Moving stuff around in houses

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 6:58 pm

I loved Morrowind and Oblivion both. To be honest though one of my favorite things to do in Oblivion was to completely custom-decorate my mansion from the ground up. Strip out every single item and scour the world for cool stuff to fill my home. But I heard that it's very likely that everything will glitch out if you attempt to do this in Skyrim, with the items all snapping to a random corner or spinning in a tornado of crap when you re-enter the domicile. Has this been fixed yet? If not, any word on when it will be?

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I posted this in the wrong forum. >.< I had all three main Skyrim forums open when I posted this. Sorry!

Not sure what you're talking about. Do you mean you wanna get rid of all the bowls and pitchers and vases and such and find your own knick-knacks to put on shelves? I wouldn't think there would be any problem with that.

Do you mean the inability to grab and move things? If you can grab and move things I haven't figured out how to do it. [Play on a PS3]

i have confirmed that they have fixed the issue with some items but most unique items like your thieves guild trophies and dragon claws are unable to be set down permanantly without them moving around
but all the deadric artifacts and bugs in jars and most clothes can be also all the priest masks (not wooden mask) can and most books so hopefully all the best stuff will be fixed with this next patch i got an email reply from bethesda help saying that hopefully this next patch after thanksgiving should take care of the rest of the items

This happens to me too! Occasionally when I put something down it ends up on the floor when the house load. However, after putting the item(s) there a second time it seems to stop.

I believe he means, when you drop objects and arrange them in you home with the grab button, if you leave the cell and come back, they will all be back to the positions they were first dropped at.

To grab something on PS3 you hold down the x button. Took me a while to figure that out too.

Yeah, I know how to move stuff around. But I'd read somewhere on the forums people mentioning that there were bugs associated with people trying to move their stuff around only to come back later and find it all glitched out. I didn't want to spend any time moving stuff around if I had to wait for a patch that would let me do this stuff safely.

When you got a reply from Bethesda did they say if unique items will be able to be dropped down permanently? And when the next patch should be?

I hope this gets fixed. I hate having to store everything in chests, or else find it rolling around on the floor the next time I enter the house. I even had a nice sword clip through the floor and disappear after placing it on a shelf. :(

Can you guys use the weapon racks? I cannot on PS3. No dialogue box or action happens when I go near them. And I've tried at least three-finity times.

Ive heard dropping them, placing them, leaving and reentering, then placing them again will fix most placed items. So you have to do another tedious step before you commence operation decorate.

Press and hold the activate button until the object lifts up, then release the button to move it around. Tab the button again to drop it.

I have found that sometimes placing items manually like that will not save their location. For example, I put some jewels in one of the display cases in the Markarth house. Went back to my Solitude house to move some stuff and when I came back, all those jewels were on the floor in pretty much the same pattern they were in when I dropped them from my inventory to put them in the display case.

Same would happen for putting thins on shelves. However, saving or waiting inside for a while after placing the items might just do the trick to save their position. I put the jewels back and quicksaved, and then spent a few hours practicing alchemy. Now every time I enter my home, the jewels are right where I want them to be.

Man I spent an hour the other night decorating.. putting random stuff on plates.. getting Dwemer artifacts.. Filling up baskets with apples and [censored]... leaning a sword on a wall.. putting a pelt on a table.. only to find that 60% of it was all on the ground or across the room.. It's definetly not fixed and if you don't wanna get mad.. don't start decorating.. I also like doin this stuff but it definetly isn't up to par right now..

The mechanic is so hard to mess with in this game. I know I will yell and curse at the screen the entire time I set up my house.

For me some objects stay in place while some go back to their original position or elsewhere. The objects I have that stay in place are : some amulets, gourds, tomatoes put in baskets, cheese, a statue, some pearls that I put in the soul gem holder thingy, bread, home-cooked meal, alchemy recepies, wooden bowls. What flew around: gems, plates and bowls (actually, I had some cheese slices on a plate and the plate flew, but the cheese was right there where I put it), ingredients on shelves/tables, cooked meat.
I gave up on redecorating...

Oddly shaped items spaz out upon re-entry to the home. Things liek the claws and whatnot will clunk around (and the Ebony Blade Mephala gives you falls off of a weapon rack after re-entering the home

I feel like I have extensive knowledge in this subject. My home in Whiterun is straight customized ...

LISTEN UP

When I first moved stuff and put it where I wanted ... It flew out of place ... I'd come home and be like, "[censored]".
BUT, since I'm persistent ... I would put it back ... Every single time ...

By the third time, the objects started staying in place. Now they move less often as well. I feel like you almost have to break the house in. Once you move a bunch of stuff inside of it, it's almost like it becomes more comfortable with you doing it. I might be crazy, but that's the way it worked with me.

My house is awesome and I'm very proud of it

I'm on an Xbox 360. I accidentally shouted in my house mocking some things off the table is my whiterun house. Next time I entered my books were fused with baskets. Which I was able to remove them and fix it. But after that all the food ware ect. Would be upside down, on the floor all over the house. I was tired of seeing it so I took it all and sold it.

I have a solution that worked for me and it stopped items from moving.

1. First take everything in that house and sell it all.
2. Then place your items.
3. Save your game after you place everything.
4. Then reload your save.

I have done this and my items no longer move I hope this helps everybody.
