Mozilla Spark...

Post » Wed Feb 02, 2011 2:14 am

I don't understand https://spark.mozilla.org/en-US/home. I don't understand if it's a separate application or if it's a part of Firefox 4, I don't understand what it does, what's it supposed to be used for and, generally, wtf. All I know is it obviously has something to do with Android phones. They say it's a "game". What the hell?

Someone please explain this to me.

To me it looks like the concept is getting people to go to your "spark" page.

Maybe to advertise Firefox for the android?

You mean anime? Wait, are you serious?

The only video I found on the page (the one I linked to in the OP) was http://videos-cdn.mozilla.net/serv/marketing/firefox4/Mobile-launch-greatday640.webm but that is obviously only about Firefox 4 for Android, no mentioning of this "Spark" thing.

I think it's some kind of simple game they're using to promote Firefox for Android. I haven't tried it yet on my phone...from what I've read Firefox for Android isn't really worth using yet. Too slow. Then again, "fast" isn't a word I'd have used to describe any version of Firefox before 4 (it's much faster). I've still been using it since 2 for the robust plug-in framework, though.

I think it is just a "game" they made to get people to spread the word of Firefox for Android for them.

To celebrate Mozilla Firefox going mobile, we've created Spark, a game that lets you share Firefox with friends and help the flame of the open Web glow bright.

Not an Android or Maemo user?
No problem, try Firefox Home for iPhone (get it FREE from iTunes)
OR just help spread the word about Firefox for mobile to others.

And that is why I think that.

If I owned an Android I would download it to see what it is.

Well so would I, if I had an Android phone.

K...I just installed FF4 on my phone. It is slow. I looked at the Spark page, but I didn't go any further. First of all, I didn't feel like signing up for an account. :P Second, from the description it sounds like the "game" involves harassing people you know to try FF4. Really, Mozilla?

I'm tempted to try it, but not enough to actually take the time to try it. :P

Oh, well that makes a bit more sense... But it's still stupid as [censored]. Very professional marketing, though.
