Most useless or Best Perk

Post » Sat Aug 29, 2009 11:29 am

I have to disagree with the cowboy perk, as I'm a little disappointed with just how powerful all the very old style weapons are already.
Your disagreement with the Cowboy Perk, I disagree, you don't understand, its not the type of weapon, its just the weapon, Brush Gun, 78 DAM raised to 98 DAM, makes the DPS 271.

As for the shotgun perk, how is the person who stated it doing so well with shotguns already anyway? I've found all of them to be very poor at killing, and weak...
Do you use the Hunting Shotgun? and the perk And Stay Back? Is your guns skill 75 over? Is your strength high enough?
Cuz if you don't have And Stay Back then stay back from the Shotgun Surgeon (Person and Perk)

to get and stay back you have to get dead money....(assuming he has it)

Who is he in your sentence, me or the guy I replied to? Because And Stay Back, Shotgun Surgeon, and Hunting Shotgun+ is a killer combo. I took out all Legion in Cottonwood Cove and the Fort with the Hunting Shotgun+ and the perks.

my favourite perk is jury rigger. repairing anti material rifles with varmint rifles sounds pretty good to me :disguise:

my most worthless perk is run and gun, if something gets close enough to me that i have to run backwards, its probably close enough for me not to miss.

I read Miss Fortune was bugged so I never use her.

I think people expect Miss Fortune to kill a single target outright (like Mysterious Stranger), but she actually does something pretty different.

When Miss Fortune shoots a target, it casts an AoE on that target that can also hit a lot of other nearby hostiles. The effects range from knockdown to crippled limbs to blowing up explosives or Flamers in the hands of enemies. As such she's more useful against groups of enemies than single foes. She'll screw up a whole pack of Vipers with one appearance.

Worst would be Friend of the Night, its bright enough already.

Depend on http://tangentgirls.com/gallery/d/13671-1/ScreenShot14.jpg, your nights are. :P

Indeed, can also make for some loltastic screenshots like http://tangentgirls.com/gallery/d/13841-1/enb2011_2_9_18_25_59.jpg

Best: Pack Rat in my latest run is awesome.
Worst: Never used Retention, or Swift learner. Even though in the originals I always got Swift learner and comprehension ASAP. You level too quickly in the latest games for them to be viable.

The Explorer perk is my favorite.
It's fun to find new places.

(some times)

The explorer perk makes finding new places impossible. They are on the map. Already found for you.

Most useful (as in handy): Jury Rigging period.
Least useful: Infiltrator/Computer Whiz and Swift Learning. We have quicksave/load and abundant experience to be had.

Not really. It's useful for armor but that's it. Weapon repair kits are very easy to make with 50 repair. I can fix all my guns up to new quite cheaply. As you can use comprehension and a fix book to get 50 very early on it's useful the whole game.

Robotics Expert is useless in New Vegas. There are robots where, exactly?
Spoiler
The Strip, H&H tools, Repconn HQ and at the crashed Vertibird, where they are actually dangerous :o

Terrifying Presence, its skill requirement is 70 speech, and if you have 70 speech, then Terrifying Presence is kind of sort of kinda useless

but still awesome

Don't know about best or worst, but Super Slam combined with Bloody Mess is pretty comical.

Hard to pick a favorite, but there are a few that I nearly always use. Commando, for instance, since a rifle is always my primary distance weapon. I also like Slayer for up close and personal work. Pair this perk with high Unarmed and a Ballistic Fist, and you are death incarnate. Action Boy and Grim Reaper's Sprint are also favorites, despite being noticably weaker since F3. And I disagree about Entomologist, those freaking Cazadores are a nightmare, and anything that will allow you to kill them more efficiently is a good thing.

I don't see much use in Lady Killer or Cherchez la Femme, since most enemies are male. I never use Cannibal or Ghastly Scavenger, they're just too creepy and a Sunset Sasparilla wuill restore HP far less disgustingly than ingesting a corpse (and without risk of attack). And the Infiltrator and Computer Whiz are a waste. Finally, I rarely use chems so I rarely get addicted, but even if I did, reversing addiction is only 100 caps or so, so no need to waste a perk on Chem resistant.

Best: gunslinger (with project Nevada mod). I love my pistols/revolvers :D
Worst: swift learner and here and now. For previously stated reasons

Must haves for me:

Comprehension, Travel Light, Finesse, Better Criticals, Chemist, Laser Commander

Travel Light is probably my favorite. You spend so much time running around, that running quicker is a blessing.

Most useless:

All the progression and skill point enhancing perks:

Swift Learner, Here and Now, Tag!

I've never reached the level cap in New Vegas actually, so i have taken Here and Now once or twice

Should proably add some of the enemy/location adding mods sometime soon...

Since it's useful for armor, it's not exactly useless. Also, just because you don't find something useful doesn't mean everybody else feels the same way.

For me:

Most: Friend of the Night
Least: Here and Now

While it's useful for you doesn't mean it's useful for him.
It's useless to him because it ruins the fun of exploration for him.

it dose not show up all locations like caves and gold mines and other things

Best: Solar powered & Jury rigged, get better during the day and repair things with other things.

Worst: Explorer, thought it was a good idea but actually takes all the surprises out of exploring + it covers your PB map with undiscovered locations.

I did not say it was useless. I was just pointing out 'jury rigging' is not as powerful a perk as some think.

That may be useful to some people, who don't want to spend 40 repair points on a moderately useful perk.

Another perk I just don't get is "Terrifying Presence". Aside from getting Jean-Baptiste to leave Cass alone, does it really do anything?

FONV and FO3:

Best: Educated

Hard to beat +2 skill points/level for utility and versatility, regardless of play style or character type.

Worst: Computer Whiz/Infiltrator

Totally useless, unless you are Quick Save impaired.

I would agree with that. I always have a ton of weapon repair kits, so it is not that great. Useful for armor, but that is about it.

For me the most worthless is computer wiz/infilator. Since I use a mod that skips those crappy minigames.
