Motion Blur improved for Skyrim?

Post » Mon Nov 28, 2011 1:05 pm

Motion blur can be used to hide low fps and screen tearing, so realistic or not it can be a valuable tool/trick when making a demanding game.

Motion blur in games is actually an effect that takes additional processing power to achieve. If you have low fps, turning motion blur off will benefit you.

But I can pretty much guarantee that Skyrim will not have an option for motion blur.

Of course and i doubt Bethesda would make the game so demanding on console they would need something like motion blur to keep it looking smooth, but with games like Arma and Crysis motion blur when your fps is already pretty low can cover it up and make the game playable. That was the only point i was making.

It gives motion sickness so not worth enabling at the cost of me having headaches or my eyes hurting, plus i prefer to see the objects as they are instead of blurred out and not be able to see anything.

So I have been playing some Oblivion recently and I noticed that when you look around the environment the motion blur is really bad and blurry when you pan the camera too fast. Has anybody who has played Skyrim notice an improvement in regards to that? Fallout 3's motion blur was better and less choppy so i am hoping Skyrim will be even better than that

Oblivion does not have motion blur.

My god, I hope not.

Playing Witcher 2 has convinced me that this is a bad thing, however you could choose not to have it on.

If this is a feature in Skyrim I here's hoping you can turn it off.

You're lying when it comes to motion blur in real life; When you move your eyes very fast across something, it does get blurred. You cannot read a piece of text clearly when you quickly turn your whole head across it. Read this paragraph. Now look from left to right in a swift motion. Notice how the paragraph in center is blurry?

Motion blur my friend.

That's not motion blur, that's your brain taking blunt damage, by bumping against your cranium (not really your cranium, but that's the idea) :P .

Wrong. When I turn my head in real life, I can't see what's behind me in the video game...

And nobody constantly moves their head at a tv screen. But in real life, when you move your head rapidly, you get a motion blue. So IMO, I believe it would make Skyrim more realistic.

That's not motion blur. Motion blur is strictly a camera effect due to low shutter speeds. What you're experiencing with your own eyes when you rapidly move your head is just a blurred vision due to your eyes being constantly out of focus. No people can experience motion blur in RL unless they're badly visually impaired.
