Moving Camera in Render Window

Post » Wed Jan 12, 2011 10:19 am

How do I move the camera around in the render window? I want to be able to see the entire player house, not just a tiny corner of it. Also, is there a guide on all the controls or how to use the render window?

EDIT: I just went back in after finding controls, and now I can't even find the house!! I'm just staring at a brown screen! Can someone please help??

I take it you learned how to control the camera? If not, check out the wiki, for instance at:
http://geck.gamesas.com/index.php/gamesas_Tutorial_Layout#Using_the_3D_Camera

Here is the key parts:

To Zoom, either use the "Scroll Wheel" on your mouse or hold "V" and move your mouse forward or backwards. "V" is a smooth zoom, useful for precise motions, while scrolling is practical for regular use.

To Rotate the Camera, hold down "Shift" and move your mouse. This will rotate your view around the currently selected object. If nothing is selected it will turn the camera in place.

To Pan the Camera up, down, left, or right, hold either the "Space Bar" or click & hold the "Middle Mouse Button", moving your mouse to pan.

To turn the bright lighting on so you can see better, click the icon of the lightbulb on the toolbar (you can also press 'A' if the render window is active).

Besides that, you might be in a certain spot of the cell looking at something. You can try maneuvering the camera around to see. If not, you might also look at the the list of items in the current cell. I think by default it is on the bottom right area, next to the list of cells/rooms. Double-clicking an item in the list will jump the camera to it.

If you managed to take the camera away from the cell you were in, you can either scroll around looking for it, or simply find it again in the list of cells and double-click it to jump the render window to it.

Not sure if that is exactly what you needed, but hopefully it helps. Good luck!

And if something is in the way of you selecting anything behind it, you can 'wire-frame' it and make it unselectable by:

1. Select the object you want to wireframe.
2. Press the '1' key once to wireframe it, again to make it vanish, and a third time make it normal again. This can only be done if you keep it selected since once its unselected, it cannot be selected again until you refresh the render window.

If you want to remove all wireframes and turn the objects back to normal, press F5 to refresh the render window.

Making an object wireframed has absolutely NO effect on the object as rendered in the game, or even if you reload the mod. Its a temporary thing that allows you go get to items thar are hidden behind obstructing objects, like the FX Clouds, light beams and stuff.

That's not entirely true. While you can't select and activate it in the Render window itself, you can do it through the object menu for that cell.
