most you have ever spent on a single game?

Post » Mon Jun 09, 2014 11:43 pm

just wondering how many others here spend ridiculous amounts of cash to get ahold of games they wish to play..

when my Skies of Arcadia disc bit the dust a few years back, I ordered another copy for $385..
no joke, copies of that game are Collectors items (and rightfully so, best JRPG ever).. it was actually one of the cheaper auctions for a copy of it on EBay at the time.. I have seen them sell for over $500 in the past..
SEGA would make such a huge pile of cash for porting that and..

but I digress,

what is the most money you have ever paid for a Single Video game?

(buying a recollection with multiple games in the case, or getting a discount for buying in bulk does not count)

$60 for Assassin's Creed IV the day after release. I'd been waiting years for a pirate action game, so I hit that damn Walmart up.

$120 for Fallout 3, back when Australian game prices were even more ridiculous than they are now.

It was just the standard version as well...

So far, just 60 dollars. I would never pay a crazy amount of money on a game unless that price actually matched any of its value. 60 is my threshold. Pretty much gave up on the Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection the minute it went above 60 dollars. I technically kind of collect and most collectors will tell you they look for the best deals. I've seen refurbishing Amazon sellers selling a game for well above what it is worth. These people might be pushing Nier's price up considering this very game was 20 dollars until Drakengard 3 was nearing release.

I guess the fact that people were buying that in droves is why. It's only the PS3 version, though. You can get the 360 version quite cheap still. Checking the used offers right now. The highest priced one is at a quality below like new. The game is $361 for a game of a very good condition as opposed to like new. You can usually tell those sellers are probably just refurbishing. Too bad some dimwit will think the highest price could be the true price for the game used. Only way this offer's possible to justify is that it's an import.

Nier might end up getting mentioned here in a month or so. Or if I get a game with a video card, I might jokingly say I got that for 300 something dollars.

The most I ever spent was back in the days of the NES and SNES, some SNES games went for as high as $100 in the stores, and I'm sure my parents paid that for a few of mine. As far as me personally, standard purchase price of 50-60 and no more.

However, I have sold a game for more, I recently(as in...about 5 months ago? maybe 6?) sold my Earthbound for the SNES, complete with box and manual, for $450. ^^ I've seen them go for as high as $700, but those are generally in absolutely perfect mint condition, including the scratch n sniff page being unscratched. My box was bent and scuffed pretty badly, and book had a few bent pages(well, the corners).

Wanted to quickly ask, for the Dreamcast? If so, don't look at Ebay now, or you might cry. There is a buy it now auction up right this very moment for $53.00 Actually, just saw multiple others, all in the $50-$60 range. If it's for the gamecube, it's roughly the same price for Buy It Nows. Checking the completed listings for both indicates prices as low as $5-$15 regularly(all of it, games, manuals, box).

Yep! It is my dream to someday stumble onto a sealed copy at someones garage sale around here, and them selling it for like $10 or something. I'd have that thing bought and home and listed on Ebay so fast it'd make anyone's head spin! LOL

I subscribed to WoW for like 7 years, so probably that.

Also, apparently I need to look into selling my copy of Skies of Arcadia :P. Its a good game, but I don't even have a system to play it anymore. I still have the manual and everything.

They never were sealed  I do remember them going for $15 at walmart though. Another thing to look out for are labeless atari carts which may contain Pepsi Invaders

Don't bother. If you check out my post right above mine, you'll see it doesn't sell for squat anymore.

By sealed, it generally(but not always) refers to just being unopened, which you can generally tell by whether or not part of the box has been peeled away by lifting up the tape that would be brung across the box. If the tape is still there, and it looks as though no box has been peeled off, it's considered "sealed". I know some games actually came in shrink wrap though, and you can tell if it's the original shrink wrap some way or another(don't ask me how, I have no clue). I've seen copies of Chrono Trigger sell for $1k+ in that condition.

I'd probably say Morrowind.

The xbox version had a notorious dirty disc issue that lead me to burn through 3 or 4 copies. After that, The GOTY edition was released and after that I had purchased it for PC.

I remember the kickstarters now... So $180 for Pillars of Eternity

Another game to look out for is Stadium Events which I remember one being found at a Goodwill for $4~ and being sold for $40k?

All I found at goodwill yesterday was Resident Evil, Resident Evil II and Broken Helix for $6

Hmm, that's for multiple copies of the same game though, which I don't really think is what the OP was going for. I've done the same thing myself though. I have MOrrowind, Tribunal & Bloodmoon, all original, but my original MOrrowind disc I lent to a friend who returned it to me cracked in half >< So I bought the GOTY. Then that one got chipped and scratched after lending it to a different friend. So I bought GOTY again.

Then I've bought Neverwinter Nights, Shadows of Undertide & Hordes of the Underdark, but still ended up buying the Diamond Edition twice because I kept losing the damn discs(didn't even lend them out, just lost them). If OP wants to count that, then either of those would add up to >$150(GOTY and Diamond editions are wickedly cheap, like $20 each, but the original version of each game + original expansions were quite expensive).

Also, I apologize for commenting so much, but this is one of my favorite topics, I study prices on Ebay for video games and a few other things religiously. I've made several hundred bucks by knowing the prices of stuff, seeing it at a yard sale, or a thrift shop for cheap, grabbing it, and reselling it.

In total, I put $177.50, or so, on New Vegas. I bought the 360 collector's edition for 80 bucks, because I'd waited for the game for more than a year and was more hyped than my sanity liked. I also dropped $20 on the game guide, which came in handy at times. Then, I had a computer made ( almost solely for New Vegas mods ) which ended up being over a grand, but I won't count that. However, I had to buy a new copy for my new PC, so I dropped 30 bucks on that. Then came the DLC, which totaled 40 for the main expansions altogether, and let's say 7.50 for the rest.

I regret nothing. :D

I thought they meant a title.. sorry!

The most I've spent on a video game would have to be Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty Collectors Edition.

It was around 100$ or something..

Daggerfall. I already had the game, but in 2003 I decided to bid on Ebay for the US Daggerfall Deluxe Edition including an Arena CD, and in the auction includeed a barely used copy of the Daggerfall Chronicles as well. And then I had to pay customs for it as well, which raised it a bit further. I think it was about $160 or so.

Myst is another expensive game, I bought the Amiga version at launch and it was much more expensive than the Mac/PC versions. And didn't really get into the game either, so I consider it one of the very worst gaming purchases I ever made

I backed $100 to Massive Chalice, which in hindsight was a bit foolish. I'm sure it will be an enjoyable game, but maybe not that enjoyable

Adding up everything I've bought, around $650.00 USD for Star Citizen (which includes ships + LTI for some of my friends as well as the ships I've purchased for myself). The closest after that probably would be my Steel Battalion controller / game at $200.
