MPP Problems, Mistakes, and Suggestions

Post » Mon Sep 23, 2013 6:34 pm

I've decided to make a separate thread for pointing out errors in the current Morrowind Patch Project, and original MW problems the patch missed, rather than complaining in the MGSO thread that has almost reached its post limit. Here's the list of problems I've found with Morrowind Patch 1.6.5 Beta (BTB Edit).esm.

MPP makes a new entry for the greeting "Who's there?" filtered for GetDetected and NoLore. This new dialogue entry, numbered 615436871635621253, must be deleted from future iterations of the patch. There is a reason Bethsada altered the original greeting so it wouldn't be used by most NPCs anymore. Dialogue's GetDetected filter seems to be buggy or even broken, so NPCs will keep saying "Who's there?" [goodbye] every time you try to talk to them. If you are experiencing this bug, the solution is here: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1473376-whos-there-goodbye/?p=23008563

The MPP filters Codus the bookseller's dialogue for "Hassour Zainsubani" for the A1_11_ZainsubaniGift journal entry. This is wrong. You can learn Hassour likes poetry without ever triggering this journal entry. In fact, the entry itself is extraneous to the main quest, and doesn't even check itself as finished properly -- this needs to be fixed as well. The bookseller Codus needs to have his dialogue re-filtered for the main quest journal entry A1_11_ZainsubaniInformant either instead, or as well in a duplicated dialogue entry, otherwise if you learn about needing a poetry book from Hassour just by asking him, Codus will never tell you which poetry books he has -- and it's not readily apparent that Hassour only accepts the books he already owns (really Bethsada?), so that would end with the player desperately looking for a poetry book he doesn't own and wasting a lot of time buying the wrong books, all because Codus will no longer tell you unless you approach the quest from exactly the right angle.

The MPP needs to change Master Aryon's dialogue "Mouth" along with already removing the rank up that comes with quest completion. The dialogue and resulting journal entry need to reflect this. Having Aryon say "I am pleased to see my own protege rise so quickly to the rank of %NextPCRank in House Telvanni." is confusing now that the player doesn't rank up in that dialogue anymore, and the final journal entry for HT_RecruitEddie, "Now that I have a Mouth to represent me, Master Aryon promoted me to Master in House Telvanni." makes the matter even worse. Please remove these references to becoming a Master when you can no longer do this at this point.

The MPP re-filters Edd Theman's "chores" dialogue so you need to be a Master in House Telvanni before he'll do chores for you, but you hire him as a Wizard. This is perhaps to prevent him from doing chores before he becomes you Mouth, in which case it should be filtered for the journal entry HT_RecruitEddie and not rank. You should be able to send him chores as soon as he becomes your Mouth, which you could originally do, as buggy as the whole Telvanni end-quests were.

The journal entry MT_WritBemis mistakenly calls itself a Mages Guild quest, and the MPP doesn't fix that yet.

Found another issue with the original A1_11_ZainsubaniInformant quest that the MPP doesn't fix yet. Under "thoughtful gift" the dialogue: "Please take no offense, but I already own a copy of this book. But you could not know this, and it in no way diminishes the pleasure of your gift. Again, I thank you, and in return, I offer a gift of my experience of the Ashlands and its people. What would you wish to know about the Ashlanders and the Nerevarine cult?" Is filtered for A1_11_ZainsubaniInformant >= 33, when it should be => to 31 because entries 31-33 are for when the books are given.

Edit: not that the above matters, because completing the quest will make the A1_11_ZainsubaniInformant >= 34 entry trigger instead which assumes you charmed him out of having to give a gift.

some oldies:

resist paralysis effect was changed from 0.2 to 2.0; considered a balancing change and not a bug fix -- lots of people upset about that

items removed from summoned creatures; considered a balancing change and not a bug fix -- many upset

Drarayne Girith was changed to female, which caused a lot of compatibility issues and anger. i think it was due to Drarayne being a female name, but wasn't a bug. many upset.

I think it would be a better idea to modify the name in this case than to change the gender. I'm curious what LGNPC did/will do with the character

The Twin Lamps entry:

You do not know? %Name was sure... But you should be a member. If %Name asks, "Have you seen the Twin Lamps?" You say, "They light the way to freedom."

should have the Race: Khajiit condition. (there's another entry below that one for non-Khajiit)

edit: also whatever reason made the Pilgrim's Path book unpickable, as I've seen people describe it, sounds like a bug more than a feasibility problem. Probably forgot an Activate in the script?

Not a bug, but there are 2 dialogues about Councilor Sarethi accepting you. Both are set 2 30 Disposition even though one should be 70 disp (as per the comment in the results box). So the actual 30 disp dialogue would not be seen because the other precedes it. Also, this is a vanilla issue, not the patch. But I thought I'd throw it here since it is a small, quick fix :)
