Most of TES fans really on Console?

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 9:07 am

Yes, by third-parties. I'm talking about love from developers. So far every trailer and screenshot of Battlefield 3 has been of the PC Version, DICE have said that the game is developed for the PC first and as a PC gamer this is nice to hear, away from the whole "PC gaming is dying" and console-exclusives DLC and such.

I find that most having to rely on mods as our excuse all the time isn't a strong defence as we actually think it is.

But that's DICE. Bethesda show us love by releasing the CS/CK.

Crysis was PC exclusive. Anyone who wanted it had to buy it for PC. That's not the case for Oblivion. Comparing the two and their PC sales is misleading.

" NPD reports that Oblivion represented approximately 13% of all PC game sales in the first week of its release, more than four times the sales volume of the next best selling title. (The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, the highly-regarded predecessor to Oblivion, remains one of the top 25 best selling PC games nearly four years after its release, according to NPD). "

Theres no way its only 500k. I knew that number was unbelievably low.

I'm assuming the purchase of a Sony computer does little to remedy the problem. Is that correct?

That is correct, but with my VAIO I can use it as a remote keyboard for the PS3. Why I would want to do that when I basically have a PS3 built into my laptop, bar the exclusives, but including the blu-ray, on my laptop, is beyond me.

PS3 controllers aren't officially supported, but by jumping through hoops with several 3rd party drivers you can (just about) get a PS3 console to work on a PC.

Edit: :Bodycool, you can't come to any conclusion from that data. How many PC games are bought a week?? (or were in 2006 anyway).

Is this actually Surprising to anyone?
Xbox 360 costs $200 - Just a tad more affordable.

They costed nearly as much as a appropriate computer to play the same game at around what 500$ at the time of release?
no

And should Bethesda decide not to release a construction set by the time of TES: VI? What if they decide to pull a BioWare on us, "Dragon Age sold more units on Console and the Modding tools are too difficult to handle, so we got rid of that."

I don't see BSG favoring consoles, rather just not doing tons of extras for pc. Creation Kit is gonna rock.

Also the 10% figure is hogwash the more i research.

I have read around 20% for FO3 pc is a minority, DX11 a very small minority.

While I know this is a statistic about TES, its ineitable to reflect on how the greedy computer hardware manufacturing economy is destroying itself as a mass market. Paying 3,000 bucks for a gaming machine is ridiculous.

Anyone who thinks piracy is not hurting pc gaming or that the levels are similar to consoles needs to go to tweakguides(.com I think) and read the article about piracy its a big deal on pc, not nearly so much on the other systems. Devs are very concerned about it.

the 10% part ya thats totally wrong. Any websites you find are also wrong in terms of sales due to most of em track Retail only. After Oblivion and Fallout 3 came out in the beth bundle pack on Steam Im sure it rose about 10-20% from where it was <_<

other topic

Pirating is a issue but it does effect all platforms, not just PC. Crysis is the most pirated game there is and it sold well enough for Crytek to make a huge profit off it.

I believe Todd is biased toward consoles. It's astonishing how much he downplays the PC version.

Crysis 2 pc sales might be more indicative of the general trend.

My husband and I are predominantly console players, so yes, I can believe it. however, we are well aware that we are missing out on a lot of awesome mods, and we would like to get TES on PC as well as console. :D

PC gaming is not just about mods, it's much more than that.

And I really doubt most of those "audience" are on consoles. Nevertheless this just held me back, I was planning on buying Skyrim day one, but since I heard the UI and many other stuff won't be coming to PC then I'll guess I'll hold on.

the game was horrible for pc gamers though, dumbed down and hated.

Now go look at a game that pc guys kinda like, such as BC2. Most sales on PC.

550k is still too low.

14%, would have been closer to 20 if not for pirates probably.

"Dumbed-down"? How? I've never played either Crysis on any platform, but I'm pretty sure 2 was not "dumbed-down".
