Mouse buttons 3/4 and macro's not working

Post » Sat Apr 10, 2010 2:08 am

These buttons work outside of game, but when for some reason the game isnt registering it when i program a key to the side buttons. It makes activating some things like vats really irritating, because i gata move so far to hit it.

Any one else with the issue, or know a fix?

I'm using my 3 and 4 mouse buttons without issue. I have them mapped as Generic Button in my mouse utility. I've used them in Fallout3 this way, and also mapped to a key. When I had them mapped to a key, I had to map that key to the function I wanted--the game ceased to recognize the click as a mouse button, but registered it as the keystroke that it was mapped to.

So, you could try mapping button 3 to V in your mouse utility and leave Fallout with V as the VATS button (in the keymapping section), or you could set the mouse button as a generic button and map it to VATS in the mousemapping section.

I assume you know that you have to click Device in the bottom right corner of the menu to switch between key mapping and mouse mapping.

I've had this happen in some games, too. I've got a Wolf King Trooper mouse, and Titan Quest refuses to register the side buttons when I try to map keys and mouse buttons. =/ I guess macros are supposed to bypass all that, but I think maybe when creating the input programming stuff, the devs don't consider that. For example, in Gothic 1, when I typed my savegame title, my "y" key registered as a "z" and vice versa - a European keyboard key switch? (Gothic was originally released in Germany). It's possible the devs locked down the possible inputs.

I don't know, I'm just speculating. I have absolutely no knowledge about programming or inputs or anything.

I always use Setpoint in these (Gambryo engine) games because as mentioned, it wont do anything past M3. (TF2 does though, for example.)

When remapping your keys, did you make sure you switched the device to your mouse? I can confirm that side mouse buttons do indeed work with this game, and switching the device for mapping is often overlooked by alot of people.

Really? I have a few games that won't read Mouse4 (Mirror's Edge, Dead Space, maybe a few more), but Fallout 3 and NV work just fine. I'm using a Logitech LX7 wireless.

Well now I have to go check NV. I don't have fallout 3 installed since the last Windows reinstall.

I have 10 programmable buttons on my G500. I wonder how many will work.

P.S.

Forgot, the G500 has on-board memory for my default profile. It's just simpler to use the software than mess with all my mouse settings. (Close/copy/paste/back/forward that sort of thing.)

Okay yeah i got it to recognize mouse3 and 4... But what i want is it to press the 6-8 weapon slots. I program the mouse to have keys 6 7 and 8 mapped, but they dont work. i press um and nothing. However, outside of game, icould spam all day with keypresses from my mouse.

Lol sry for the delay, i thought my post was in the wrong spot, the trouble shooting forums is on fire... Feelin sorry for these guys, bet they wish they did a lil more play testing before release...
