Movies

What movies have you all recently watched? What did you think of them? and most importantly, would you recommend them?

I saw a few movies recently. Gummo which was alright. Wouldn't recommend it unless you're in a 'my mind needs a [censor]ing' kind of mood. Contact which was incredibly boring and I fell asleep, Shutter Island was pretty good, definitely recommend it. I fell asleep watching The Mechanic, and Zombieland pretty entertaining - worth a watch at least.

I've been rewatching lots of films, and it's been disappointing that some aren't as great as I first thought - "The United States of Leland" and "Swingers" are still good, but nowhere near as good as I remembered. Although "Heathers" was still great imo.
Most recent "new" film I've seen is "A Serious Man", which was very good - my bf is a diehard Coen brothers fan and he thinks it's one of their best, which is saying something coming from him I think.

[Edit]: I'd recommend seeing all of them, as none are particularly bad. Especially as you can pick up the older films really cheap.

Rewatched Scott Pilgrim and Layer Cake the other day, both still awesome. Haven't seen anything in the cinema since Tron: Legacy, but I might go and see True Grit at some point.

I watched The Good, the Bad and the Ugly the other day since I finally picked it up on Blu-ray. Not too shabby of a transfer, never looked or sounded better, but I didn't like that they kept the reworked audio from the 2004 DVD release. Not that it sounded bad or anything, but it wasn't hard to spot when it went out of sync with the newly recorded voiceovers. Just nitpicking though, still a brilliant film.

Of course I'd recommend it, but I can't really imagine too many folks haven't seen it before and are on the fence. :P

Watched The Wrestler and Requiem of a Dream (again) after watching Black Swan.

Also The Prestige, which is one of my favourite movies. I can definitely recommend that one.

I watched "The men who stare at goats" a few days ago. I wasn't expecting much to be honest, but I would highly recommend it. The humor is quite subtle at times, but it's still really good. Hyserically funny in places without being a proper comedy (The story is also great).

I recently watched for the first time:
"Night of the hunter": good cinematography and performances but average overall
"Vertigo": masterpiece!
"Paths of glory": very good anti-war movie
"Repulsion": eerie and creepy, very well made for a low budget, not for everyone though...
"The king′s speech" : best movie i′ve seen this year

To be honest, I haven't watch a movie since I saw the latest Harry Potter with my girlfriend

It was pretty good. I don't read the books, I just watch the movie. Just judging the movie for what it is it was pretty awesome.

Edit: Unneeded capitalization.

The cast look great, but the trailers I've seen look absolutely horrible. I'm not one of those miserable people who hates all kids movies, I love Pixar and I find most Dreamworks movies at least watchable, but it looks like they just spun a wheel with the names of a bunch of inanimate objects on and then anthropomorphised whichever one it landed on.

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.
This is the third movie from a good trilogy.

You should check out The Prestige if you liked The Illusionist, two of my favorite movies.

Last week I bought Let Me In on the Blu-Ray and I've watched it three times, it's a great movie and I'd highly recommend it (as well as the original Swedish version, Let the Right One In). A few nights ago I watched Insomnia on Netflix which is a Christopher Nolan film starring Al Pacino and Robin Williams, it was also very good. Most recently I watched Zodiac directed by David Fincher, which was quite good but a tad slow in parts.

I'm always on the lookout for great movies that I haven't seen yet, I been actively scouring Netflix for some movies that I might like this week.

Watched Men Behind the Sun for the first time a couple of days ago. Pure exploitation (un)entertainment, can't recommend for anyone not fan of the genre. Precious was a peculiar flick, somehow reminded me of Lilja4ever (which is probably the most depressing story that ever came out of my DVD player).

Rewatched lately:
Magnolia
Alien
Piranha
Spirited Away
Trainspotting

All very commendable movies (except maybe for Piranha, but I got nostalgic, I really liked it when I was a kid).

Went on a little marathon last night with my better half. Watched a couple war movies. Forest Gump and Fullmetal Jacket. Still fantastic movies. Think I'll watch Saving Private Ryan tonight then start on a Band of Brothers marathon.

I can't believe my girl will watch these with me.

OK movie, but the original 1982 Tron roundhouse kicks it and slams it on the concrete.

No arguments there, I wish I could find the original movie I'd love to see it again. Maybe once Tron Legacy comes out on Blu-Ray, Disney will rerelease the original Tron movie again, heck maybe make it a part of the Blu-Ray disk special features---now that would be worth buying.

Just watched Good Will Hunting. It was a good movie, but a little too light hearted for me.
