Mounting dragons?

Post » Thu Jul 21, 2011 4:14 am

Does anybody else think that Bethesda may be very hush-hush on the dragon mounting because it is actually going to be implemented in a huge jaw-dropping climactic ending of the main quest or similar? I can see the last quest involving an epic dragon flight where you soar through Skyrim. Has anyone at Bethesda actually confirmed it as not being in the game, or have they always simply declined talking about it? I think this might be something that is in the game that Beth does not want people to know about yet. A secretive element that could potentially be awesome, and unlocked only when the character becomes truly amazing and high-leveled.

I certainly hope not.

edit: and the way the dragon seems to dissolve into energy in the trailer, means that mounting their heads on pikes is probably out, too. Ah, well. :)

It wouldn't work, it would take away the entire challenge of travelling across the rugged land of Skyrim.

Out right Denying isn't being Hush Hush FYI. There will be no riding of dragons. As for Mounting It all depends on what you mean by Mounting Dragons. Ride? Absolutely not? Put a Head above the Fireplace in the den? Don't know.

Impregnate? Well. you ARE the Dragonborn,,,

Todd himself said that you can't mount Dragons or turn into one in an interview.
And that makes me happy.

I find it humorous that because we have dragons this time around, many people's first thought is: "Can I ride them?!".... No one's ever satisfied....

The idea of mounting an intelligent, God-like being with the ability to talk (although only in Dragontongue) does have its appeal, but think of how horribly those ridges would feel underneath you! Bad jokes aside, I really don't think it's a possibilty. In all seriousness, it would be like asking a Daedric Prince for a piggy back ride. Also, other games have tried, largely unsuccessfully, to implement dragon riding. Hopefully, either Skyrim won't have it, or it'll be really good (with maybe some Dragon conversation to acompany it).

I'm sure it won't be implemented, why would they? Why implement a hokey thing like that that would undermine a lot of the work they put into the game and it's playability? Plus I doubt any of the dragons, even the ones friendly to you would allow you to ride them. Dragons are very vain creatures.

Just make sure the Dragon doesn't mount you... many weeks in the hospital (personal experience). Lost of crying in the shower. It's like I can never be clean enough *sniff*

I don't think Bethesda is being 'hush hush' about it. In fact I don't think they even considered it a potential feature at all, people just keep asking about it repeatedly despite it being dismissed many times,

Yep, and when or if a modder actually makes a dragon mount mod, it'll quickly rise to be among the top mods just like the Akatosh mount mod. I'll bet that most of the dragon riding haters here, who swear that dragons are too noble and intelligent to be a mount, will download and use the mod anyway, despite how much they loathe the idea of dragon riding.

How does a standard Skyrim dragon compare to a daedric prince? Currently, the only dragon in Skyrim I see as "God-like" is Alduin; the rest shown so far only seems comparable to any other typical powerful (but not god-like) foe/boss.

If you know the Nordic mythology, you'd actually realize that they worship ALL dragons, not just Alduin. If you wish, consider the non-Alduin Dragons as a sort of demi-God. A hell of a lot more powerful than a non-Prince Daedra, yet not quite as powerful as a God. It doesn't hurt my point that the Divine Akatosh actually comes from the Nordic Dragon God Aka (as revealed in the Song of Pelenal book series from the Knights of the Nine expansion pack). But I digress; you are missing my point. If you want a more succinct example, it would be like riding a giant Argonian mage with wings. They are just as intelligent as any other race, and much more powerful. If that's not a God-like creature, I don't know what is.

The thing about mounting dragons is that you might have killed a friend or family member of the dragon you decided to park your ass on.

But they're still composed of generic dragons who are not as powerful as a daedric prince, hence my questioning of your comparison. You're saying that any dragon in Skyrim (doesn't matter if it's a generic dragon or not) is more powerful than a daedric prince. Yea I'm sure that a generic dragon the dovahkiin encounters at lower levels can easily destroy Mehrunes Dagon :glare:

I'm completely against dragon mounts. I think it would be ridiculous. Being dragon born is enough for me, all of a sudden jumping on a dragon and grabbing it by its horns and flying around Skyrim sounds childish and unnecessary to me. This isn't Avatar, lol. Also, dragons aren't the friendliest creatures and I'm sure they'd have some issues with someone jumping on their back and trying to steer them through the sky.
