Most of TES fans really on Console?

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 11:16 am

Yes there are more console players, not everybody likes to build and upgrade their new computer yearly.

So, why does it matter anyway?

I just built my new one. my other comp is 5 years old. absolutely no need to upgrade every year.

Thats crazy.... The Oblivion community was HUGE, and thats only 10%? If they give modding to consoles, they're essentially giving modders a 10x boost in audience to play their mods. That would be incredibly awesome of BGS!

PC has already been confirmed to have it's own UI. Now tear your hand off your face.

Also why they may not use that many DX11 features. But on the other hand, using more DX features on the PC and then show off the PC on trailers and such (thus making the game look better) would be better for marketing. Graphics sell.

Less than 15% of pc users have DX11 level cards, why bother for a few% of the market.

Take into consideration that Oblivion sold over 4 million copies. If 10% of those copies were PC versions, then over 400,000 PC versions would have been sold. That large number of potential modders over the course of five years could definitely result in quite a few mods.

That's really sad, honestly. And I mean sad for the console players. I can't imagine Oblivion without mods. I mean, it's definitely a fantastic game on its own, but mods just add so much, and the consoles get so little by comparison. Honestly, it's worth paying for a nice PC if you're a hardcoe TES fan. I've put over 1000 hours into Morrowind and Oblivion combined over the years, and that's largely due to mods. I'd say it's worth it.

Todd is very pro-console, he even confirmed that the 360 is his system of choice. The vibe I get from Bethesda is, "We're trying to make both PC and Console equal." But I can't help but feel that PC gamers are coming up short.

How is pc coming up short, pc gets mods.

Crysis sold nearly 4 million, there is no way Oblivion only sold 500k on PC.

Todd, link me some numbers bro.

Yeah definitely, Consoles are just way more mainstream/cheaper. The most hardcoe fans are on the PC though...

I'm a really hardcoe fan on the console... so maybe I'm an anomaly

well then, i am an anomaly too

This, especially when it's 15% of 10%. I've got a DX11 card, but my system is no-where near powerful enough that I'd expect to be able to use any of the DX11 features they could include (I have a laptop). Now I'm not saying that because I can't have it no-one should, it would be nice if the option was there, but I'm trying to get across that not everyone with a DX11 card will necessarily have the system to run advanced DX11 features (which are presumably the ones they aren't including).

You have to remember that TES really started becoming "main stream" with the release of Morrowind (GotY in 2002) on the original Xbox. Oblivion furthered this trend by being an even greater hit than Morrowind (GotY in 2006) on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Skyrim will likely continue the trend and be the most successful TES game to date (adding an even larger player base, most of which is on Xbox 360 and PS3). The PC community for this game has likely stayed relatively constant, more or less explaining why it is such a small percentage of the total fan base.

Welcome in the pc players universe where people pirates their game and because of that developers decide to favor console players. PC Players made this problem and now they complain about it.

Same here apparently. I play on PS3, that means I'm not a hardcoe TES fan? What a joke..

What console/PC you play on has nothing to do with your love for Bethesda or anything for that matter. It just means you prefer one over the other, thats it.

I originally had Oblivion on Xbox 360, but as soon as I built a new PC last year I got it for PC and it's been even more fun on PC. I eventually sold my 360 and got a PS3 instead because vanilla Oblivion felt so empty after playing with mods on the PC.

I can believe that most players are console players because it's much cheaper to get a new console than a new PC, I myself mostly got a new PC because I was going to be starting college soon as well and the PC I was using was nearly 5 years old. XP

I don't see BSG favoring consoles, rather just not doing tons of extras for pc. Creation Kit is gonna rock.

Also the 10% figure is hogwash the more i research.

When it comes down to the bottom line, being a self-proclaimed "hardcoe" gamer or a "casual" gamer is meaningless. The game still costs the same.

And that's all Todd and Beth are really in this for..the bottom line that is.

Yeah, we really are missing out--that's why I'd like to get on PC, and just keep console for those times I can't play on the PC. I have been dying to try the mods I've been hearing about, and I can certainly understand why PC players like it so much better. But at the same time, console is good enough for me, because I think TES is awesome even without the mods. To me, I win no matter what, as long as I can play it... :tes:

Piracy is just as bad on console. PC is just a smaller minority because they are more expensive, and consoles are made accessible for the masses.

i have the game on both pc and 360 and i still prefer the feel on xbox 360. like pete hines said when he comes back home after working in front of a computer all day he wants to get on his couch and play with a controler. now you will use the argument that you can plug a controler in your pc. well i tried it and it works like [censored] [censored]. you still have to use the mouse menus. and the controls are [censored] bad its damn hard to move around and keep in mind that it was a usb 360 controller. this argument is invalid it doesnt work well at all

@Redguard King you are totally wrong I saw an interview with a producer on assassin's creed and he said that they know FOR SURE that 90% of the people who played assassin's creed on PC pirated it. its not as bad its way worse on the PC. consoles are not as bad at all.

The games actually cheaper on the PC, if that's what price you were referring to (not the price of making the game)

I'm sure PS3 and 360 players also pirate games and I'm sure that those complaining about the problems caused by piracy are typically not the ones doing the pirating. PC players are not pirates. Some are, but PC players, as whole, most certainly are not and the same is true with the 360 and the PS3. There are, however, significantly larger potential fanbases for both consoles than there is for the PC and so of course developers are going to focus on where the money is. Then, one also has to take into consideration the many PC players without exceptional gaming machines, as well, when specifically complaining about hardware limitations.

I wonder if the pc sales numbers include the games bundled with video cards (I thank God for the day when I opened my video card box and found Morrowind inside, that changed my gaming perspective forever) or the games released in budget collections. Those are available for very cheap prices in hypermarkets, I bought Morrowind goty for no more than $4, those copies could boost the sales greatly if counted.

That what I thought. I don't care about graphics (which can be improved with mods anyway) I care about mods thats why I'll be playing on PC.
