Mounts (not dragon)

Post » Sun Apr 24, 2011 8:10 pm

Im not sure if this is listed anywhere but i'd like to know more about actual mounts. Its it just going to be standard horses again? hopefully they'll find a way to work in mounted combat like warband, or atleast better mount controls, am i right? i kind of found them lacking last time around.

Mounted combat will most likely not be in game. I personally do not think its needed though especially if horses are like walking indestructible force-fields that you cant be knocked off of without killing it.

controls probably will be better but we probably will only get horses though they probably will look somewhat like a Clydesdale

Mounted combat would likely add too much imbalance to the combat system.

We'll be lucky lucky to get mounts at all, since last we heard it was still up in the air.

As far as other mounts go, I don't see them adding anything crazy like mountable mammoths or silt striders (though it would be cool if they did). However, I can't imagine that they won't implement a new system of mounted combat. When Oblivion came out 5 years ago, there were few games with mountable horses, and even fewer with mounted combat. Given today's standards for mounted combat (in games like Assassin's Creed, Red Dead Redemption, & Zelda Twilight Princess to name a few), it would be an enormous mistake not to include a mounted combat system. Hopefully they realize that and are far along (if not done) with developing a mounted combat system.

Just a side note, They haven't even confirmed for sure that mounts will be included at all. Todd Howard said he wanted them in, but was unsure. That was a couple of months ago. In the trailer, in the shot with the windmill, a horse can be seen standing in front of a shop. This doesn't necessarily confirm horses, though it indicates that they ARE in fact trying to implement them, and will likely include them in the final game.

No mounts are confirmed, but there is a horse in the trailer so it'd be a good bet to assume they are rideable.

Not really, the trailer came out right after they said that they were still working on being able to make makes workable.

Edit: Also, they said the world would feel weird if there no horses in the game, even if you couldn't ride them.

It would feel even weirder if they're were horses that had no purpose other than scenery.

Another mount thread? There's a search function for a reason. No mount is confirmed. No species of mounts are confirmed. Mounted combat isn't confirmed. Travelling with a mount isn't confirmed. Talking to a mount isn't confirmed. Feeding a mount isn't confirmed. Petting a mount isn't confirned. Using a mount to transport goods isn't confirmed.

i agree with you ToddC45, i think it'd be like a tease. " hey look at this horse you and do anything with other than run into. "

I know adding something like mounted combat could cause some balancing issues but i think if theres ANY company out there who could master mounted combat in a setting like this it'd be these guys. I shudder to think of what this team could to with no time or money restrictions.

When it comes to horse riding they could learn a bit from assins creed 1. that whas the first time i really liked riding a horse in a game. not that it whas flawless, there is always place for improvment.

Well, I'm not the one who makes these decisions, the one who said it does.

Yep. Just like the sailing ships in the trailer make it a good bet you can own and sail your own ship. ;)

Completely different considering sailing or anything close to it wasn't implemented in Oblivion.

No its not, because its not like you can just hijack and man a ship by yourself, There were boats in Oblivion, didn't bother me that I couldn't use them. Also horseback riding is going to be expected by most whilst sailing will not.

I would be surprised and disappointed if Skyrim doesn't feature ride-able horses. Skyrim would suffer without them, IMO.

I'm sure BGS will improve horses enough to include them.

Only because they are ignoring (or not being made aware of) the info being given out.

Since fricking Minecraft has mounted combat then I don't see why Skyrim can't. It's not super hard. You can already turn and look around, all they would have to do is let you swing your sword while your on there. They purposely restricted it OB, because it wouldn't have worked well with the way they did horses. If there isn't mounted combat in Skyrim it's only because they didn't have time to put it in (and have it work well).
