Most of TES fans really on Console?

Post » Mon May 02, 2011 9:58 pm

I have a 360 but I always purchase consoles a few years after they come out. I'm going to get Skyrim for both 360 and PC. MW I first played on console, but purchased for XBox and PC, OB was just PC (since I didn't have a 360 at the time), but Skyrim will be for the 360 until I upgrade my pc, then it's both.

Elder Scrolls is always best on PC, but way more people have consoles. I just hope they (BGS) don't ever forget about their PC roots and keep the PC fans happy :). I know I have been happy with all of their games, but I hope in the future that's the case too. (I know it will be for Skyrim). Basically PC > consoles when it comes to TES, but consoles > PC when it comes to cost.

I'd recommend if you have a 360 and a pc you can upgrade; get Skyrim for the 360 first, then upgrade the PC and get basically a second game a year down the road with higher res texture mods etc.

It will be great.

Me personally, CE for 360 and GOTY for PC down the road. Can't wait to have my mind blown twice.

i have the game on both pc and 360 and i still prefer the feel on xbox 360. like pete hines said when he comes back home after working in front of a computer all day he wants to get on his couch and play with a controler. now you will use the argument that you can plug a controler in your pc. well i tried it and it works like [censored] [censored]. you still have to use the mouse menus. and the controls are [censored] bad its damn hard to move around and keep in mind that it was a usb 360 controller. this argument is invalid it doesnt work well at all

Keep in mind that 360 controller compatibility was still sub-standard on PC back then (the 360 just came out). Now, practically any multi-platform game that is on PC allows the 360 controller compatibility, and it's exactly the same as the console scheme.

Piracy is more convenient on a PC as the person is more accessible to do it. That doesn't change the fact that Microsoft and Sony are constantly battling hackers and modders to keep from ruining their business.

I'm sure PS3 and 360 players also pirate games and I'm sure that those complaining about the problems caused by piracy are typically not the ones doing the pirating. PC players are not pirates. Some are, but PC players, as whole, most certainly are not and the same is true with the 360 and the PS3. There are, however, significantly larger potential fanbases for both consoles than there is on the PC and so of course developers are going to focus on where the money is. Then, one also has to take into consideration the many PC players without exceptional gaming machines, as well, when specifically complaining about hardware limitations.

re read my previous post.

@redguard king i only bought the game on PC last year.

It's actually $1 more on Amazon. I don't know about everywhere else.

In the UK on Amazon it's a £12 difference between the PC and console versions. Gutted for you guys :P

possibility of bringing modding to the Xbox 360 and PS3.

That is not even a possibility. So Many disastrous results can and most certainly happen.
And only 10% seems to low...

I highly, highly doubt the 10% figure. I assume that it was a figure of speech type of exaggeration. I suspect it's closer to 1/4 or 1/3.

Yes, and Oblivion came out in 2006. BGS has since then moved on to Fallout 3 (of which I have heard there are no control issues) and Skyrim.

@Seti18 - Are PS3 controllers even compatible? Somehow, I seriously doubt it as Microsoft would probably not allow it. The only reason the 360 controller is compatible is because Microsoft more or less controls PC gaming, and clearly controls the Xbox 360. Sorry, bro. You are just out of luck in that department.

I've had 4 copies of Oblivion :P. Bought on 360, then PS3, then sold my 360, got a PC, bought it with a disc, lost the SI part of the GotY version I bought so I ended up just getting it again on Steam in the Christmas sales :P

The games actually cheaper on the PC, if that's what price you were referring to (not the price of making the game)

Is it cheaper on PC? Amazon lists it at the same price. Honestly, I wouldn't know.

http://www.amazon.com/Elder-Scrolls-V-Skyrim-Pc/dp/B004HYIAPM

In any case, if Oblivion was cheaper on PC then that could be what is throwing everyone off on Todd's comments. He could be referring to 10% of total sales, not total units sold...

In the case of DA2, a comparable high profile fantasy RPG released on all 3 platforms simultaneously during 2011, completely excluding digital downloads, the PC boxed version sales were almost equal to the PS3 sales (about 40% of the total Xbox sales, or around 20-25% of the total sales).

First 4 weeks DA2 Sales by Platform
Xbox 650k
PS3 305k
PC 235k (boxed version, does not include digital downloads)

Not really any way to estimate the PC digital download sales, but if you add them to the boxed version sales, unless there are less than 70k downloads (highly unlikely), then the total PC sales for DA2 (including digital) should be higher than the PS3 sales.

I would be surprised if the Skyrim PC sales end up being less than 15-20% of the total.,

The fact that Bethesda has always supported the modding community and plans to release the Creation Kit on 11.11.11 or soon thereafter, says quite a bit. And regardless of how the sales breaks down by platfrom, judging from what I've seen of gameplay footage, this game itself is going to blow us away on PC!

And future PC mods for Skyrim are going to take us to a whole new level.

I would get it on the PC if I could. I have way too many expenses and can't afford a gaming computer. I can run Oblivion but it looks barely better than Morrowind on release day.

The consoles are just easier. You buy the system and you're done. With the PC, there's a LOT more to it, and it's not as worth it to me because PC gaming is starting to fall behind console gaming.

For those who have not played modded Oblivion but want to.
go buy an old $200 used computer. Heck I will sell you mine. it only has a pentium 4, 2 gigs of RAM, and a 9800gt, and I can run all sorts of great Oblivion mods.

im the ultimate PC fanperson, but 10% does actually make sense to me. remember when oblivion was launched the consoles had just been released and they were more powerful than most PCs at the time. so if you were going for graphics and performance you would choose the consoles. people wanted a shiny new TES game with their shiny new xbox. simple as that.

you cant really blame piracy cause most of those people would simply have never bought the game to begin with.

i guarantee this time around it will be different. first of all, midlevel PCs are significantly more powerful than the consoles and more affordable than ever before. secondly, morrowind moddability was only really popular among PC users since the console ports were horrific at best. oblivion was well known on all platforms including the modding factor. after checking out the mods that came out for free and can literally transform the game into whatever you want to be, even alot of hardcoe consolers are going to want to use the PC version. i see a minimum of a doubling of PC sales and that is my conservative estimate. my optimistic estimate is that 25% of sales will be for PC but that might be shooting a bit high. a bit of anecdotal evidence..........every single person i know that is looking forward to skyrim who has a gaming PC along with their console is getting it for PC after i showed them the mods.

if people really want to help PC sales then start posting more youtube videos about their modded game, that is the best sales pitch you could possible make. :)

To be fair it could just be that the console versions across the pond are £12 cheaper than they are here, bringing it inline with the PC version?? I haven't done the math. Either way, pretty much every single multi-platform game is around £10 cheaper on PC over here.

How is pc coming up short, pc gets mods.

Yes, by third-parties. I'm talking about love from developers. So far every trailer and screenshot of Battlefield 3 has been of the PC Version, DICE have said that the game is developed for the PC first and as a PC gamer this is nice to hear, away from the whole "PC gaming is dying" and console-exclusives DLC and such.

I find that having to rely on mods as our excuse all the time isn't a strong defence as we actually think it is.

Crysis was PC exclusive. Anyone who wanted it had to buy it for PC. That's not the case for Oblivion. Comparing the two and their PC sales is misleading.
