Movie

I think there should be a Fallout 3 movie that follows the story line to a point. If done right it would be a good movie.

They should probably do a movie about the first game then take it from there, if it's successful. I honestly don't know if it would work all though I think it would have better chance of being successful then an Elder Scroll movie.

I've had this idea before too. but It'd end up being directed by Uwe Bowle and the story would be changed around and it would svck.

They should make a second (fourth) game instead.

It might actually be in development:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1313237/

And instead of direct adaptation of any of the games, I'd prefer it to be an original story set in the Fallout world, if anything.

I've said before and will say again. If they make a FO3 movie, it had better have Vin Diesel ripping out a Deathclaw's spine with his bare hands.

Bear hands? You want Diesel to play a Yao Guai?

Ridely Scott better be the director lol. I mean come on he would be perfect. throw in some great actors like Gary Oldman, Jeremy Irons, and others and we could have a great movie on our hands.

but If Uwe boll ruins any more video game based movies I hope a seal team takes him out back and has a field day with him.

Terry Gilliam would be my choice. Ridely Scott is a favorite, but not for this kind a flick IMO (We don't want Gladiator 2077AD ~well... some of us don't).

I'll second that.

As far as movie plot, etc goes - I think for a game like Fallout the real mis-step would be in trying to make something that followed any of the existing storylines too closely. A key element of the franchise is at least a certain amount of open-endedness. No movie is going to be able to conform to a significant majority of the players' experiences in the game (not to mention that unless you've painstakingly created a Vin Diesel head to roleplay with in the game, the main actor isn't going to look very much like your own character.) These games are very personal experiences for anyone playing them. I've gone through Fallout 1 and 2 dozens of times, and yet I still have my one playthrough for each that I consider the "real" way that things worked out in my head.

The best way for them to go would be to come up with their own totally original storyline that tried to hit on some of the key themes of the universe, rather than trying to pull anything directly from the plotlines of the existing games. I mean, certainly some common elements would play in a hypothetical Fallout movie: It would probably start out with someone being sent out from their Vault for whatever purpose. At some point they'd run into Supermutants and uncover their plot and origins. And they would enlist the help of the Brotherhood of Steel in stopping the menace, and possibly a conflict between them and the Enclave, as well. That stuff I'd imagine is sort of a given for any Fallout movie.

But likely the best way to go about any of that would be to even have the movie take place in a completely different area than California or DC.

By the way, few people know that there actually was one past attempt at making a Fallout movie, but it was eventually canceled:

Agreed. Even if you got the best director you could find it would still probably end up being awful.

Agreed, fallout would be a difficult film to adapt from the game. Despite what all gamers seem to think, it would flop in theaters like practically all game movies... It would really have to be something special to get people other then gamers to go see it beyond the opening week... And the "who could direct game" is pretty much been played to death already. And no Peter Jackson or Ridley Scott would select this as a film as they prioritize things higher then this franchise.

If they made fallout on a scale of something like Mad Max, and really made it gritty then perhaps... but not like a Doomsday, seriously.

Like we discussed in the Uwe Boll thread, most gamer's don't recognize the fact that Fallout 3 is derived from almost every major post-apoc movie there is. The first two games were essentially parodies of movies like Mad Max, Thunderdome, Defcon 4, Boy & His Dog, Omega Man, Twilight Zone... etc etc. This formula isn't bad and works great for a video game, but if it's put into film people will see it as being BADLY derivative. People unfamiliar with the game will just say, "Yeah, it wasn't bad, but I liked it better when the movie was called Mad Max. Who are they kidding?"

Ugh...not again. Here it is people..my cynical two caps worth about what a Fallout Film would be like. Summed up...F***in' AWFUL. Nobody who has played the games will like it, as there will be too much stuff missing\edited\chopped\censored out. None of the actors will get ANYTHING right unless they take the time and headache to get ONLY the best...which we all know video game movies NEVER have the budget for. And finally, I could see a Fallout movie actually being made, as Hollywood has already proved that they hit the bottom of the barrel a long time ago and are now into the wormy squirming pile of slimy garbage underneath. For those of you wondering what I mean by the garbage, just think of the movies you've seen that made you want to puke and then send the studio responsible for their creation a crate full of **** because that's what the movie was. Sorry people, but If you want a decent Fallout movie? Go start your own studio and hire screenwriters, etc who actually play the games and have given them more than a passing glance into the background and content. The only Fallout movie that will suit is one that is produced by people who I suspect spend a good deal of time on here....

The movie is in IMDb Pro (which is quite reliable, unlike regular IMDb). And we have info from people with Pro access. If you have a credit card, you can sign up for a 14-day trial, and then cancel for no fee.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1313237/

Also, there is actually no director listed yet, only writer and producer. But the producers are http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0164721/ (who produced some of Uwe Boll's movies) and http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1885661/, and the writers are http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0877587/ (who wrote Boll's BloodRayne) and http://www.imdb.com/find?s=all&q=Andre+Fonseca+&x=0&y=0 (with no other credits). So it's reasonable to assume that Boll might be making it.

And the release date is listed as December 2009, but it's likely to be a placeholder, since there's no way even Boll would make the movie so fast.

The people at Bethesda are not fans of Uwe Boll, but they're not the ones making such decisions, the suits at ZeniMax are.

Why the hell on earth are people thinking such things "They should make Fallout 3 Movie" ??
The movie should be based on the whole fallout universe, not just one game because it's currently cool

I agree they should do a fallout movie, but three of them and in the right order, but like many films they need to be careful they shouldn't focus to much on the storyline or have to much action. There needs to be the right balance cause if the film ends up focusing on one of the two to much it will probaly won't turn out that well.

Well you never know, they may make the fallout one better than any other game based movie that you have seen. You have to give it a chance
