Mouse look/aiming bug?

Post » Mon Oct 03, 2011 4:32 am

I use a Panther XL USB ver 3 ( http://assassin3d.squarespace.com/usb-ver3/ ) which uses a trackball for looking/aiming but you can think of it as a mouse since it contains the guts of a Logitech G400 3600 DPI gaming mouse. Now, until today, I *thought* I wasn't having any problems with the mouse settings in Windows and C2, but after playing on DOD Armageddon CrashSite and getting hammered by DOD Crusnik8 ( more than usual ;) ) I noticed that my aim was "slipping." That is, when I moved the trackball, say, left, sometimes the in-game mouse-look/aim would respond instantly and accordingly but a lot of the time I would rotate the ball left and my aim would just slowly crawl left, like it was stuck -- kind of like a car spinning its wheels. I played several games and the problem not only persisted but got worse.

Just now, I played a short game on DOD's Pacific Server with three other people and the problem was as bad as ever. The top scorer got 14 kills and I got 7, even with totally malfunctioning aim/look ability -- perhaps that says something about their skill or mine; I won't jump to conclusions. ;)

Anyway, *outside of Crysis*, the mouse/trackball ( whatever you want to call it ) works perfectly fine.

I have the Windows "Pointer speed" set to the default of 6 with "Enhance pointer precision" disabled and "Acceleration" disabled in the Logitech Gaming Software Utility. Also, I have these settings in my game.cfg :

Code:
i_mouse_accel = 0
i_mouse_accel_max = 100
i_mouse_smooth = 0

( ie. No mouse acceleration and no mouse smoothing in C2 )

Is this a new bug or is my hardware malfunctioning? In any case, as I look back, I think this has been going on in the game to a lesser degree in the past, potentially affecting my aiming since day 1.

Has anyone else encountered an issue like this?

I just confirmed that the behavior exists outside of Crysis so it must be my hardware.

:(

I am going through 2 USB hubs. Hmmmm..... Don't know why that would present a problem now but I'll try connecting directly to my system.

Still doesn't work. Either something really strange is going on or else Occam's Razor tells me that the problem is just related to something becoming unseated in the trackball section or some kind of gunk or debris on the optical mouse sensor and/or LED.

Turns out that there was a MASSIVE fuzz ball in the trackball socket, right over the optical mouse sensor -- LOL. I have no idea where the hell it came from but it's been there for a while. XD I think my aiming should improve now. :D

lol always clean your peripherals frequently for best performance in multiplayer.
and you shouldn't go through multiple hubs for your mouse. it create input lags.

We have said many times that the killcam is no valid proof of what happened... just rough replay..

The differences you see have to do with differential pings and lags which means the are time difference's between you and the opponent and the killcam try's to mix all that up in one replay.
