Mouse acceleration in new patch makes game unplayable

Post » Wed Dec 08, 2010 1:59 am

ok a fix has been found. The previous "partial" fix was only partial because the new patch also forced vsync on, so the delay we noticed was from the extra frames queuing. To fix it completely, you must disable vsync manually in the same default ini file by changing iPresentInterval=1 to iPresentInterval=0

Unfortunately, caravan deck building is bugged to crap when vsync is turned off. Game is all kinds of broken. Not that caravan isnt completely broken anyway.

Mouse slow down can be caused by vsync being on. And for some reason with this last patch it was turned on in the .ini but it says its off in the launcher. Try setting iPresentInterval=1 to iPresentInterval=0 to force it off.

If you want it on for any reason (such as the Caravan bug just mentioned) try enabling Tripple Buffering in your graphics card control panel. You can/should also set the maximum pre-rendered frames (nvidia's name for it) to 1 or 2.

Why developers force mouse acceleration on people without giving them a choice of whether they want it or not when so many people most definitely DO NOT want it is beyond me. I had to re-disable it again.

Disabling Mouse Acceleration is working fine for me even without editing Fallout_default.ini. I think the game might overwrite Fallout.ini IF Fallout_default.ini is newer. The first time I ran post patch it reverted my changes undoing mouse accelleration and ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated! I just redid the changes to Fallout.ini and the changes stuck.

I wish Beth would work on the FPS issue or at least comment on it.

One of these days a board mod might want to create a sticky of all these user created fixes
of the game Bethesda sold.

Might keep some purchasers happy that way if they can find a fix for known issues without
having to spend all day wafting through 1000's of posts for a fix for issue xyx0019b.

Lesse, this one ranks high on the list and so does that d3d9.dll fix that is now posted on the Nexus site.

I consider both a critical fix.

Mr Rogers: Boy's n girls can you think of other fixes?

Wouldn't that be neat if you could?

Ah, Mr Rogers, we miss ya. Good thing he went on before all this internet nastiness.

So I got a fun surprise today when I went to start Fallout New Vegas and it started to patch.
Mouse acceleration is back!

I've tried doing the fix of editing the Fallout.ini and Falloutprefs.ini files then making them read-only but Steam seems intent on replacing/rewriting them with the default files. (And yes, I also edited the pref file thats in the steam folder)

I even tried putting Steam in offline mode, disabling Steamcloud for Fallout New Vegas but mouse acceleration keeps turning itself back on.

So I'll add my voice to the growing list of people who are not happy.

I'll also add this snarky comment. "If I wanted to play a game that only works with an XBOX controller I'd have bought it for XBOX."
