Moving while in workshop mode

Post » Sat Jan 16, 2016 2:18 pm

So after about 100 hours of gameplay I finally just started getting into settlement building a bit. I'm on PC, using a keyboard, and I immediately noticed that's it's more or less impossible to do anything since I can't move while I'm in workshop mode. The movement keys are the same as the menu navigation keys, which take precedence while in workshop mode. So I can basically only build things that are within a certain range, which quickly becomes really old. Especially when you're trying to run wires or assign settlers.

I can't be the only one with this issue. Brain trust: What's the solution here?

I immediately rebind my keys before I ever start playing any game, so I hadn't noticed your problem - although I can't strafe left because that is the same key as one of the rotates, so that might be the same issue.

Are you using default movement keys or rebinds?

Lol so you have the same problem. As I said on the thread about the lack of patches, maybe the Script Extender fixes it, I still have no Idea.

So for now my solution was to install (in windows' language and keyboard settings thing) an English/USA keyboard (which is qwerty) and when I launch the game, I use the default hotkey to switch the keyboard config. And of course I reset all the bindings to the default wasd.

Yes, I'm a lefty so I use the arrow keys for movement, which are also the default menu navigation keys (and cannot be rebound as far as I know).

Would the script extender allow me to rebind the workshop menu navigation keys? Cause that would solve a lot of problems!

Oh right, of course it's the same issue with arrow keys, so my solution won't help, since it basically uses the default wasd, only that it's zqsd on azerty keyboard. Frankly, I still can't figure how Bethesda was able to do such a poor job with remapping keys.

Actually I doubt F4SE fixes the issue with the workshop mode, since it only allows more remapping, and maybe use different keys for actions that are currently bound to a single key.

In that case, the autohotkey thing would be your best bet.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried using the WASD keys for movement while in Workshop mode?

It is a long shot, I know, but ...

Other navigational inconveniences in workshop mode are (1) you can't sprint, (2) you can't jump while connecting wires and/or highlighting items that connect wires.
