what plot twist surprised you most while playing a game?

for me, i gotta go with a scene from Final Fantasy 7 where:

Spoiler
Aeris (aka Aerith) Dies...first time playing that part of the game i just went "WTF?! okay, it must of been a double or something.. right? they can't kill off my only healer!"

what plot twist in gaming surprised you the most?

I'm sure I can think of a much better one, but right now the only one I can think of right away is in Neverwinter Nights:

Spoiler
Where it turns out that the Princess Aribeth was working with the big bad because of "reasons"(I can't quite remember, it's been a loooonnggg time). Given how fanatical she seemed to be against evil in all it's forms, and how "FOR JUSTICE" she is, I didn't particularly see it coming.

I would say in Jade Empire where... Wait, is this whole thread just going to be everyone posting their first Bioware game?

Hmm, not sure, but when it comes to the Bethesda games I think the best plot twist was 铆n the DLC The Pitt for Fallout 3.

I have to say the original Deus Ex. No need for a spoiler tag, those of you who麓ve played it knows what I麓m talking about :)

Bioshock
Spoiler
Absolutely ingenious twist, the character is a slave, created to do the bidding of one man and controlled by a phrase. Will never forget the moment where you finally confront Andrew Ryan.

In Super Mario Bros., the princess...

Spoiler
...was in another castle the whole time! That twist was so effective, that they used it seven times, and I fell for every instance of it.

Okay, perhaps a more serious twist would be Shadowrun: Dragonfall.

Spoiler
Turns out your enemy was not Feuerschwinge as you were led to believe, but the guy you were looking for the whole time, Adrian Vauclair. At first it seemed like an anticlimix that your crew was just dealing with a regular conspiracy rather than a dragon cult...but once you finally come face to face with him, you get another twist when the dragon is revealed to have a place in the plot after all, and in a most unexpected way.

Yes, Dragonfall plot had a good one.

But is it really a plot twist anymore that the obvious bad guy isn't the true bad guy? :hehe:

Edit: and also yes to the below too, he turned out to be surprisingly intelligent and deep villain, instead of just being a "Durr, i'm a dragon!"

Most recently to recollection was Yakuza 4 because that game was pretty much PlotTwistception the Game.

Dragon's Dogma also had a pretty interesting plot twist:

Spoiler
I hadn't expected the Dragon to be anything more than a two dimensional cardboard cut out enemy to fight and save the land against. I wasn't expecting defeating him to lead to the collapse of the major settlement and the road to becoming Seneschal of the World.

I have to agree with those who said KotoR, looking back it's not the best hidden plot twist, but during my first playthrough of the game it blew my mind.

Also, I don't know if it's much of a Plot twist, but

Spoiler

The Neverhood - when you keep the crown and suddenly turn evil :D That really surprised me when I was a child.

Certainly was an annoying twist at the end of Divinity II:Ego Draconis, when you find out

Spoiler
...that instead of saving the world, you've been tricked into releasing the Big Bad, who seals you in a crystal prison where you watch as the Evil Army sets off to conquer the world.
