MoviesVideo Games Nobody Seems to Like...

But you absolutely love.

Title says it all. This was born of an argument with an old friend over the virtues of my first suggestion, Far Cry 2. Everyone else I know hated the game. It was boring, it was too different from Far Cry, it was brown (It's bloody Africa, it's supposed to be brown!), enemies respawn too quickly and take half a mag to kill! Whatever. The game had some really, really glaring design flaws, I'll admit, but I always was able to overlook them and see this absolute gem of a game, and one of the best portrayals of the abstract idea of "Africa" in any medium. And it was free of the [censored] annoying kids that populated Far Cry 3 and the ridiculous mutants from Far Cry. It felt like a real place. It was a genuine (conflict) diamond in the rough.

As far as movies, I'll keep with the Africa theme. Blood Diamond. I loved it, nobody else did. Don't know why, it had a decent story, good acting, fantastic camera work and direction. Of course, I find that Ed Zwick's style of moviemaking seems to be a bit out of style. Nobody liked the Last Samurai either, when that's a decent film if you can ignore the whitewashing of the Samurai and the odd reverse-ethnocentric "White people are so corrupt" theme.

I fell in love with the game Alan Wake right away after buying it when it first came out. I know many people found the game to be great, but certainly not as many as the creators had hoped for. None of my friends or anyone I know played the game and some never even heard of it. Alan Wake had such a unique plot that intrigued me right from the beginning and it held a massive creepy and sometimes scary sense theoughtout the entire game. Although the story could be hard to understand at times, I absolutely loved everything about it.

Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage on the N64. People seemed to hate it since it was revealed, given what I've read about it online, and I don't know anyone else that actually played it.

It was the first ever WRPG that I played (Pokemon would be my first RPG, period) and I kinda liked it, even though I was too dumb young to figure out how to play it properly.

"Bows are fun! Why do I keep getting a game over if just one of my guys dies? Why do I always start over from the beginning? How do you save? How do I kill the thing? How does this lady use magic? Naming Magic svcks, didn't she use a fire ball in the opening cutscene? How do I get the warrior guy in my party?"

I remembered the game a few years ago and played it. It's actually better than I remembered it...because now I actually know how to play. I kind of wish that the company didn't go bankrupt so they could finish the other two games that were supposed to follow up on The First Mage.

I rather liked Blood Diamond and Last Samurai

Farcry 2 though, I just couldn't get into. It felt like a pointless side mission fest filled with respawning enemies too much of the time. And enemies can detect you in the most ridiculous of situations...take out an enemy with a knife silently and somehow the whole camp knows right at the moment it happens. Just got boring and repetitive to me unfortunately.

Anyways, one movie that I enjoyed that I'm sure many don't is Silent Hill. Horrible acting and story loopholes aside, I found the movie a marvel to watch in terms of visuals.
