Mothership Zeta Vs. Dead Money

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 6:17 am

So i did Dead Money a little while back and thought, eh, its okay, but last night i decided to buy Mothership Zeta and WOW this is awesome. But its funny, the two DLC's so far seem structured very similarly, but Zeta was just done so much better. The NPC's walk around the control room and have conversations with each other, in Dead Money they're all stuck in place and never seem to really interact. Also, just in general the story seems so much more interesting, and deeper even though there's less pvssyr, the content is just done really well. I don't know...originally I thought I didn't like Dead Money because it was so linear, but now I'm realizing I can handle it being linear as long as the story is cool, the weapons are interesting and the area is aesthetically pleasing, and Dead Money, while it definitely had it's moments...just didn't do this for me...and I'm sure you've all heard enough whining about Dead Money, I just thought it was funny how similar they are and yet how very different they are.

if you post on this, please don't spoil any of the Mothership Zeta story....

MZ had meatshields, uninteresting plot, boring characters, little to no RPG elements and made the idea of aliens in Fallout a ridiculous idea. /imo
While DM had balanced enemies, a well written plot, incredible characters, lots of RPG elements and choices and had great survival mechanics.

DM>>>>>MZ by a long shot.

i dunno...maybe its just because i'm an alien guy...also i just kinda think the characters are more interesting,...i like that they were grabbed from all parts of history...i know its not necessarily REALISTIC but neither is Ghoulification ha

Mothership Zeta to me was just an uninteresting story to follow where you get nice weapons along the way. With Dead Money I very much enjoyed the environment because it was different, had an interesting story, and though the collars were annoying it added a different game play element where you had to be cautious of your surroundings and listen to the frequency of the collar.

i dunno...i also would rather blow through a TON of easy opponents with sweet weapons than have to sneak around 2 or 3 annoyingly tough opponents because i only have 1 bullet for my [censored] police pistol

Wait... you were serious? Oh snap.

You can prefer whatever you want, but I'm afraid I stopped taking your post seriously here:

Also, just in general the story seems so much more interesting, and deeper even though there's less pvssyr, the content is just done really well.

As I said before, you can prefer Mothership Zeta if you so desire, but it is most certainly as heck is not as deep as, let alone deeper than Dead Money. The story of MZ amounted to little more than: "We've been abducted, let's shoot some aliens and blow stuff up so we can escape", and the characters themselves were one dimensional characterizations. Dead Money on the other hand had companions with depth, a storyline with depth. Dead Money wasn't just an excuse to shoot Ghost People, the focus was on the narrative which had a deeper overarching theme (letting go, obviously).

plus - i'm expecting a slightly tougher ending boss...

You're going to be disappointed.

i was expecting some folks to back me up by now...yikes...maybe its just because i just started it and the beginning is pretty cool...but none of you can act like, by the time you turn on the voice activated elevator you weren't ready for Dead Money to end so you could actually kill some stuff

Dead Money for the Win! Mothership Zeta should be taken out back and shot. To me its all one big easter egg and was the worst thing to happen to Fallout since "The Burned Game."

The Pitt was much, much, much better than Mothership Zeta. At least I thought so.

if you tougth MSZ was a good story then the pit will blow your mind way, and if you haven't played Point lookout oh lord you are going to love it so so much more, MSZ had no story it was borring sure you meet people from other times but they had nothing to had the Japonese worrior said nothing at all he just stood there and looked preaty with his armour and sword the cowboy same o, but at least he talked not much but still, the medic was a wuss with 2 lines(you probably learned much more about the Alasca front line in Anchorage)

Yes OP posted an opinion and others are posting theirs. Who would have thought a forum would be a place where not everyone has the same opinion.

No, there's tons more stuff in Dead Money. Hell, there's game breaking tons of stuff in Dead Money.

I'm with you on Mothership Zeta, though. I'm not blind to it's faults but for pure fun it's my favorite DLC. The old skool love to ramble on and condemn it but who cares? Enjoy.

(The Pitt & Anchorage are fun, too. Give 'em a chance)
