Moving to new computer

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 4:56 pm

I have been playing Fallout 3 for a while but now have a new computer. What I would like to do is MOVE the game to my new machine - i.e. not have two copies running but just one, on the new computer. The thing is how to do this!

I think I can manage to copy the saved games across but what of the main software? If I uninstall from the old computer, will I be able to re-install on the new machine?

If not, what is the way ahead here?

Thanks

Alan

what I did with my game was install to the new system then copied my "old" one ontop of the "new" one (overwriting any files) using a flashdrive to carry the files over & that allowed me to keep the mods as they were

this was using the retail disc version

You should have a program on your computer to migrate files from one computer to another. Left click on the windows start button. Hover the cursor over "All Programs", when the popup menu appears, click on "Accessories", than "System Tools". You will see a short cut to "Windows Easy Transfer". Follow the instructions.

If all you have is the vanilla game, then installing it from the disk is the fastest way to get it on the new machine.

If you have mods, installing from disk is still the fastest way to install the game, but, then you copy over the Data Files directory from your current machine to the new one. That will bring over your mods.

OK, thanks for the suggestions. My main worry was one of DRM and whether a second copy could be installed OK. As it seems that will not be a problem then I can get on and install and copy over the data files as needed.

Thanks; soon to play again!
