Most of TES fans really on Console?

Is this accurate? Does anyone have the links to full Oblivion sales records? Were 10% of the sales only on pc..? That seems rather low even for TES.

Not a console war or bashfest, rather an information inquery. I have no opinion on the matter.

>> According to VGcharts, PS3 and xbox360 Oblivion sold 5.5 million total. That means PC only sold 550k? I'm sure it is alot more than that..

Update

" NPD reports that Oblivion represented approximately 13% of all PC game sales in the first week of its release, more than four times the sales volume of the next best selling title. (The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, the highly-regarded predecessor to Oblivion, remains one of the top 25 best selling PC games nearly four years after its release, according to NPD). "

It is impossible that the game only sold 550k on PC.

I'd say it's fairly accurate, yes. I think Todd Howard himself said it, and it certainly helps explain why they didn't think it was worth a new UI for just 10%.

Check on the Beth Blog, they have all the links to the interviews there, so it will be found there. There was also another topic around here that linked it to two places.

Yeah definitely, Consoles are just way more mainstream/cheaper. The most hardcoe fans are on the PC though...

I'm a really hardcoe fan on the console... so maybe I'm an anomaly

Also why they may not use that many DX11 features. But on the other hand, using more DX features on the PC and then show off the PC on trailers and such (thus making the game look better) would be better for marketing. Graphics sell.

Who really cares if most of the TES fans are on the console? As long as they are a fan who really cares? I mean if I could afford a PC that can play Skyrim I would buy it right away.

I feel a Jon Kyl statement coming on. jk lol.

However I think 90% is a little high. Console definitely makes a very large part of the current fan base but I would think it would be closer to 80% if anything. Remember that there are several people that take their friends copy and then uses a CD crack and then they boast about it on a forum, way to get yourself lined up for a lawsuit . So piracy skews the true number, so like I said, I think it's more around 80%.

PC has already been confirmed to have it's own UI. Now tear your hand off your face.

I use my ps3 only because I'm realistic and know that I personally will never be able to afford a good gaming computer. My current computer is barely alive as it is, and I still try to play games like the witcher, and breach, and such things.

Valve (one of the companies the article used as an example of successful PC developers) puts forth some effort to make sure their engines are optimized for PCs as well as consoles. Oblivion, on the other hand, was a real snail on PC. Very poorly optimized, evident in the fact that modders have made texture replacers that look twice as good with no performance impact. Modders as still looking for ways to get around the engine's limitations and allow it to play to its full potential, five years after release. As far as I know it doesn't even make use of more than one processor core.

Todd claims that they're developing for the consoles because that's where the fans are. I think the fans are on consoles because Bethesda won't develop for the PC. Here's to hoping they put in more effort with Skyrim than they did with Oblivion.

My husband and I are predominantly console players, so yes, I can believe it. however, we are well aware that we are missing out on a lot of awesome mods, and we would like to get TES on PC as well as console. :D

Todd's figure may be a bit off (+/-5%), but certainly more accurate than any speculation you'd find from forum users here...

No intention to start a console war, but it's just common sense that the vast majority of sales would be on consoles

1. I will direct you to my Sig, regardless of his position

2. i wil say RAI, that is all.

3. Oblivion sold 5 million copies to date, their are 130,000 memebers on this forum, of which not all are for the elderscrolls.

your telling me only 500,000 players in all the world play Oblivion for PC....

mmk

No, it's been confirmed it's not the same, but I meant that it makes sense why they didn't bother with a separate UI for the PC when they made Oblivion, if they only thought 10% of the people were going to be it. This is from a business perspective.

EDIT: @Omega, I don't really understand what you're trying to say??

Are you implying that because Todd Howard quoted 10% for PC it must be wrong?? I'm not sure what you're getting at :S. Also, how does RAI come into this thread??

Todd is very pro-console, he even confirmed that the 360 is his system of choice. The vibe I get from Bethesda is, "We're trying to make both PC and Console equal." But I can't help but feel that PC gamers are coming up short.

Yes there are more console players, not everybody likes to build and upgrade their new computer yearly.

So, why does it matter anyway?

Yeah, really. Who cares if other people aren't on the same console as you? Do you really need that much assurance? I like 360 because it's what I'm used to, but some people can't stand the 360. Think I care that they don't like it? No, I couldn't care less. Now, that said, it makes sense that more TES fans are on console than PC because of the different consoles that are available. PC is only one of three choices, so it's not likely to be more common than 360 and PS3...

They are coming up short in a graphical sense, thats it. Skyrim is using some DX11, but not all of the features they could. The PC version will still look better, and thats pretty much the only difference between the two besides UI.

I told you its a simpal factual inquery. the 10% figure doesn't add up at all.

And stop trying to start a console-war, noone has to upgrade yearly...lies like that will mess my thread up.

Please stop spreading lies. You don't have to upgrade your computer to keep up with games, especially when most are still developed for 6 year old hardware

I suppose the fact that there are TWO consoleS getting Skyrim while there is only one PC version wasn't apparent, in addition to the mentioned cheaper cost of consoles.
