Mouse acceleration in new patch makes game unplayable

Post » Wed Dec 08, 2010 8:14 am

[UPDATE]

A fix has been found, you must manually disable vsync (forced on by default now) and you must also copy the acceleration disabling settings to the default ini file in the main directory. Instructions:

go to your Fallout_default.ini file in your steam new vegas folder, and put

fForegroundMouseAccelBase=0
fForegroundMouseAccelTop=0
fForegroundMouseBase=0
fForegroundMouseMult=0

under your controls, and then search for

iPresentInterval

and change it from 1 to 0.

Just got the latest patch on steam and tried the game out. The old acceleration fix no longer works and the game is unplayable because of the awful stuff happening to the cursor in menus.

Please devs just DISABLE IT completely. Nobody on a PC wants your in-game acceleration for a precision mouse, all it does is get in the way. Anybody who actually wants or uses acceleration sets that up outside of the game in their mouse or controller software, its a preference that these people go out of there way to ensure works for them. By forcing it through software in the game, you are complicating their process and preventing the rest of us from being able to play properly.

Thanks for listening.

Agreed, to be honest, I don't understand why game devs feel the need to add this in. Does anyone know of another way to disable it?

Does anyone even prefer mouse acceleration to normal mouse movement? I never have once heard of anyone purposely opting for it.

No. Their testers probably just used a controller and said "good enough". That nobody used a mouse and immediately said "wow this svcks" is pretty strange.

I disagree. The old acceleration fix didn't work for me pre 2nd patch. But now it does. So something severely fishy is going on here. They are releasing patches that only work for some systems but not others. This game has recall written all over it.

How is that? You mean before you couldn't get it to work, and now it works for you?

Not everyone hates it.

-I- hate having to pick my mouse up once or twice to cross my PIPBoy.

If you aren't trolling, you should investigate "mouse sensitivity" ;) And even then, you can still enable acceleration outside the game.

2nd patch forced acceleration for me as well. I had to go back and re-add the code here (I suppose it downloaded a new default.ini or something):

\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas\ fallout_default.ini

Anyway, works for me. Hope the rest of you get it working.. I know how irritating it is.

That removes the crazy acceleration part but there is still something happening to the mouse, its like a 2 frame delay so it always lags. Its like playing with an emulated mouse whereas before it was perfectly smooth and no delay at all.

Heeeeyyyy, that works. :D

Gonna go test to see if it fixes the ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated bug too now. Gotta undo my workaround first. I'll be back with an edit on my results (or a new post if someone else posts).

You know, now that you mention it, it does seem to be lagging a frame or two every few seconds. It's just... off.

I think its still doing the calculation for the acceleration but the setting simply changes the variables in it to remove the functionality. So its still doing a delay so it can get the samples required to determine when to "Accelerate". :(

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! :bowdown:

It seems like New Vegas can't ever decide what .ini file it wants to use. First it can't decided between the one created by Steam Cloud or the one in the My Games directory, and now it wants to use the Fallout_default.ini in the root directory. Why must this game be so temperamental towards my love for it? :shakehead:

I can see where the acceleration would be helpful for that. On the reverse side I use a trackball mouse and the acceleration kills me hehe.

I just set my mouse speed at a level where I can cross the screen quickly and also do precision work too.

It also helps that I have a Logitech MX518 and five preset mouse speeds I can change with just a push of a mouse button. :)

Anyhoo, ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated test successful, it works again now too.

Indeed. I can spin two and a half times with about 4 inches of mouse movement... while I can rotate one 'pixel' at a time should I wish. Same outside of the game.

I just have the touch. I guess playing around in CAD and DAW software so long has given it to me :P

That and I have a high DPI laser mouse. No ball inertia or optical resolution issues.

I like my mouse acceleration, its smooth and precise... I DONT LIKE when some [censored] devs that never used the f-ing thing decide they know my [censored] better then I do and then force their halfassed work onto the players that know better...

Did you read the thread? When they disabled the steam cloud stuff in the patch the game started using the .ini file in a different location. Chill. Why do people automatically jump to pissed off conspiracy theory mode instead of trying to think things through rationally? :P No offense, but you're going to make yourself have a stroke, dude. :D

Please, please, please remove mouse acceleration. The fix posted above causes insane mouse lag.

Mouse slow down can be caused by vsync being on. And for some reason with this last patch it was turned on in the .ini but it says its off in the launcher. Try setting iPresentInterval=1 to iPresentInterval=0 to force it off.

ok a fix has been found. The previous "partial" fix was only partial because the new patch also forced vsync on, so the delay we noticed was from the extra frames queuing. To fix it completely, you must disable vsync manually in the same default ini file by changing iPresentInterval=1 to iPresentInterval=0

So again, go to your Fallout_default.ini file in your steam new vegas folder, and put

fForegroundMouseAccelBase=0
fForegroundMouseAccelTop=0
fForegroundMouseBase=0
fForegroundMouseMult=0

under your controls

and then search for

iPresentInterval

and change it from 1 to 0.

That fixes it. Thanks community!
