EDIT: Problem solved! I plugged in a USB mouse and that seems to have done the trick.

I recently downloaded Morrowind - Game of the Year Edition from Steam.

When I launch the game, the opening cinematic sequence runs fine, except for one crucial problem - my cursor disappears. It's not just a question of the cursor disappearing though, I lost the ability to click on anything either. When launching the game in fullscreen I also lose keyboard interaction. I hit the Start button to try to get out of fullscreen and it did nothing. Only using Control+Alt+Delete worked, and it didn't solve the problem, it just gave me a way to close down the game and get the cursor back.

I then updated ALL of my drivers and spent two hours Googling to see if there's any known solution to this problem - there isn't. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I will watch this thread all night to answer any questions that are asked.

Are you running any mods at all? MGE or MCP? Are you starting from the Steam shortcut? Are you on Win7? Have you tried to run the exe directly as an administrator?

1, No mods whatsoever. I haven't been able to play the game at all.
2, I've tried both the Steam shortcut as well as running it from the desktop.
3, Yes, I am on Windows 7.
4, Just did, no change.

Do you have anything plugged into your computer like a joystick? You're using a normal USB mouse?

Actually I'm just using the trackpad on my laptop. I was going to buy a USB mouse soon for gaming, but at the moment it's just the laptop's trackpad. And no, no other devices like a joystick.

Hmm... I wonder if the trackpad is involved - never tried that myself. I hope a laptop user comes by to verify that a trackpad works.

edit: a quick search shows several people using laptop touchpads with morrowind so that's probably not the problem.

I've never had issues with the trackpad before. I've played multiple other games from Steam (KOTOR, LFD2) without this issue. This is the first time I've ever encountered the problem.

Strange. Two recommendations:

Verify integrity of game cache
Disable steam overlay

Yeah, this is a mystery. Have you looked at the warnings file in the main MW directory?

I've verified the integrity of the game cache. On the first attempt it said one file was off and reinstalled it, after which I attempted to load the game again without any change. The second time it did the same thing. Any reason for this?

The Steam overlay was already disabled.

EDIT: No, fragonard. How do I get at that?

I just reinstalled the game outright and verified the integrity again.

I just plugged in a USB mouse from a friend and that seems to have done the trick. Must be a problem with the trackpad or maybe some combination of that and my graphics card. Well, thanks a lot for your help everyone
