Mounted Combat: Range, Melee, Magic

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:48 pm

What do you guys think about Mounted combat? So u can kill your enemy's while mounted.
Is it already confirmed?

Anyways i hope they add these thing with the mounts:

Companions can ride with you on an other mount or on the same mount.
The mount can attack enemy's while you are mounted on your command.
U can grab people from the ground and drop then when you are high in the sky (with flyable Mount)
U can have an secondary bag on your mount to put your belongings in.

Is there anything else they should add? And what kind of mounts are confirmed in Skyrim?

I don't think flying mounts will be included, although it would be awsome!
I liked the secondary bag idea and the "companions riding with you" idea. Hopefully it'll be included.

These types of threads are going to continue coming even long after the game is released if there is no mounted combat of some type. It's something the community has been wanting for ages now it seems like. They don't want to commit to it being in the game as of yet because they are not satisfied with their efforts to implement it but I would be surprised if we don't get to fight from horseback after all of the demand there has been in the forums for the last five years.

A flying mount... like?

I would like to have mounted combat. But I don't find a purpose to flying mounts, to be honest.

Mounts aren't even confirmed yet, much less combat using them.

And flying mounts? Oh, hell no!

I just would not care if they add mounted combat, or even mounts, I just don't consider it appealing :P in a game, maybe I have some dwarven genes or something

This is one thing that I'm not surprised Bethesda didn't put in Oblivion, and one thing I'll not be surprised to not see in Skyrim either. It is probably incredibly difficult to implement this in a satisfactory way. It would also be very odd if only the PC can do so, and every other character has to dismount first. Bethesda makes great games, but I'm not holding my breath for mounted combat. Nevertheless, if they can do it well enough and do it so NPCs can do it too it would be epic.

Flying mounts would be wonderful (psst, Bethesda... giant snow owl mount).

Mounts aren't confirmed, but there's a saddled horse in the gameplay trailer (http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy297/b_harrison/misc/skyrim_gameplay_horse.png), and http://cms.elderscrolls.com/sites/default/files/tes/concept_art/WhiterunCityTundra.jpg features a laden horse. So if we can't ride them and/or make them carry our stuff, people will be disappointed, and Bethesda must know that.

Even in the best case scenario, though (multiple ridable creatures, saddlebag storage, mounted combat), I doubt we'll see your "share a mount with your companion" idea in the game. It's a great idea, but -- based on my experience of implementing mounts in a different game engine -- very difficult to set up.

The thing about everyone saying that it's so difficult to implement, Mount&Blade got it done very well.

Proof: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecNHq4464PI&feature=related

if that's not good enough, search youtube for Mount&Blade videos, you will find many cases of well developed mounted combat. I understand that it's not the same engine in any way whatsoever, but the basic animations would be pretty much the same.

I really hope they have mounted combat. Horses are kind of useless otherwise.

Mounted combat would be great! And it works nicely with...spears! The idea of 'two seats' horses is brilliant, I'm not sure how easy that would be to implement, but it could improve a lot the escort quests.
