weakness of the AMR.
Go to the quarry, take the mighty AMR and land another headshot, AFTER your sneak attack.
Since you're playing on very hard, you should suffer even more under what I described before.
You might just throw the rifle at it, that should cause more damage...

@Thekettlison

Full ack on That Gun! I love this thing, never leave the house without it.
I'm also fine with its penetrating power. Sure, it is not a tool for Deathclaws or Sentry Bots, but it is handling most human enemies as well as lesser critters fine.
It is the only gunpowder based weapon I'm using once my EW skill is bumped up in 2nd half of the game.

So my favorite set up is the following:

AER14
RCW+
Gauss Rifle
That Gun

the most satisfying weapon is the 12.7mm pistol, because it's basically Deckard's pistol from Blade Runner. Now all I need is a trench coat and some replicants to shoot!

I forgot That Gun. Probably because it doesn't have as much punch in NV.

The AMR? Not useless for me. I don't use it all the time, but it sure as hell is handy when I find myself approaching Deathclaws.

I snipe DCs. Sneak crits. From far, far (really far) off. I'm talking the limits of draw distance. That means, for me, that the only acceptable weapon (ever since The Nerfing of The Sniper Rifle - which I qualify as an event [censored] enough that it deserves capitalization) is the AMR.

Sure, other weapons may be quite useful against DCs, but not when you engage them the way I do.

Fire axe, I just like the way it mauls everything.

AER14, great fun + green laz0r.

GMG, cazador limbs anyone?

Missile Launcher, *KABOOM!* "Holy [censored]!!!"

Pushy, I love the smell of flying Bighorners in the morning, they smell like.... Pushy.

Holorifle, *shoots* "Tsst... What kind of ridiculous "pew" was that?" *Shoots Ghost* "Oh... My... God..." *Finishes DM* *Goes to quarry junction* *shoots deathclaw* "...Awesome!"

Ah, fun weapons, don't really like Guns though.

[edit]

By the way.

Tri-Beam

It uses 3 MFC and shoots three beams, since 1 MFC>1 beam = -2DT does that mean that each beam from Tri-Beam do -2DT or is it -6DT?

I love That Gun. It's just that it kind of... well... it svcks compared to its legendary status in the originals. I love the reload noise, too.

Luckily, I can mod to make it more satisfying, with increased damage but lower rate of fire. I do not get why they didn't make it one of the best pistols in the game like it was before.

I think the damage of the beams are counted separately, so two. But that also means all of them can score a critical, meaning at max 3x critical damage :flamed:

If your character is built around critical hits, it actually sports a pretty good punch. If not, yeah, it is probably not that good.
Apart from that, more style than That Gun is hardly possible :D

@looloolooigotsomeapples

You mean shooting Enclave patrols in APA and Super Mutnats with it? Yeah, good times ^_^

My pic would have to be, Anti-Material Rifle for that feeling of Im going to own you so hard your wife will have to ask permission to mate. Gauss Rifle for its pure impact. And a pool cue for killing death claws. How many can say they have done that? XD

So shotgun with Shogun Surgeon net -70 DT?

Sure the sniper rifle is nerfed like a mile long train ran over it, but it is still more accurate than AMR (without match grade rounds).

And if you snipe from extreme ranges, like I said, could have use a Varmint Rifle with AP rounds.

The game is easy. The big weapons unbalance it. I don't use em'.

Ratslayer. Run yer luck up a bit and go critical.

10mm SMG. Cazador killer. +mag +recoil and HP ammo.

Pushy. For when it's up close and personal, with a couple of moves. It's pretty funny making them fly with the Ranger Take-down.

hardcoe, Very Hard although I'll go non hardcoe till my companion recovers from poison. A BUG. I give em' all anti venom.

Pistols: Mysterious Magnum -- not the best gun in the game, but purty as a picture and sings to boot

Rifles: This Machine -- my go-to weapon for most encounters (Brush Gun is more awesome, but it's overkill for a Fire Gecko, etc.)

Sniper Rifle: Anti-Materiel -- the main reason to push Guns to 100

SMGs: 10mm SMG -- not as good as the 12.7mm, but more available to low level characters and easier to find ammo

Shotguns: Riot shotgun -- closest thing to my FO3 go-to gun, the Combat shotgun

Heavy Weapons: CZ57 Avenger -- though reloading it svcks

Energy Pistol: Pulse gun -- one-shot kill bots, turrets, and most power armored dudes

Energy Rifle: YCS/186 -- love ka-ching sound it makes

Energy Heavy Weapons: Heavy Incinerator -- very underrated, what's better than fireballing dudes from medium range?

Explosives Projectile: Annabelle -- mostly for not needing to be repaired as often as a regular missile launcher

Explosives Placed: Plasma Mine -- C-4 is more useful, but the explosion for a plasma mine is more satisfying

Melee Bladed: Shiskabob -- fillet and roast at the same time

Melee Blunt: Nephi's Golf Driver - Fore!

Melee Thrown: Throwing spear -- plentiful and fun to chuck

Melee Unarmed: Pushy -- Gauss them up close and personal

Since you have 8 Hotkeys, this would be what I would use
1. (Assault Rifle). Light Machine Gun OR Automatic Rifle if you have dead money.
3. (Sniper Rifle) Anti-Materiel Rifle. That thing just raqes everything from like a mile away
4. (Shotgun) Riot Shotgun. It is really satisfying to unload an entire clip of lethal shotgun shells on the poor person who decided to attack you.
5. Tri-Beam Laser Rifle. It just raqes. 'Nuff said
6. Euclid's C Finder. BOOOOOOOOOOOM
7. Ranger Sequoia. That pistol can easily kill an entire group of deathclaws without breaking a sweat.
