Motivations for a Legion character

Post » Tue Jul 12, 2011 1:47 am

Just completed my 1st playthrough (Yesman) and I was thinking of doing a Legion playthrough next (since I managed to do a fair bit of the NCR and House quests when working with Yesman)
Already decided I will play a male for a change as I can't see why a female with any intelligence or self-respect would serve the Legion willingly
I like to be able to have some empathy for my character so he will won't be a total :swear:
I'm trying to work out a backstory and motivation for the character and would appreciate suggestions

About all I've got is that he was part of a small community hit by raiders so he might find the Legions ruthlessness in dealing with lawless elements admirable
Possibly someone in the community betrayed them to the raiders so he'd approve of the Legions treatment of Niptons mayor
Possibly there were NCR troops stationed nearby who did nothing so he starts out with a low opinion of the NCR

Thoughts?

Ta :)

She was dropped on her head as a child.

BAM! Some motivation right there. Well, if you're doing a female character at least...

Maybe he doesn't have a grudge or vendetta. Maybe he just wants to see the Mojave in peace, even if sacrifices must be made.

 no, I ruled out a female character since I don't fancy playing someone with 1 INT

You lived in a peaceful village under NCR protection and control. You payed taxes and id all they asked. But one day a gang of fiends attacked your village and you were the only survivor. your family was killed and it was the NCR's fault. all they did was give you 1000 caps compensation and forget about you. In an act of revenge you attack camp forlorn hope, Almost being killed in the process but a small group of legionaries rescue you. you wake up three days later in a tent with dead sea looking down on you. So then you join the legion in an act to get vengeance on the NCR

Why wouldn't a female wish to serve the Legion? They don't make all women into breeders.
How about her feeling very depressed about never amounting up to anything, and with her hate towards NCR and distrust towards House she thinks she might as well go see this leader of slavers and slaves in hope for inspiration, maybe even if it's just to get a good incentive to serve NCR just to keep them out, then as she meets Caesar she understands what it is he wishes to do, she understands that it's about a greater plan, greater than her and even Caesar finally finds a reason to live and a reason to fight.
