Move Flamer/Incinerator to Explosives?

Post » Fri Apr 24, 2009 8:28 pm

I don't think I need to educate you all on why the Explosives class is horridly underpowered in comparison to the other. It is the only combat skill you can't "Main". It is simply too expensive to use realistically.

Really simple: Should flamers and incinerators be moved to the 'Explosives' category. Other then maybe Mercy/GMG, this class has no weapons that don't require special conditions to be useful.

Yes or no.

I'm going to move flamers into science or leave them as EW's.

However incinerators are going to get moved to explosives.

Flamers feel wrong in any, but in my playthroughs the lobber that is an incinerator feels like an explosive weapon.

I agree. Fire should be under energy.

I don't give a crap about flamers or incinerators, but it should be whatever the developers want it to be.

Or just leave them in EW and hope for Big Guns to return or for a Chemical Weapons skill in FO4.
One thing is for certain, neither of them explode.
Incinerator doesn't explode, it spreads.
It's a ball of fire which on impact splashes out over the area.
Not an explosion.

I'd rather have those two, a Flare Gun, a Flame Gun, a Flame Rifle and Incendiary grenades put into a new skill called Chemical Weapons.
That way we won't have to go through this debate again and they are in the area of expertise they need to be.

EXPLOSIONS MAKE FIRE.
FLAMER MAKES FIRE.
INCINERATOR MAKES FIRE.
Energy makes fire too, but that class is the most balanced yet.

Explosives need love.

Well I don't know about moving the incinerator to the explosive class, but I do wish that the Explosive skill would be tweaked a bit. I really want to make an "explosives" character and use that skill as my main.

Then raise their damage, they're suppose to be a double edged skill when it comes to damage.
High damage + AOE = instakill a lot of times.
High damage + AOE + close distance = reloading a lot of times.
Double edged, don't let enemies get too close and you'll do fine.

The weapons are sorted into groups based on how they are operated.

Guns goes dakka dakka and has a recoil. Ammo is bullets.
Energy weapons goes pew pew and has no recoil. Ammo is stored energy, either in cells or tanks.
Explosives goes boom and are either thrown or launched. Ammo is grenades or bombs.

The flamer weapons are closer to a plasma caster than a grenade machinegun or minigun in how the weapon is used, thus they are energy weapons.

One day devs are gonna get fed up about this and put a Flame Weapons skill in the game just to troll us.

And Flamers/Incinerators go Pew-pew??? High tech super high energy laser/plasma weapons and low tech spray gun don't mix well.

Should be Explosives!

I moved them in my game and it makes it much better. EW does not need em.

Not all Energy weapons go "Pew Pew" Gauss Rifle goes "Bang!". The Plasma Rifle only goes Pew, Laser doesn't go Pew, it goes a sound undescribable.

They go whoosh whoosh which is nearly the same, the ammo is stored energy and they operate like a plasma caster (as in, press buttan make bacon, with no recoil).

Well, I've been playing Call of Duty: Black Ops and Fallout: New Vegas, mostly, but I get what "bacon" is, its just like turning a bandit to "swiss cheese"..

Chemical weapons makes equal amounts of sense in both Explosives and Energy, since it has attributes of both. Put them in Explosives, that is the skill that needs love. Does Explosives have anything that is as useful as the YCS/186? No. Not even close.

So your saying that the ignition (activation energy) of flamer fuel (a chemical) that releases the stored energy of the fuel (reaction) isnt an explosion, I am going to point at the internal combustion engine and you will tap yourself on the forehead as you realize that fire is an explosion.

Again, raise the Explosives damage, now as useful if not more useful than YCS considering it has AOE attacks.
